My World Called: Uchawi Significance: Swahili for 'poison' Shortened: No one should dare Gender: Female Birthed: Hyena Years: Many
Clan: Chumu Rank: Queen
Characteristics: She has a black body, mottled by the silver spots found throughout her coat. Her tail is streaked in silver, her ears are highlighted by it, her nose is a mottled mix of silver and black. Her pads are also silver, as is her mane. Her most discerning mark are the green-yellow markings around her face, much in the same fashion as a cheetah's own tear tracks. Her nails and eyes as well are tainted by the same coloration. Her muzzle and some of her face are covered in scars from previous fights, and her ear is nicked as well. Personality: Self-sufficient, brash, unemotional, protective, and fierce are perhaps the easiest words to describe Uchawi. She wants what is best for her family - or at least what she believes that to be - at all times. She is the sort of queen that listens to no one but herself, and enforces her expectations with her own teeth as opposed to her words. Regardless of this, she has a few tricks up her sleeve from her days as a nomad that may keep her family together and in better shape than some. Expectations: The top of the lot as far as she's concerned, Uchawi now looks to taking the best care of her family as is possible. One day, she wants pups of her own again, but for now she wants her clan to thrive under her rule.
Her Clan's Significance Teska - This adolescent, though she tends to be jumpy, is kind-hearted and seems to learn things quickly. She will either make a wonderful addition to the clan when she is older, or will have to be chased out or killed for her own tendency to attack when she's placed on edge or in an uncomfortable situation. Kanoni - A ladyship with a keen sense of her place within the clan, Kanoni's downfall is the way in which she trusts everyone - including those from the outside. Her kindness may work well with the pups, but if she were ever to be placed in a trying situation it could be the end of her. Mosifuto - He's quiet. And stays out of the way. Good for him. Iah - Even quieter than Mosifuto. But he does give them impression of being a little too lazy. Cusith - His edginess makes Uchawi wary. Like Teska, he is one to watch and perhaps be forced to leave later. On the up side, he is a squire, and has the possibility of breeding within the clan.
Those She's Encountered Outside Her Clan Mvyma - This younger adult nomad was someone that Uchawi met before Chumu was whole again. She had come from deep inside the deadzone, and her fur was coated in blood. Although she was taken aback by her appearance and curious attitude, Uchawi learned that Mvyma was much in the state of mind of a young adolescent - confused about her own reasons for existence it seemed.
Her Take on Those from the Past Perhaps another day.

The Tracks I've Left She had settled once before, on the banks of a poisoned river to whelp the litter of four that she called her own. She had called her loose family of passers-by Chumu, a phrase that was common in the area. Chumu, my friend. Good hunting on your travels. Good luck. Live. Be strong. Survive. It was all the welcome a nomad was to expect from another. But chumu, to them, also meant something deeper; watch your back, be careful, be cautious, be safe. There are rogues, there are clouds of death, there are lands of death beyond these borders. So Chumu became the area of safety. Simply a place to say good luck and goodbye.
But when the first pup fell into the purple river - the place of Bad Water - and came out frothing from the mouth like the crazed rogues, Chumu was no longer with them. Uchawi did what she had to do. She killed the fourth with her own set of jaws and cast the body back into the Bad Water. Don't drink that water. Don't ever drink that water, she'd told the three that were left. They obeyed her words as law. Slowly, however, their sources of food ran low. And as she was forced to hunt farther and farther away, the rivalry between the pups grew. Before she could stop anything from happening, all three of her pups were gone.
Dazed from her loss, the female had moved to chasing her source of food - the herds that grazed the wastelands. She stayed on their heels for months on end, switching herds after she'd caught a better scent. She slept when they slept, lounged when they grazed. She wouldn't admit her own heartache to herself, let alone anyone she passed. During her wandering time, the scars on her grew in number and the memories of her first litter faded to little more than nothing. And slowly her mind turned back to the possibility of having cubs again.
She knew first and foremost that she needed a clan and a better location. The tainted water was far too dangerous to raise pups around. And then her nose, tilted to the sky, caught wind of that word again. Chumu... The old tongue meaning buried deep within her own heart. Even if it took her years, she knew she'd manage it somehow and have cubs of her own again. And this time, they would live.
