With the first Creation came the stars, moons, and planets. Each was composed of and brought to "life" by a set of elements. In the beginning, the universe itself contained such elements as Chaos and Life. This world was made up of Earth (or Metal), Wind, Fire, Water... Each had its own properties that made it want to interact with the others -- by mixing or conflicting with them It gave rise to still more elements - Electricity, Light, Dark, Spirit, and so on.

With the coming of living things in this world came spirits with the ability to control different elements. These guardians of the elements had a special form that seemed to be a mixture of those living things around them. They were often anthropomorphic creatures, taking on the form of something halfway between animal and human. They lived in relative harmony with the animals and plants around them, since they were like forces of Nature itself, though it is only natural for living things to conflict. But as time passed, the world came into control of one species over the others: humans. And in the presence of humans, it became necessary for the Anthropomorphs to blend in, or they would be ridiculed, persecuted, and even hunted, just because they were different.

In the history of man, enough time passed that the presence of Anthropomorphs faded from memory to become a myth. Guardians of the elements continued to live amongst all living things, including the humans, but even they began to forget their beginnings. They went on with their lives like anyone else does, rearing the new generations by passing on their instincts and ever-fading knowledge. And to this day, most simply strive to fit in, holding in that wonderful yet dangerous secret - that they are not human, but spirits caught between humanity and nature.
