It has certainly been a long, eventful journey.
Though, as they say, all good things must come to an end. The rocky road of the SMs has an end in clear sight, and its quickly approaching.

I would like to make it clear that this is not on account of recent events. This thought has been plaguing my mind for some time now, and only recently have I decided that my feet are coming to that end in the road. What I am saying is, there will be no more new Skull Monkeys.

This thread has brought to me great joy and great sadness, but the happiness always outrules the disappointing times. Basically everyone here I have befriended and will cherish that for large amounts of time afterwards. People such as Sailormoon, Hinabi, Lenta, Emelyn.. they've been here all along. Thank you for staying. Em, especially, your ideas have brought depth and challenge to this project, and without it we couldn't have been so original. Thanks. And thank you to every single other person, keeper of a Skull Monkey or a lurker, bumper, stalker. There have always been those people pushing me on to greater heights for this creation.

Things I would like to make very clear to you:
+ Every Skull Monkey will continue to grow. I am not abandoning this place. I'll still be around the thread and the guild. There just won't be any more new Skull Monkeys.
+ Fifth stage items.. The deadline for using these will be set as September 1st. You do not have to use them. Those who have already used theirs will definitely grow. Liz is trying to complete those, though her starting school is lagging her much. No hating, she's trying her hardest. heart
+ The guild.. Please continue to use it. I know there have been friendships made here or even brought here, and I'd hate to see them to go waste. The guild will always be accessible to you.
+ Breeding. It won't open. As I said, no new Skull Monkeys will be brought out. I'm terribly sorry about this.

If I can think of more to add, I will. This was my decision to make, and I hope you can see that the interest in this project, from me, has steadily declined. I may take on future projects, so do watch out for me. This has nothing to do with amounts of time I have, though my free time will be going down the drain with the start of hockey season and school. I am certainly not leaving Gaia. You can PM me and talk to me all you want, still! As I said, I'm am not abandoning, its not my style.

In the long run, this journey has been a memorable one. A thousand pages of one, and that's only the third thread's count! Jeez, you guys are dedicated. I love you all so much for putting up with my crudtastic art for such a massive amount of time. Thank you, thank you very much.

There may or may not be an uproar after this message is read.. If you think a message is inappropriate for the eyes of everyone, feel free to PM me. I will not suppress anyone from their opinions; I'll be glad to hear what you think.

So, Skull Monkeys have at least four stages, X3.

The tail color indidcates the color of the Skull Monkey's fur, and the pebble color usually indicates the ear color, and marking colors. This stage is the shortest; usually a 2-4 day long period.

Infants are generally learning about the world, as they have just "hatched." Sometimes, all they want to do is rest, while other times they are bouncing bundles of joy. They meet most of their lifelong friends at this age, and make great bonds with each other. Infant stage is when most keepers find out their SM's personality, though it could still change as they grow older.

Sometimes they even develop crushes on another Skull Monkey! They seem to have the most energy at this point in their life. Usually they are off on adventures to one place, testing out the strength of their skulls, and forming deeper bonds with each other through trust and conversation. Sometimes they even defy their keepers, often venturing into the woods themselves. It is a time of personality solidification.

The fourth is an teen/adult. At first it's more of a teenager stage, seeing as they still have childish urges in them, and are getting used to being.. old. Soon enough they will mature to an adult age, at which their love life grows rapidly, and they might even decide to have their own pebble/s. It is this age that they will accept who they have become. Fur markings are finalized. Store bought items are received. It is now that their keepers look back at pebble pictures saying, Where did the time go..? crying

The fifth stage is the most exciting, we would all agree. It is the anthro stage! Considering the personality that your Skull Monkey grew up with, they will form into a beautiful or handsome adult anthro. What is similar between all of the Fifthers is the Skull Monkey hat, and the tail. The hat holds a special power for your SM to switch back and forth between their anthro and Skull Monkey stage. The tail is a reminder that they are not humans, and are still one of the Skull Monkeys; it is also a reminder of fur colour and patterns from earlier on in their life.

To get to the fifth stage, you require a special item. They are only received during Fifth Stage Marathons. They are custom made, specially crafted, and cannot be sold, bought, or traded. They are ONLY for your SM, and you do NOT have to use them at all if you don't want.

Note: Skull Monkeys are NOT BORN WITH SKULLS, contrary to popular belief. Like crabs, they grow into their skulls. At the child age, they discover their first skulls, though they are rather big and bulky.

Mistreatment during the early ages will result in the more cracks and broken-ness of the skull, :0.

Life Cycles Explained!

Pebble - Usually 1, 2 days. Sometimes more.
Infant - 10 days +
Child - 2 weeks or more
Adults - Lifetime, unless a special fifth-stage item is aquired.

Please try not to pester us too much if your Skull Monkey doesn't grow within the alotted time, and especially if the time hasn't passed yet. We are busy peoples, and we do try our best, gonk .

Hey there! Maddy here. I'm usually up in the top floor of the Headquarters, but I was recently asked to take on this important task. See, the little ones here were heartlessly abandoned.. For various reasons, some of which we don't know. I'll take you through their files in a moment, but first I'll show you the ground rules.

Adoption rules dont rhyme with

1. Don't be rude and miss your appointment, once one is set.
2. Be as truthful as possible. We need to be able to trust you with the care of this poor SM!
3. You don't need to have a Skull Monkey already to be able to reply. Also, if you have a SM of the same generation, such rules of 1 per gen do not apply.
4. There has to be absolutely no chance that this SM will be abandoned any further. What you're providing is a PERMANENT home, we hope!

Okay, so it's pretty basic, but you get the deal. More'll be added later, if I think its necessary.

The first thing you do, if you're interested, is to send a note [PM this account] to us, saying you'd like an appointment regarding.. whichever Skull Monkey you're interested in. We'll try and find a time good enough for the both of us!

Once there's an appointment, I'll be doing an interview on you. No need to be scared, I'm as relaxed as you should be! These'll be done either over AIM in a chatroom or by PM! Hopefully in realtime for those.

Beyond that, it's waiting time! Remember, there might be others tryin' for the same one you want to give love and care for, so be patient while I make the life changing decision for the little one! These things take time, no need for them to be rushed.

Lastly, once you have passed our qualifications and are given keepership of the SM, there is a 4k adoption fee. It's less than the usual flatsale fee because these guys have grown already from the pebble stage.

So, what're you waiting for?

Breeding is UNavailable, though since we want the Skull Monkey population to be small, the cost will be steep.

It will cost 12,000 gold for your Skull Monkeys to breed the first time. To make it fair, it will be 6k from each parent, and two pebbles, one per parent. Only SMs of the same generation can breed.

Breeding works at adult and/or fifth stage. It does not require any intercourse, as it's done completely by DNA mixing. We have DNA stored in our databases already from every Skull Monkey, we will just have to access them. Once this DNA is used, we replace it [don't worry, not painful at all n_n We just need one piece of fur.]

Fur colours will vary. It depends on the parents, of course, but sometimes the design and/or colours are completely random. Depends on how the DNA reacts with each other.

The second time breeders will have to pay 20,000 gold to breed. [10k per parent this time.] It is more difficult to use DNA from the older stages than it is to use the pebble fur from the parents. Since we've used up that DNA, and we're using the newer DNA, it becomes a more complicated process. The second time breeding is the last time breeding, unfortunately.

As for fifth stagers, the same applies. We use a strand of hair the second time around instead of fur, of course. The Fifth stage does NOT pass onto the children, especially not the first time due to us using pebble DNA.

Sorry, but do not complain to us about any of the above, especially the pricing. We want these little guys to be cared for, and if you will care for them, you will pay the amount. The equipment, as well, is quite expensive to purchase to care for the pebbles [such as the incubators, thought translators, special formula, etc.etc.] Thanks for understanding. Through roleplay, you learn a lot about your particular Skull Monkey. It's a great opportunity, too, to socialize with other owners and Skull Monkeys. It's suggested that you roleplay your Skull Monkey and keep active, so I know that you actually have interest in the shop and your SM and others.

Roleplaying includes informal [Madeline: -walks over and flops on the couch-] and formal [Tobias shakes his head, wondering why his sister is so weird.] I don't care which one you use n_~

The logs are meant as something fun. You should post maybe, once a week at the least. They're especially there for quick posts for us to know that you're alive, say if you didn't have time to start/continue a full on roleplay. Also, it's good for recording important days and events!

Where do Skull Monkeys come from?
We found them stranded on a small island just east of Switzerland.

Who draws/colors the Skull Monkeys?

What program do you use to draw/color the Skull Monkeys?
Quietsnooze used openCanvas to draw the lineart for the Monkeys. She uses openCanvas to color them, aswell, and I use Photoshop 7.0 for the ones I color! whee

What do I feed my Skull Monkey?
Contrary to popular belief, Skull Monkeys do eat. They are not dead, they just have little skulls over their heads. xd

What to feed them, though, is a different matter. It depends on your personal Skull Monkey's taste, but some like things like bugs, or bananas and other fruit, while others tend to lean more towards the human side of taste, and like food such as spaghetti, chocolate, cheese, etc.

Is it true that Skull Monkeys originated from Bleu/Blue Cheese?!
There has been no documented evidence to support this theory, but it does seem likely.

I don't like what my Skull Monkey says/does in it's tag. Can you change it for me?

This means that the Skull Monkey is special in some way. Maybe it has a unique item, or wings, or any other special trait. All Skull Monkeys are unique, but few are special, so watch out for these Skull Monkeys!
