Hi guys. I'm wanting to make bento lunches for college and I want them to be healthy. My family doesn't have much money to buy many foods like fresh produce but I try my best with frozen vegetables and some other produce.
Anyways, I found this bento set I'm interested in but I was wondering if it would hold enough?

I'm 5'9 and overweight (Trying to lose weight.) Don't do much physical activity except walking around campus a lot (Which is huge)
Well, this bento set is 510ml and was wondering if that should be enough for me. I might be losing weight but I don't want to starve myself.
Also, can anyone tell me about the flavor of rice balls? I tried making them and there was no flavor to the rice and the middle was a pickle filling. I made a bento (In one of our regular plastic containers) and when I took a bite of the riceball, it tasted TERRIBLE. I look at all of these rice balls that you can make and it makes me sad because they look good although the one I had was terrible. Although it wasn't neatly packed/squeezed in there(Was kind of rolling around in the container in my backpack), so could that be a problem? Is there anything I can add to a riceball that gives it a really good flavor? I haven't tried nori yet...
Anyone have easy starter recipes?

Frozen is fine. Have you checked out the starter thread? There are lots of answers in there alone! 600 ml may not really be enough, but there is information to help you judge. It's a cute set to say the least! For the best onigiri suggestions, look no further than here! I'm sure that will help. Did you use rice wine vingar? Also, you could make "drunken" rice, it's actually rather simple, you can find the recipe here.

In general fruits and vegetables take for your body to digest. Even if they are frozen, and a good way to regulate how much protein you have, think about the size of a deck of cards. Also 1/2 cup is a good amount of carbs/ filler.
I was for along time looking to lose weight. A good think to is try to stay away from high fructose corn syrup as much as possible. Make yourself some tea, it's best if you can make it fresh from lose-leaf, if not putting some lemon or cucumber in water is nice and adds just a hit of taste.

SOOOOO LAAATE. ><;;;
that said, i also happen to be a college student making bentos for lunch! >:3 (wednesdays i even pack extra for my friends.)
if you're worried about rice balls, consider the type of rice you're using, since the typical white rice you find in the grocery store is usually too long to stick together nicely. (also, the nori is only on the rice ball so you can hold it while you eat. it's likely people eat it, but it's not a requirement.) as for rice vinegar, that would depend on your taste. it's used in sushi as a seasoning, but as far as i know it doesn't affect the stickiness at all. personally, i hate the taste (i actually can't eat sushi because the vinegar makes me sick), but that's for you to decide as to what to put in your rice ball. you might consider jam or fruit as a seasoning, if you don't want umeboshi in it.
as for quick and easy things, GET A DUMPLING FOLDER. i'm serious, they're awesome and easy, and you can freeze the resulting dumplings and they keep for like, EVER. just be aware of the fillings and be careful of the way you cook them (i fry them, but since you're trying to cut pounds you might want to consider a different method, such as steaming or baking.)
always remember moderation. don't put too many sweets in there, but also don't put too much rice in there. you should be more concerned with being healthy than thin, in my opinion. ;3
i hope you have access to a microwave on campus, since that gives you alot more options than if you don't. :[
