Friskit_Geeba The Easypeasy Tea egg! For those who want a lil flavor what you're going to need One egg, freshly hardboiled shell optional (read variation at the end of recipe) 3/4 of a cup hot water One sturdy glass jar with fitting lid, an 8 oz jar is good. one tsp soy sauce 1 tbsp of your black tea of choice (chai, berry, mint, cinnamon...what havya) 1 Mix the hot water, tea and soy sauce in the jar and allow to steep. 2 Carefully place your egg sans shell into the mixture 3 Screw on Jar lid and set jar into fridge to sit overnight 4 Next morning take out delicious egg which has absorbed the flavors of the tea and turned a lovely dark color. Variations: Leave the shell one the egg, but crack it all around to give it a marbelized pattern for when it goes into your bento! Leave the egg in longer for a stronger flavor. Examples: Example without shellMarbelized effect

This looks really interesting! I'm looking into sort of rekindling my interest in bentos this summer. What sort of flavour does the tea add to the egg?

the eggs absorb the flavors of whatever tea you use
chai gives you a mildly spicy flavor earl grey gives a flavor like that of the bergamont and herbs trader joes black mango tea gives the eggs a fruit mango flavor.

Has anyone tried this yet? I tried a different way of making tea eggs once and the tea only colored the surface and not the inside. Fail. I'm wondering if this recipe will work better, but the photos look very blotchy and questionable. How can I obtain a perfectly colored tea egg, inside and out?? D:

Hmm I personally have not tried this recipe, but if its simply a matter of soaking it in tea over night, then as far as color goes shouldn't it come out fine as long as it was fully submerged?
I like the marbled ones myself, so I want to try doing that one mrgreen
