This wasteland. This terrain. This slight dip in the landscape. She knew this place, this place was hers, had been hers, and would always be hers. The great queen was running, light colored pads and tainted nails digging into the earth that was hers as she ran her own border patrols. Something so mundane, so typical of clan lifestyle which she was doing for the first time having decided to finally start again.
She would keep Chumu with her. It was in her heart - far from an immobile chunk of waste. And so this new land that she had, its new hyenas she would call her own, would be Chumu as those nomads had been.
Her mouth was agape, gulping down the scents that were surrounding her, being forced down her windpipe from her own speed. She hadn't full-out run like this for a long while, not since she'd decided to leave her old Chumu behind in search of a better one. Not since she'd...
She tossed her head back as she ran, cackling as her mane went this way and that.

It was her first time out of the land of purple water for what felt like ages now. The multicolored female ran free, her fur flew free... well, most of it. Blood spots clumped her fur together, and it made her laugh.
The nomad slowed down, lifting her head to look about. Open territory, no buzzards even clogging up her skies. What if this was clan land? Oh well. They wouldn't hurt her, she was fairly sure. Mvyma picked her speed back up, head lifted high as she took in scents that she hadn't sensed since her puphood.
The large female finally began to slow, finally ending with a stop. Her shoulers lifted and dipped as she panted, pink eyes searching the landscape again... and spotting something weird.

She came to an ungraceful, abrupt halt, regaining her compuse as soon as her feet were realigned under her properly. Something was amiss. Her ears were erect, swiveling slightly from side to side. Her open mouth gulped down air, but not exactly for starved lungs. Something in the air, a strange yet familiar scent, had crossed in front of her and now she searched for its source.
Satisfied that it wasn't in front of her, she turned her head to one side and then the other, scanning the landscape and then the horizon. It was then that she spotted what she had smelled - a speck in the distance, too closely hyena-shaped to be left uninvestigated. She pawed the ground a bit in indecision before throwing her head back for another cackle.
Cautious, for she knew nomads and rogues were just a thought from each other, the self-proclaimed queen of hyena-less Chumu moved forward. She kept her head up, her ears pricked forward in interest. Until she knew for certain, she was going to keep her anger in check. The figure could just as easily belong to a clan hyena, and that spelled trouble.

She wasn't imagining things, there was something out there. The nomad tilted her head to the side, pink eyes squinting to try and make clear the oncoming being. Ah, well. She couldn't have everything she wanted just handed to her, now could she?
The brightly colored female turned, heading slowly towards the thing headed her way. She gave a small smile when she recognized it to be a hyena, speeding up along the way. Mvyma did not fear another hyena, unles there were others to back it up. In any case, this one appeared to be alone.

Uchawi growled softly to herself as the figure began to move towards her as well. It certainly had to be a hyena as no prey would ever approach a predator willingly. And this one's movements looked too deliberate to be accident.
Her mind raced with the possibilities. A rogue, an interested nomad, or a clan hyena heading an investigation? It was too hard to tell from this distance, and perhaps the distance was closing a little too fast. As she covered the ground, keeping her head and ears up, her tail slipped into a high position over her back and she puffed her chest up slightly to look a little bigger, a little more intimidating. She knew how to survive out here, as she'd managed for the past years.
She gave another cackling call to the approaching hyena as she herself neared, a mix between a territory claim, a warning, and a greeting. She was healthy, this was hers and she wasnt going to let someone take it from her, but she would accept subordinance to her rule.

At the call of the other, Mvyma wanted to laugh. She was not intimidated as the hyena seemed to grow larger. She halted, letting the other cover the rest of the distance. She grinned, showing off impressive teeth. "Hail." She said quietly, sitting down to show she would not be moving.

She approached with caution, yet without hesitation or true fear. Unlike the intruder, she did not settle herself into a sitting position once she had come within easy talking distance, but instead remained standing. "What do you seek here, nomad?" Her voice was well-worn, the tone scratchy yet deep.
"These lands are Chumu, and you do not look the part of one seeking acceptance." Covered in dried blood that made her nose wrinkle, Mvyma did not look the part of even a nomad. But she was not acting like a rogue, so Uchawi did not assume that far.

"These lands do not bear the scent of a clan. Even if so, the scent is so weak that they have not been around since my ancestors. I'm afraid you missed the Chumu by a few years. As to me, I seek no more than something different beyond my homelands." Mvyma looked out across the wastelands, sighing.
Her eyes turned back to the odd hyena, but then again, who was she to call anyone odd? She, of the bright pelt, who lived happily in the dying lands. "Is it bothering you that I'm here?"

Her nose crinkled in distaste at the comment about her clan, but she kept a conscious effort to not raise her lips back to reveal her fangs. "Chumu is older than you are, and it is very much alive." As she spoke, she sat down, tail still curled a bit over her back. Certainly on some level she was offended, but at the same time this intruder was looking less and less of a threat to her.
"Why should I be bothered?" She tilted her head to the side a bit as she asked the question, ears still pricked forward and listening intently.

"Oh? I do not see a queen before my eyes, nor any other clan hyenas. If Chumu is alive, it lives on with the spirits of the dead and little else." The nomad leaned, looking behind the other as if there might be a whole clan hiding behind her.
"You seem like a hyena easily bothered, not that I know much. My contact with our species has been... limited, I admit."

It was then that her lips finally curled back from her teeth, the corners of her mouth lifting in a near-malicious spin on a grin. Oh how wrong this wanderer was in so many regards. Her tail curled up even further in a quiet show of dominance, but through this Uchawi remained seated and overall appeared to be relaxed.
She didn't voice her opinions, but kept them sealed inside. Her appearance and change in posture was enough to speak for her to most.

She tilted her head to the side as her gaze return to the other female, noticing the changes without any alarm showing on her face. Mvyma noted that she had been right to some extent. "Did I say something wrong?"

Regaining her control, Uchawi shook out her mane and rose to her feet. Her lips fell back into a more relaxed position, and her tail settled as well. "Do not think on it. But tell me - what is it that you are here for?" She inclined her head slightly in question, her torn ear canting to the side to express her interest in the other's answer.
"You are healthy and young. There is no cause for you to continue to be a nomad when you could easily find a home with a clan. Likewise, you certainly seem to not be lacking any source of food."

The nomad looked in the general direction of her homeland. "I am here to get away from my home for a while. I was thinking to maybe meet more of my species than the one that I've met." Mvyma was fond of her home, the dying land where few dare tread. "I had not thought of joining a clan. For some odd reason, it just doesn't appeal."
"Why you? Why do you seek to be part of a clan?"
