Ages ago, things were much different than they are now. Humans roamed the earth much as they do now, but they were not alone. The Faerie Folk walked with them... watching them and in a lot of ways envying them. Some were malicious, challenging humans to do feats that would assuredly kill them.
When one is immortal, in a sense, it becomes a day to day chore to stay occupied.
Some would steal away human children, leaving one of their own in its place. These creatures became known as Changelings, because of their ability to mimic the child they were put in the place of. Still, the Faerie and Humans lived together in relative peace, the Faerie feeding off of the imaginations, dreams and hopes of the humans.
Now, however, things have changed.
Science and technology have given 'solid proof' of things that before would be attributed to magic. People no longer believed that the 'Fair Folk' were real, and so, ove time, they began to fade away. Now the Faerie are realising that they are not as immortal as they believed, and with the invention of cold iron, found out the hard way that they could most certainly die.
Today, some humans are considered 'touched', and viewed as crazy when they speak of the Faerie. Some believe that they are merely children's tales from long ago. There are those, however, who know that they DO exist and are on the brink of extinction.
In some instances, humans or other creatures can 'attract' a Faerie by leaving out something that the Faerie finds enticing... some others can commune with the Faerie directly. In some instances, a Faerie parent can be convinced to leave their child in the care of these humans, in hopes that the child will be raised in the changing times and be able to adapt in ways that the parents couldn't.
This is a place where it can happen. Do you dare to dream?

1. The artwork takes time. I will not give any set schedule for growing, etc, because I honestly have no clue when each stage will be done. I will try to get each stage done in a timely manner however.
2. No begging, harrassing, etc, of myself or any owners. When I give away a child or sell one, or what have you, I do it for my own reasoning or for a certain set event. I will not likely just give one to you because you pester me enough. In fact, it will likely make me NOT want to give one to you. Hang around, make conversation, and be nice! It gets you places. biggrin
3. I WILL NOT copy any existing 'pet' as a Changeling, either in design or in concept. This includes, but not limited to: Fa'e, Legend of the Tale, Feien, etc, so long as I am aware of the similarity. If I DO copy something inadvertantly, I expect to be told of it in a polite manner, please. I will make every effort to correct the error, but I do not take kindly to flames and threats.
4. Treat me with respect and I will treat you the same.
5. Jaden's and Talistan's word is law here. Remember that.
6. Only one Changeling per avatar. They are a lot of work on my part and on the part of the person maintaining the diary. Also, I want to make it so that everyone who wants one has the chance to get one.

These are the growing stages of the Changelings.
DEFINITIONS
Open RP: An RP in the main Changelings thread, in which anyone can participate. It must be COMPLETE. That means, if you bail out without warning and leave your character hanging... it's up to YOU to find a way to finish it. Those who complete the RP will get credit for it.
Closed/Private RP: An RP that takes place over AIM, in a guild thread or in a journal. It is generally by invitation only.
Diary Post: Just that. A Dear Diary post made by you or the Changeling.
Relic
In this stage, the prospective parent is given or finds an ancient relic, one that holds meaning for the Faerie. Most often, it is an item that was used by them or owned by them and still retains a bit of their Glamour, or life energy. It acts as a beacon, attracting Faeries to at least come and take a look. In some instances, the call of the object brings ou a curiosity in the Faerie and they begin to watch the people in proximity. Under ideal conditions, the Faerie will grow to trust the caretakers and gift them with a child to raise. This is the only way that the Faerie as a race will survive, as the changing times themselves are slowly killing them.
Relic Requirements
Front page of journal must be filled out. (Doesn't have to be all 15 posts, but I need to see some effort, not just 'Reserved' in all of them.)
Complete 1 RP with Jaden/Naukhel about the finding of the relic... OR write an entry about finding your relic, with the Changelings business card attached.
Respond to the 'footsteps' post that Jaden will leave in your journal.
Baby
The lure of the relic has worked! Your patience has brought a Faerie parent to trust you enough to gift you with the privilege of raising their child. As the child grows older, they will become more and more closely bonded to you and will learn to adapt to the new ages, preventing them from fading away as the Glamour fades from the world. At this stage, they are much like normal infants, however you may notice that they are more aware of their surroundings.
Baby Requirements
Must be a baby for at least 1 month.
1 Open RP in the thread, completed.

Complete a Toddler quest.
Toddler
Look out! Your bouncing baby is now a toddler and has likely learned to run before they can crawl. Now is the time to child-proof your house and pray that their first words are appropriate for civilised company. During this time, the child will learn to speak, will start to develop a personality of their own and will be insanely curious of nearly everything in reach.
Toddler Requirements
Must be a toddler for at least 1 month.
2 Open RPs in the thread, completed.
4 Dear Diary OR Solo/Private RP posts.
Complete a Child quest. (From this point on, all quests will be at the caretaker's discretion, they will NOT be assigned by Jaden.)
Child
Far from the relative calm of babyhood, now your Faerie is a child. For some, this can be a willful and independant time as a child tests the boundaries of your patience. Others are quiet and resouceful, learning as much as they can. Whatever traits your child possesses, this is the Golden Time of their youth, and likely one of the most joyful.
Child Requirements
Must be a child for at least 3 months.

Complete a Teen quest.
Teen
Hide the car keys. Your little darling is now a full fledged teen and is likely trying to spread their wings. While some are still a bit young for leaving the nest, others are more independant and try to strike out on their own. Whatever the case, they still need your care and guidance, now more than ever... whether they want it or not.
Teen Requirements
Must be a teen for at least 4 months.

Meet with Naukhel. (complete RP)
Complete a Young Adult quest.
Young Adult
Not quite a teen anymore, but not quite an adult either. This is a difficult time, when Changelings find themselves wondering just what to do with their lives, or just enjoying themselves and taking it easy. Whichever yours decides, it's always an amusing time... generally for those who get to watch.
Young Adult Requirements
Must be a YA for at least 6 months.

Adult
Finally, the hard work in raising your child has paid off. Perhaps they have acquired a job and a family of their own? Or perhaps they still live with you and intend to do so for a long time. Whichever the case, they are capable of handling the world now, and are no longer in danger of succumbing to the banality that threatens their race. Congratulations!!
Adult Requirements
All requirements are gone as of this stage. Your Changeling is an adult, and is no longer required to be RP'd. If you wish your Changeling to breed, however, they will have to be RP'd.

Forbidden Changelings
At some times, a specific type of Changeling may be listed here. The reasons may vary for each, and if you have a question as to 'why', feel free to PM me and ask.
1. Centaurs and centaur-like creatures. This includes any creature based on half-humanoid/half hooved creature. If you're unsure whether or not your concept is included in this, PM me and ask.
2. Unicorns. No more unicorns. The ONLY exception to this will be if someone wishes a Kirin child.

Now to the REAL FAQ:
1. How do I get one? I will give away children at certain times to those that I deem fit. No, I don't know exactly what method I'll be using, but I've had suggestions of page number claims, lurker 'prize', free raffle, etc.
2. What if I give you gold/items/etc? Sorry. If I was in this to make money, I wouldn't have already said that I was giving them away for the most part. Come try and bribe me after I say I'm actually selling.
3. OMG I LOVE <Insert other pet name here> can I get one like that?? NO. Not just 'no' but HELL NO. I have far too much respect for the people who do unique lineart pets to even THINK about copying their work and concepts.
4. I own this pet... and someone else owns this one. We want them to have a child, can you do that? Maybe. In instances like this, I would need to speak with the owner of the original shop. There are some (like the Fa'e) that require you to have any children through a specific other shop (in this case, the GMFC). If I will be breaking ANY OTHER SHOP'S RULES, the answer will be no. However, if I gain permission from the shop owner to make a child for them, then the normal availability rules apply and I'd be happy to help you if you get a chance to get a Changeling.
5. Is RP required? Yes. I will create a diary for your child, and I DO expect to see some initiative on your part to RP them, be it in the diary or in the shop. RP threads in the guild are also another way to interact.
6. What will happen if I don't RP for a while? I would prefer if you make at least one post per month in your diary. If you don't or can't, nothing will happen to your child, other than the fact that their growth will be halted. What this means is that I will NOT sell/give away/etc any Changeling. However, if you stop posting for a long period of time, I will not take any initiative to make that child grow to the next stage until I see you back and posting again.
7. Can I bring other pets/children/etc in here to RP? Yes! Whether you have a Changeling or not, you are more than welcome to bring your pets, your other RP children or just yourselves in to join the play here.
8. Do we have to do our quests immediately, even if we're not quite ready for them to grow to the next stage yet? NO! I'll post a quest when I feel the child has been around long enough and you've made enough progression to warrant a growth stage. Until that quest is complete, the child will not grow. That means that you can post your heart out, do RP's, work your plots, or anything else your little heart desires. Post til the diary hits 100 pages! Until that quest is done, your child won't grow. There is no mandatory timeframe for completing a quest, you do it at your leisure.
More FAQ will come as they are needed.
RP FAQ:
1. How will I get my relic? One of two methods... either Jaden Silvermoon will approach the new caretaker and give them the relic... or Naukhel will leave it for them to find. Jaden is currently missing, so the second option is all that's available. Caretakers are welcome to 'find' their relic however they like. Be aware, that there will always be some kind of 'calling card' found either with the relic or shortly thereafter, that will direct caretakers towards the Changeling shop.
2. Now that I've got a relic, what do I do? Leave it outside! Caretakers will NEVER actually see or interact with the parents of their Changeling. If the relic isn't left outside, the parents will take much longer to leave a child behind...
3. Where is the shop? The Changelings shop is little more than a cozy little cottage located in Barton West Field, near the forest line. At some point, I'll have to draw the cottage, but for now, just assume it to be small, with dutch doors and a garden in the back. To those who ever venture into the forest behind the cottage, there is a natural fairy ring amidst the trees. However, the only ones that seem to be able to access it are the Fey themselves.

Mischievous, easygoing, friendly and good-natured. Those are a few of the words used to describe Jaden in the past. Born in Arcadia, Jaden nearly succumbed to the banality that was killing so many of his brethren. In a last, desperate attempt to save their child, his parents took Jaden to a human woman they'd seen using magics and herbs. They figured that anyone who still clung to the old ways MUST be a good caretaker for a young Faerie.
They were right. The young Satyr grew quickly and learned all he could. When he was old enough to finally realise that he was different from the old woman, he asked her where he had come from. That was when Jaden learned of his heritage and the sacrifice his parents had made to keep him alive. To this day, he still wears the pendant that the old woman swore brought his parents to her. It was an ancient Faerie relic that had been infused with Glamour. Though his guardian mother is long dead, Jaden now scours Gaia for more of these Faerie relics to bestow upon hopeful people who wish to help raise a Changeling child as well.
