Currently: Lurking around.

Name: Shinta, aka Shin
Gender: Male
Birthday: May 15, 2004
Siblings: None? Honestly, I'm not sure…
Mate: Yeah right

Likes: rain, isolation, the window seat
Dislikes: being crowded, large groups, being asked about his skull

Personality: A quiet introvert, Shinta prefers his own company to the companionship of most others. He dislikes being the center of attention, and tries hard not to be the focus of the room. Often lost in thought, he values silence with his solitude. He's soft-spoken, until he has to support his opinions - and he has plenty of those. When it comes to standing up for something he believes in, he can be quite stubborn.

9:06am - Busy days. Shinta grew last week, but I've been so occupied with work I haven't had time to make any notations here. In other news, my Birthday is tomorrow, so I may not be able to make any real entries until the weekend or later.

3:37pm - Just got back from lunch. Shinta and I went out to eat. At least he's talking to me now, albeit briefly.

2:47pm - Shinta was passed into my care today. While nothing has gone particularly bad so far, I have a feeling I'm in for a bumpy ride. However, he does seem to have taken a particular liking to Salem. Or rather, she took a particular liking to him. Anyway, I'm hoping she can help him adjust a little, maybe.

ps - Shin hasn't said a word so far. Should I be worried?

I don't think Shin is very fond of the word 'family' so I'll refrain from using it. Let's just say these are the figures involved in his life as I know it.

I guess it's not really fair to leave myself out, seeing as it's now my responsability to act as his guardian. I don't really like talking about myself though…

Ah, Salem. She loves him, much to what seems to be his dismay. Shinta regards her with a lot of hesitation, but he's good at tolerating her annoyances. I'm hoping they will get along better in time, but at least there doesn't seem to be any tension between them.

Shinta as he was when he came into my care. An antisocial, handsome child.</center>

A sketch I quickly threw together the night Shin came home with me.

Fom Keppit and Jen! It's a little puppet monkey, how cute. It sits in Shin's room.

June 25th - Afternoon

It was ironic how many flaws there were in perfection.

She had gone to exceptional lengths (for her, anyway) to make sure the not-too-small apartment was impeccable. Hiru had always been one for organized clutter, and couldn’t care less about a bit of a mess here and there… But this was a special occasion. It wasn’t every day someone got to rescue a child and welcome him into her life, and she wanted to make sure she didn’t screw this opportunity up.

Dust was chased from the crevices that harbored it, clothes were shuffled from hampers, through the wash, and into their drawers, and a vacuum was run diligently over the already-clean carpet. She was even sure to move the furniture and run the machine over their previous resting places. As a finishing touch, Hiru placed something that looked suspiciously like a dog bed and a baby-sized blanket in the corner of the small library at the end of the hall, and grinned to herself with a sort of satisfaction that told her she’d done the job well.

She couldn’t have been more wrong.

Figuratively speaking, anyway. The house was spotless. Shinta just didn’t seem to have any appreciation for it. She could have sworn she saw him scowling as she opened the antiqued door… But then, it was rather hard to tell. He’d shown so little expression since she’d met him, Hiru wasn’t sure if he was overjoyed or near breakdown. Maybe she was just being pessimistic in assuming the worst. It was hard not to.

Then again, he still hadn’t said a word to her, and she was finding it difficult not to be concerned about that. Had she thrown him into shock or something? There just wasn’t anything about the situation that said ‘It’s ok!’ Not that she had a problem with it, if it were to turn out that he couldn’t…

“I’m hungry.”

And she sighed. Not with exasperation, but with relief. It was probably a little careless of her to be grateful he had been so starved as to break what seemed to be a vow of silence, but desperate times called for desperate measures, and she was glad.

“I’d be worried if you weren’t. It’s been a while since you’ve eaten. Anyway… Are you hungry for anything in particular?”

He stared at her briefly, and then lowered himself to his haunches. “Fish sounds good…” Well, she didn’t seem too bad. Not yet, anyway.

“Hmm, fish. Don’t think I have any around here. How about… we go and see if I can find a seafood restaurant that won’t mind letting you in?” She wasn't going to bother telling him she hated fish.

He nodded slightly, she smiled, and they left together.

Progress!

Jen: Here... *sigh* it's a monkey and it's for Shin-to
Keppit: Shinta
Jen: *sigh* Shinta.... I hope he likes it...

Hiru took the small puppet in-hand, and smiled softly at the young Jen. "Thank you! I'm sure he will." And she left to find a place for it in Shinta's room.
