Has anyone else experimented with their rice? By playing around with flavors and colors you can add a little something extra to your bento box. So if you have and you want to share them feel free to do so here. heart

Okay so I'll go first. Allright, keep in mind my rice cooker fits two cups rice and 3 cups liquid.
My favorite is what I call "drunken rice." You will need:
2 cups white rice 2 cups water 1 cup mirin
The end result is a darker colored rice with a sweet taste, it's also very sticky. You can also use sake but it won't be as sweet or dark.

I can't remember where, but I remember someone flavoring their rice with carrots and making orange rice! Going along the same line, I think a nice citrus rice is always tasty, like pineapple or actual orange or lemon rice!

Sir3n Song Yuki Akina Sir3n Song I can't remember where, but I remember someone flavoring their rice with carrots and making orange rice! Going along the same line, I think a nice citrus rice is always tasty, like pineapple or actual orange or lemon rice! That sounds interesting, do you have the recipe? I'd like to try it. Well I don't really have a recipe... hmm for the pineapple rice I know my friend used basmati rice (tho I don't think specific rice matters) and I swear there was a touch of nutmeg or cinnamon. It was very nice and complimentary! For the orange or lemon rice, I was just reminiscing about leftover Chinese food, when you order lemon or orange chicken and you have leftover glaze to put on the rice 3nodding I'd imagine just making a citrus glaze (or going out to the store for some) and mixing it in with your rice would be sufficient. Maybe some sesame seeds or something... man, now I want to order take out. The best culinary innovations started out as experiments cool Hmm, I'll have to experiment a bit.
