1. Intro 2. Setting 3. Rules 4. Character Skeleton 5. Recent developments 6. Announcements It was a mass awakening. It was a simultaneous birth of thousands. They were new to the world. Innocent creatures with unholy appearances. The winged shunned them. The flawed hated them. They were that of nightmares, filled with dreams.
Seeing the hate, and afraid of what it would bring, the unholy creatures built a wall. Secluding themselves, they learned to live as the angels and people did. The city aged, as did the people, and the hatred of mothers and fathers turned into the curiosity of children. The winged, ageless and knowing, warned the children from the demons.
Hate festered once again, as did fear; and the children learned to stay away from the demon's city. As fearful and hateful as they were, curiosity never left them. Wanting to lay eyes on these forbidden creatures, a wall could not stop them. They found ancient tunnels, where trains had once ran, and knew they had found an entrance to the forbidden city.Profiles//// OOC

1.Intro 2. Setting 3. Rules 4. Character Skeleton 5. Recent developments 6. Announcements 2093 Welcome to Essence It is more often called the City of Angels. At the beginning of the century, winged beings dropped from the sky like falling stars. When the people of the city found these unnaturally beautiful creatures, unscathed and pure, they began to treat them as saviors, though no one could say from what. The angels, having no memory of their existence before falling into Essence, quickly adopted the roles they had been given. They felt it their duty to offer protection and guidance to those who needed it, and for years, the city was filled with renewed hope. Three years passed. The city began to be known as the Blessed City. The City of God. The City of Angels. And then something happened. No one was quite sure what, but many described it as a second falling of the stars.
This time, however, it wasn't the stars that fell from the sky, but the darkness around them.
People flocked to the fallen creatures, expecting wings. Expecting beauty. What they saw instead, was horror. Unholy things with inhuman eyes and horns sprouting from their heads. Some did have wings, it was true, but they were not the pure, feathered wings the people had grown to love. Some had tails, some had claws, and as they rose from the ground, gasping in pain, the people drew back in fright. Angels hated them, and that was enough. The demons were harassed, insulted, avoided. The people begged the angels to rid the city of these creatures, and as the pure, winged beings began to consider it, the demons realized the only way for them to live in peace would be to live secluded from humans and angels alike. And so they built a wall. It circled just a section of the city, where the demons said they could not burden the ones who hated them. Years passed, and the people of Essence kept their eyes to the sky, hoping that the worst had passed. No one ever saw the demons, and they were only mentioned with disgust and disdain. Still, the years went by. People died, people were born. Angels remained unchanged, ageless and beautiful. The century came closer to it's end.
Now, at the end of the century, children are warned away from the walls of the Demon's City. Still... There are those who are curious, no matter what kind of nightmarish stories are shared with them. Some have found, that if you stand close to the thick walls, you can hear the sound of laughter and life on the other side. It is a well known fact that there are old subways running through the earth below the city. Some children and teenagers whisper that a certain route leads into the Demon's City itself. Though the angels say these are horrid, bloodthirsty creatures, there are some young men and women who have been exploring these underground tunnels. Some have been planning for months- others have decided to try their luck and stick to instinct. Whatever the case, the goal to them is clear- they want to see the Demon City, and more specifically, the nightmare creatures who live inside. Some have brought mediocre weapons, in case the stories of these bloodthirsty monsters are really true- others have brought journals, hoping to record everything they see and hear.
And then, for those few tortured souls- what lies on the other side of that wall may be a paradise compared to the hell they have been living in all along.

1. Intro 2. Setting 3. Rules 4. Character Skeleton 5. Recent developments 6. AnnouncementsRules
Behavior Obey Gaia's ToS and the guild rules. If you don't like something, tell me and we'll fix it. If you don't follow the rules you'll be removed. Absolutely no flaming or bullying. Na ah, not even a little bit. Don't create more characters than you can handle. If you have to leave of any reason, post it on the OOC.
Profiles Do not change the profile code. It's there for a reason. Keep Mary-Sues to a minimum. Other people have to put up with your character too. PM your finished profile to me. When it is accepted you may post it to the Profile Thread. No drastic changes, no substantial life/personality changes without sound reason or explanation. Post what you have changed on the OOC. By PMing me your profile you acknowledge that you have read the rules and will follow the ToS. Also Angels can’t magically hide their wings, just like a demon can’t magically hide their horns. They could cover them up, under a jacket or outerwear, just like a demon could wear a hat or a hood.
Posting I don't really care if you swear so long as it's in character and within the Gaia ToS. No cybering. Romance is cool so long as it doesn't choke the thread to death. If you must include something, timeskip or fade to grey. I do not want to see it. Got it? No godmoding, autohitting, autoblocking or puppeteering. It's up to your creative genius how fancy your post styles get but don't stretch the page. Please post at least twice a week. Don't leave people in post lock.
Literacy This is a literate thread. Make sure your sentences and paragraphs are legible. I won't grill you but please make an effort. The same goes for length. Please try to write at least two, well structured paragraphs. Absolutely no one liners.
Setting While this setting does take place in the distant future, keep tech advancements reasonable. Nothing outrageous please.
I reserve the right to change the rules but I will notify everyone on the OOC if I do.

1. Intro 2. Setting 3. Rules 4. Character Skeleton 5. Recent developments 6. AnnouncementsHumans The original citizens of Essence. There are very few left who remember what the demons look like, and none who can remember when the angels fell. Though there are pictures and videos of the Angel's Falling, it seems as though the demons have been utterly erased from existence. The only humans now interested in the demons are young men and women whose curiosity or other motives have led them to search for an entrance into the Demon's City via the underground tunnels and subways.
Angels Arrived near the beginning of the century. None of them remember why or how they descended to Earth, but they all treat essence as their home. The angels are ageless, and have no children- because of this, they all remember the demons, and how much the creatures disgust them. Not all of the angels still feel this way, but none of them will say otherwise. Curiously some angels can’t help but wonder where this disgust has come from, was it always in born or maybe their time on Earth has started to affect them. Every angel has a pair of wings- and they all have an unnatural beauty that seems to make them glow.
Demons The demons live in a large section of the city surrounded by a massive wall. Life here isn't so much different from that of the humans and angels. Most demons have jobs keeping their city running efficiently. Demons live about as long as humans, and unlike angels, can bear children. Because of this, some demons are curious about the city outside their own. Their appearance is slightly more varied than that of the Angels, but all demons have at least horns of some sort. 1.Intro 2. Setting 3. Rules 4. Character Skeleton 5. Recent developments 6. AnnouncementsRecent Developments Not everything has been paradise for the city of Essence. For the longest time the humans, tried their best to keep their darker intentions and habits in shadow, believing that they’d appear unless…”worthy” in their Angels’ eyes. However it eventually came to light and the humans were surprised, by the angels’ reaction. They seemed to be rather indifferent; though they did help the authorities catch the person who broke the law. Because of the angels’ help, crime on the human side has pretty much disappeared. The same could be said for the daemons as well, considering their numbers, but something menacing has been brewing recently.
For example, a potential serial killer is loose within the human city, and while the authorities have done their best on keeping it under wraps…some of the papers have gotten word of the hateful things carved into the victims, leading several papers to believe it was the work of demons. The humans have enlisted the help of the angels once again, though some are a little surprised by what the papers have started. Unlike the humans who have a small memory, the angels don’t. They remember the last time a murderer was loose, and they also remember how it was a human.
Curiously, and unbeknownst to the human side of Essence, the daemons have experienced several recent murders themselves…though their murders are much darker. For all that they’ve witnessed, murder was never something they got a firm grasp of. Theft was understandable since everyone on the daemon side went through rough times as the wall went up, but never murder…and the messages carved into the crime scene paint the perpetrator as humans. The most well known piece of evidence was the sentence; “Go back to hell!!”

╔═══▫▪═══ Abon ✦ Ixodon------------------------------------ ◄ Ixodon sighed to himself as he walked down the street toward his first lead. Sure he'd much rather be thinking about retirement plans, and what he could possibly do around the city in his spare time. Well there was the obvious, hitting clubs, bars, spending time with...what little friends he had in an attempt to feel young again. But that never really caused any worry in him, since he didn't keep many friends and he never really went through a mid life crisis like many of the other demons his age have.
Maybe it had something to do with the rather lethal nature of his job...especially when it comes to humans. They, well the more criminal of their kind, seem to have a disregard for life in general that just appalled the older demon. It always caused the weirdest faces on potential employers when he declined a job involving murder. A soft chuckle escaped his lips as he walked up to the home of one...Vesper Len Hazsarath.
Gently rapping his hand against the door, Ixodon waited patiently for the door to open up...but after about a minute or so, it seemed as if the resident didn't hear it. Pulling out his phone, Ixodon became reassured of the time, and decided to try the doorbell instead. After the little buzz was done with, Ixodon was about to wait patiently for resident, when the door opened up to reveal a lad with cat eyes. While he might not of said any words, his body language was definitely expressing his slight curiosity.
"Mr. Hazsarath? May I come in, there's a certain matter that requires...an investigation." That seemed to grab the lad's attention, who welcomed the old bounty hunter into his home. Once inside the lad's foyer, with the door closed of course, Ixodon pulled out a little golden key "I am sure you know what this is, Mr.Hazsarath. As you can tell, I don't. Though I am quite curious to learn about this key's function...perhaps you can inform me." ► ═══▪▫═══╝

Vesper Len HazsarathAnd in childhood and manhood the clock seemed to know, and to share both his grief and his joy. Vesper was sitting at his work bench with a magnifying monocle over one eye and a jeweller's screwdriver in his hand. He was studying the workings of a newly made egg. He didn't like the louder-than-usual ticking noise that it emitted as it played a blank recording. He guessed that one of the wheels wasn't in line with another but he couldn't see where. He had pulled the workings of the egg apart piece by piece, sanded and polished each cog a second time before putting it back together but still it ticked. He'd even gone back to the design map to see if he could spot the flaw but to no avail. This egg was just a puzzle, one that would fascinate, excite and frustrate him until he'd succeeded in solving it.
On a mantelpiece on a wall in another room, a little robin redbreast began to sing.
Vesper stopped what he was doing to listen to the clock's sweet music. He placed the egg on a cork ring and followed the clock's summons. It was time to put the kettle on and listen to the wonderful whistling noise of the water boiling.
Amongst the sound of steam whistling through the kettle's spout, there was the sound of knocking. Vesper walked to the door, running through his mind for any appointment he might have missed. He couldn't think of any but that meant naught. When Vesper got caught on a puzzle such as the egg he had been working on, he often forgot about time. Many times he had paid no heed to the time and ended up not attending important appointments with clients. Then again, importance was relative. Nothing was more important to Vesper than his magmun opera, the eggs.
Vesper opened the door to reveal Abon Ixodon. He inclined his head to the man in greeting and listened silently, curiously to the man's explanation. Such a visit was far from usual to Vesper, who rarely saw the sons and daughters of his own parents. At the man's request, Vesper bowed low and welcomed the man into his house then silently offered to take his coat. He led the man into the only room in his house that was well furnished: the drawing room. All other rooms were still in the process of being furnished.
There was only enough seating for four people, which was made up of two recliners and a two-seater. All three were of understated fashions long out of style yet they seemed to fit together in a mismatched sort of way. Between the three couches was a dark stained coffee table, which Vesper had made himself. Upon the wall there was a painting of a wizened man, the previous occupant of Vesper's home, and below that was the mantle that held Vesper's beloved clock. Everything in this room and all the others was either second-hand or made by Vesper himself. He had been lucky enough to inherit his lodgings but when he had first moved in, he had not the money or furnishings to do anything with it. Each piece in his house was a reflection of him. Each piece had been chosen or made by him over the few years he had resided there. Each piece was exactly where and what he wanted.
When Mister Ixodon revealed a key, Vesper raised an eyebrow and bent forward slightly to study the key. He tucked his long fringe behind his ear and studied it with both his monocled and un-monocled eyes, exactly as he would have done when the key was newly made. He knew exactly which key he was looking at and could already picture where and what its partner looked like. He knew exactly why Mister Ixodon was here and what was likely to happen next.
'Please, make yourself comfortable,' Vesper said as he extended an arm. 'I was about to have a pot of tea, would you care to join me?'
The demon finally realised he was still wearing his monocle, which no would would have been making right eye look much bigger than it really was. The big, gold eye must have looked quite strange, especially considering that his other eye was hidden behind a long, slanted fringe. While he was waiting for Mister Ixodon's response, Vesper blew on the little brass-alloy contraption to make sure there was no dust on it. It glinted a little and he could see the creator's engraving on the side of the arm. He folded the monocle and tucked it away its leather casing. The eyepiece had cost him a pretty penny and a great deal for him to find so he didn't want it to get damaged in any way.

Edward ruffled his wings as the breeze blew through his feathers gently. For any other angel it would have been a comforting feeling, but somehow he was always able to find the worst in any situation, "It's cold up here."
"It's not that bad- I think it's kind of nice." A gentle voice responded. The man glanced at the winged woman next to him with a obvious expression of annoyance, "You think everything is nice. I guess I would too if I didn't have to worry about anything but my next photo shoot." Evelyn gave him a small smile, and responded quietly, "You're right, Ed. I'm frivolous and conceited. I don't give a damn about anyone other than myself."
"Hey- that's not what I-"
His sister just giggled slightly, and gave him a light push, which to anyone else might have been terrifying, since they were sitting on the roof of a four-story building, "You need to lighten up. I enjoy myself because- let's face it- we're not going anywhere any time soon. Sure, I could spend fifty years holding a grudge against the world, but there's not any fun in that."
"Is this supposed to be cheering me up?"
"I'm just saying.. Maybe you could try to enjoy life a little? It's not all ba-" Unfortunately, Evelyn's voice was interrupted by a woman's scream, and before the winged girl could stop her brother, he was diving off of the roof. Her words were forgotten now, and as her brother spread his wings and glided toward the source of the scream, Evelyn let out a sigh before following- somewhat reluctantly. She didn't want to get involved, but at least she could keep her brother from doing something stupid.
Edward, of course, had found the distressed woman immediately. A man with a sharp knife had her cornered against a wall, and although she was no longer screaming, the fear was evident in her expression as she handed over her purse and jewelry. With that familiar chill of hatred working it's way up the angel's spine, he landed behind the man, and grabbed him by the back of the collar. Before the thief had any real time to react, Edward flung him roughly against the opposite wall, and the man willingly dropped his knife, "L-Look man, I don't want any trouble, I wasn't gonna hurt anybo-"
The thief gasped for air as the angel's fist met his stomach, "You could've fooled me." Grabbing the woman's belongings as the thief tried to catch his breath, he handed them back to her, and she muttered a terrified thanks before scurrying out of the alleyway with tears in her eyes. With a dark glare, the angel dragged the man off of his knees and slammed him against the alleyway wall once more, "P-please.. I'm.. I'm sorry, okay?"
"You're sorry? Oh, well that's all that matters, then." A familiar voice muttered a protest behind him, but he ignored his sister, too focused on how much he would have liked to beat the man's face in, "Suppose she had resisted, and just suppose you had, I don't know... Cut her throat?"
"Edwar-"
"Well that'd just be dandy, wouldn't it? Because you'd be sorry. No harm done, right?!" This was accompanied by a rough blow to the man's face, and as he raised his arms to protect himself from further harm, a gentle hand gripped Edward's shoulder and stopped him from punching the man again, "Ed, come on- you stopped him before he hurt anyone. Isn't that enough?"
The angel was gritting his teeth, knowing what he wanted to say wasn't what his sister wanted to hear. After a tense moment, he decided to speak his mind,"No, he's just going to do the same thing to someone else."
"I seriously doubt that. Even if it were true, is beating him to a pulp going to fix that?"
"What would you know about it?!"
Evelyn was silent this time, and if Edward had turned around, he might have seen the hurt look on her face. Instead, he considered the silence reassurance that he was right, and looked back to the man, who was now trying to cover a split lip, "Bet that hurts. But at least it's not a knife in the gut, hmm?" If that was supposed to comfort the man, it didn't work. Instead his eyes widened in fear, and he began struggling against the angel's arm, which was pinning him firmly against the wall.

╔═══▫▪═══ Abon ✦ Ixodon------------------------------------ ◄ Abon was more than a little surprised when such a young fellow answered the door, but like anyone his age, he has more then learned to keep a straight face and slowly walked inside once he was allowed in. Ixodon was never really one to give up his things, something relating to a childhood incident that he never got over caused him to politely decline the young lad's offer of taking his coat. Besides it was a rather brisk walk to his house, and he much preferred to be warmed up by the coat than some heaters as he followed Vesper to the boy's living room. Where he promptly pulled out a key that was found amongst Sabael Arsal's belongings, and showed it to Vesper.
He was a little surprised that the lad didn't need any prompting, but the surprise turned into a small amount of satisfaction. Vesper not needing any prompt, meant that this lead wasn't quite dead and it was a solid step in the next direction. Though he didn't like how the next thing out of the boy's mouth was an offer to make himself at home, and whether he wanted some tea from the...kettle that sounded as if it was ready. "Thank you but no tea for me, Mr. Hazsarath."
Ixodon said coolly as he took a seat in one of the recliners, while Vesper busied himself with his jeweler's eyepiece-like... eyepiece before pacing off into his kitchen. Possibly to get his little cup of tea, which caused Ixodon to look around the room. Trying to find something to keep his interest while his quiet host attended to the task. It wasn't long before his eyes fell upon a tabloid of sorts, that was probably used as an impromptu coaster for the dark stained coffee table. Sighing to himself, and realizing that he already read it, Abon snatched up the tabloid and opened it up to the page that dealt with the very recent murder of Sabael Arsal and her son. It was such a horrible thing to see a young mother's death, especially considering the circumstances surrounding it. Unknown to the tabloids and most of the public, it seemed as if she died defending her son. A noble endeavor, shame about what happened to her son...which just sent shivers down Abon's spine whenever he thought about it.
However, before he could reach that part in the tabloid, he heard the quiet shuffling of his host's feet before the tinking of Vesper's cup of tea against it's matching saucer. Once folded up tabloid placed on the table, and Abon was back at looking Vesper in the eye. "You have heard the news regarding Ms. Arsal and her little boy Baos, correct? Sure, everyone knows since it has been more than a day since the murders." Which was entirely true, it had been two days, though Ixodon was still curious about how the tabloids received knowledge of the message carved into the wall. "Well I am here following up a lead given to me by our police force, since they want to check every possible lead...not just the obvious one. So if you don't mind, I'd like to ask you a few questions."
Abon hoped his tone was portraying neutrality, from what he remembered the last time someone commented on it, he seemed to imbue undercurrents of authority into his voice. While generally a good thing, he didn't really want to do it around Khedazas' nephew for two reasons. One was because the lad wasn't really a suspect, and the other a more trivial reason since him and Khedazas still got together for drinks on occasion. "...Let's start with something simple. What do you know of Ms. Arsal and why might she have a key that you seem familiar with."
((Oh god, I hope he doesn't come across as a bit...demanding and forceful.}}► ═══▪▫═══╝

Lastly Herr Lastly flicked her lighter several times until it flared before the cigarette that was clutched between her lips and ignited it. After a drag she held the cigarette between her index and middle finger and passed a Mom-n-Pop diner which wafted fumes of grilling steaks and frying potatoes. Her stomach promptly grumbled in hunger. She checked out of habit, and partly out of hope, but her wallet was as empty as ever save a picture of her old highschool sweetheart she couldn't bear to throw away and a receipt for the cigarettes she'd bought a week ago. Broke. Broke because of her habits, lifestyle, and vices.
She raked a hand threw her short cut hair and glanced around the street. She hadn't pick-pocketed in a while, but she figured it had to be like riding a bike. She just had to find an oblivious target. Leaning against the wall of the diner she finished off her cigarette in several drags when just the perfect candidate walked by. He just walked like money, the kind you had and could get more of easily. Walking towards her, and at a pretty quick pace, so she had to make up her mind, and make it up fast. She flicked the butt of the cigarette and began stumbling toward the man's oncoming gait, as if she were drunk (part acting, part truth). He past her. Bam. Her knees gave out and she fell into his side.
"Oh! I'm sorry!" she giggled tipsily. "I think I mighta had just a liiiiitle too much to drink," she giggled again, slurring her words artfully before flashing the man a helpless grin and ambling off again, praying all the while he wouldn't notice the missing wallet until he was tucked away all cozy.

Niccolo ---------------------------------- ◄"Yes, Nixie..." Niccolo said as an exasperated sigh escaped his lips while he rounded a corner two blocks away from his and Nixie's apartment complex. "Yes... Nixie, I'm pretty sure I got the stuffed animal, little Anna wanted. Now get off my back, unless you want to continue this recourse of you being a naughty girl." That caused a series of stammers on the line that caused a coy smirk to appear on the man's features. Nixie knew exactly what Niccolo meant whenever he called her a naughty girl. "Don't you forget about our deal, Nixie. I'll be home in about ten minutes and it should be there in five."
Niccolo chuckled to himself as he imagined a flustered young woman half shouting, half-stammering into her phone in a poor attempt to save face. Ah Nixie could be quite fiesty whenever she was embarrassed, shame he couldn't ratchet up the embarrassment some more but Anna would become to curious then, and that's the last thing both of them wanted to try and explain *what* they were really doing...despite the fact that Nixie would probably never admit it herself.
He was a bit too wrapped up in his image of a flustered Nixie to notice a girl, in a white blouse and jeans, stumbling towards him, any other time he would've offered to help her. Alas he was too busy imagining his young friend being adorably bashful in nothing but an apron, though the fact that she kind of collapsed into him caused him to snap out of his daydream and help the young lady to her feet. "You alright there miss?" One drunken slur, and what he mistook for getting his bottom squeezed, caused Niccolo to wave goodbye to the girl before resuming his walk. He wasn't entirely sure what caused him to stick his hands in his back pockets...maybe it was the fact that he didn't really like his free hand swing, or maybe it was his trained sense telling him that her little grope was largely out of place, but whatever caused didn't help hide the reality. His wallet was gone.
Hoping that it was some sort of misunderstanding on her part, Niccolo turned right back around and paced after the girl that stumbled into him. She was difficult to catch up with, and from the looks of it her attention was currently occupied by something. Making it very easy for him to walk right beside her with an amused grin on his face. "Soo did the lovely lady just think I'd buy her a drink without me physical being there?" The look of shock on the young girl's face priceless, though that didn't stop the known ladies man, no sir! "Cause I'm all for buying a pretty lass a drink, but I sort of need my wallet for that. Maybe we could resolve this over a meal." They both came to a stop where Niccolo held out his hand as she considered his proposal, and from the looks of it she was seriously considering it or she was still wrapped up in some sort of fantasy. Niccolo wasn't quite sure but that didn't stop him from slightly pushing the issue of his wallet. "So what'll it be, Miss?"► ---------------------------------- Rosso
