She's convinced she could hold back a glacier
But she couldn't keep Baby alive
Doubting if there's a woman in there somewhere
Here
You say you don't want it again
And again but you don't really mean it
You say you don't want it
This circus we're in
But you don't you don't really mean it
You don't really mean it
if the Divine master plan is perfection
Maybe next I'll give Judas a try
Trusting my soul to the ice cream assassin
Here
You say you don't want it again
And again but you don't really mean it
You say you don't want it
This cirucs we're in
But you don't you don't really mean it
You don't really mean it
How may fates turn around in the overtime
Ballerinas that have fins that you'll never find
You thought that you were the bomb yeah
Well so did I
Say you don't want it
Say you don't want it
Say you don't want it again
And again but you don't really mean it
Say you don't want it
This circus we're in
But you don't you don't really mean it

Name: Bethany Knowles
Call Me: Beth
Gender: Female
Age: 27
Height: 5'4"
Weight: 120 lbs
Place of Birth: Baltimore, Maryland
Hair: Light brown
Eyes: Green
Occupation: Bookseller
Distinguishing features (Human): Short hair, parted in the middle and tucked behind her ears. Eyes framed behind horn-rimmed glasses that she sometimes takes off, but needs to read. A speckling of freckles across the bridge of her nose, as well as over her shoulders though few ever see the latter. Slender, though her figure has lost some of the attraction it held in her high-school years. Perhaps she simply doesn't carry herself as well as she used to, as much of the confidence she once displayed is no longer evident.
Bethany frequently wrings her hands, regardless of whether she is stressed or speaking to anyone. When sitting, her knees are primly pressed together, her legs crossed at the ankles. Often she will bite her lower lip during awkward pauses in conversation.
Bethany dresses unassumingly. Most often she can be found wearing a button-down white blouse with an unbuttoned long-sleeve sweater, as well as either khakis or a long skirt. She wears flat pumps, never heels.
Voice: Quiet, sometimes almost a whisper. At times there is a hint of something more, and when she feels comfortable enough to sing she is a strong Alto. She doesn't sing much anymore.
Personality: When she was younger, Bethany's looks and popularity bolstered her confidence immensely. She was hot, and quite frankly she knew it, perhaps a little too much. As a result, she floated amongst the usual cliques and the pettiness of her peers was contagious.
Bethany's personality is in stark contrast to her high-school years. Adult life has been a far cry from when she was a teenager, and it has subdued her significantly. She has become increasingly antisocial, though by no means impolite.
Character Background: Bethany was always Daddy's girl growing up. The younger of two daughters, nothing was too good for Daddy's baby. Bethany took advantage of this from an early age, and one would be right to say she was spoiled.
Both she and her older sister attended private schools their entire education, enjoying the perks of their parents' wealth. It was in high-school that she met a strange boy: Nicolas Moreau.
Even in a private school, some students are richer than others. Moreau was certainly one of these, and as such he caught Bethany's eye. It wasn't out of any real attraction, but more a shallow infatuation with the idea of Moreau and what he could do for her. Though Bethany was by no means unintelligent, Moreau was not interested in her in the least, and ultimately simply ignored her. This may not have been intentional, as Moreau was always quite wrapped up in his studies. Bethany however took this personally.
When Moreau rejected her advances, she responded in typical petty fashion: by making his life hell. As absorbed as Moreau was, Bethany was infuriated that with repeated attempts she just couldn't upset the boy. Wanting to finally embarrass him once and for all, Bethany stole one of the animal cadavers he was experimenting upon. Moreau found the dead cat the next morning in his locker, wearing makeup and a dress, doused in perfume. The whole school saw the look in the boy's eyes. Bethany had made her mark.
A father's love sometimes has limits, and Bethany found them in college. All the partying never tarnished her relationship with her father, but one thing did: returning home one winter break not with a boyfriend, but a
girlfriend. Talk with her father has been strained ever since.
Dropping out of a college she could no longer afford, Bethany's life spiraled downward with a long string of lesbian relationships and an extended courtship with the bottle. By the time she stabilized her life she barely recognized herself.
Bethany now owns a small bookstore in upstate New York. She's been on her own for years now, living with reduced expectations now that she has been cut off from her parents' wealth. Try as she might, she simply cannot fit in as well as she could in her youth. She cannot be normal, and she cannot pretend she is anything but what she has become. Her high school days ring hollow to her, and in hindsight she sees not just the lies she told others, but the lies she told herself.
Bethany is a member of Alcoholics Anonymous, and attends meetings almost religiously. However, her four years of sobriety are more in spite of the program than because of it. Bethany has stayed away from alcohol mostly in revulsion from what she became after she dropped out of college. She fears what she perceives as a weakness, and no matter how hard her sponsor tries, she has gained no peace or perspective from her time in the program.
How does your Character get to/why was your character chosen for the Island?:Quote:
She sat huddled in her cell, shivering. She was still wearing the bookish clothes that had become the uniform of her adult life, gazing towards the one pinprick of light she could see.
Outside, her captors mused upon her fate.
"I'll admit," the doctor said as he went over his notes "I'm rather disappointed."
"She's not really how either of us remember her," Aubrey replied.
"I'd been planning this for so long. Look at her. Look at her! This? This is Bethany Knowles? I can barely recognize her!"
"I'm not that surprised. We didn't attend the reunion for a reason, remember?"
"After all these years wanting to spring this on her, remembering the jeers, planning the perfect revenge, she can't even give me the satisfaction! This can't be her. There must have been a mistake."
"The men you paid to kidnap her don't
make mistakes, Nicolas."
"But what can I do to her? What can I do to this... mouse of a woman."
"You might have overthought this Nicolas. It's been over ten years."
"You have to understand, Aubrey. What she did to me. What she did to my experiment. It was... unsanitary." He wrung his hands, clearly agitated.
"I was there, remember?"
"It's the principle of it! Grudges must be settled!"
"Would it really mean anything anymore?"
"It would to me!"
He swept his arm across the counter, knocking a piece of glassware to the ground, shattering it noisily. A pained look upon her face, Aubrey sheepishly began to sweep up the shards.
"I suppose you're right."
"Of course I'm right! The girl who tormented me is still somewhere within this feeble wreck! I will have satisfaction! She was a ravening b***h when we knew her, and I swear I will make her one again!"
The sounds of the doctor's cackling echoed down the hall, and within the cell Bethany huddled in fear at the noise. Footsteps rang on the floor, the doctor striding resolutely towards his captive.
The door opened.
It was the first she'd seen his face in more than a decade.
"Oh God... Moreau?!"
"Oh Bethany, dear sweet Bethany," He said, his grin an unyeilding rictus, "I'm touched. You recognize me."
"P-please don't hurt me!"
"Hurt you? Why Bethany, that's the furthest thing from my mind!"
"You're not going to hurt me?"
"Ah, you catch on quickly. I'm glad the intervening years haven't dulled your mind as much as they have your spirit. You see my kind woman, you are very sick."
"S-sick?"
"Absolutely. Fortunately, I have it within my means to cure you."
"But I'm not sick!"
"I beg to differ, Bethany. I have witnessed your sickness firsthand, and you've been sick so very long."
"What do you mean?"
"Malice, Bethany. Malice is a human illness, and you have shown it to me in spades."
"Oh God. You... what are you going to do to me?"
"As I said, cure you."
"I don't understand!"
"It's quite simple. As malice is a disease of the human condition, I have a rather obvious solution. I will simply wring the humanity from you, cell by cell..."
Bethany's eyes were frozen in fear as she began to understand just what the doctor had planned...
What Serum do you want?: The doctor has deemed to punish the "b***h" by mingling her genes with those of a stark-white Tundra Wolf (Canis Lupus Albus), found in the boreal forests of western Russia and northern Scandinavia.
Describe your ideal 100% appearance: As the serum takes hold, Bethany begins to notice white streaks in her hair, which grows wilder and longer. In the end it has cascaded into a stark ivory mane, hanging at waist length. A thick white pelt has sprouted from her skin, with a long ruff sweeping from her neck and a bushy wolfish tail thrashing at her rear. She has digitigrade legs, counterbalanced by her tail. Her breasts are still largely human, though covered in fur, and she has vestigial teats beneath the fur of her abdomen. She has a muzzle filled with sharp teeth, but has retained her green eyes.
Why this animal for your character?: Beyond the play-on-words, Moreau is somewhat dismayed that the spirited girl who embarrassed him so thoroughly in his teenaged years has matured into this subdued, almost shy woman. Though his sense of humor is satisfied, he looks forward to the serum administered to Bethany making her a worthy opponent for his ire.
What do you think really makes this concept? Why you?: Bethany's repressed feelings and misgivings about her sexuality will come to a head as new instincts creep in and she has to come to terms with what she is becoming. Likewise her regrets about the choices she has made are forced into a crisis as she is stranded on an island and faced with the helplessness of her situation, not being able to return to her life and even try to make something of it.
