A lot has happened in my life lately. I kept wanting to inform you guys of these, but alas, I had no time. Here is a quick summary of my life since last Thursday:
Thursday:
After school I had a 3 and a half hour color guard practice. I also had a paper due the next day and was up at 4 in the morning finishing it.
Friday:
I planned to print out my paper on the school computers and emailed the paper to my yahoo address so I could access it. The Internet was down in the school though, and I missed half of first period panicking until I finally broke down and had my mom print out the paper on her computer at home. When I got to second period (the period the paper was due), I was exhausted and had a terrible headache. Then my teacher revealed that she had extended the due date because she wanted us to bring in visual aids too. I nearly fainted out of shock and fatigue.
That afternoon, I got inducted into the National Honor Society, which turned out to be an enormous mixture of nerves and relief. Immediately afterwards, I caught a ride with my friend Sarah to another color guard practice. The entire team worked their asses off and we ended up practicing from 3:00 that afternoon until 10:30 that night.
Saturday:
I woke up a 7:00 to go to guard practice. We were practicing from 8:00 to 11:00. We then got on a bus and rode to the state finals. We watched the drum line perform on the way there and practiced a bunch when we arrived at our destination. We saw a plethora of other guards, ranging from elementary school ones who were absolutely adorable to professional ones that blew the audiences socks off. We did some more practicing before we performed in a designated part of the stadium and I ended up breaking a light when I did one of my flag tosses. Glass was everywhere! My couch asked me if I was OK, and when I sheepishly nodded yes, he responded, “Good. Don’t let it affect your performance. And don’t cry. Your makeup will run.”
When we did perform, we had a pretty good run. The show is a comedy about shopping, and I have a solo at the end where I come out with a clothing rack. It’s a very unstable clothes rack, and this performance there were more clothes than normal on it. Thus, the clothes rack tipped over and lost an awful lot of clothes. While thinking “oh s**t” and smiling like my life depended on it, I gathered the fallen clothes and threw them up in the air, acting like it was all apart of the show. Afterwards, everyone kept telling me how great my recovery was. I just hope I didn’t lose my team any major points. We ended up being right in the middle scoring-wise in our section. We got ninth place out of seventeen. We also got our highest score of the season. Next year, I hope to be a captain, instead of just a squad leader so that my friend Sarah and I can whip everyone into shape with our mad senior skills. We arrived home around 12:30 that night.
Sunday:
I woke up early again in order to attend Anime Punch and meet Internet friend Yao Ling. My sister and I were there until 5:00 pm. When I got home, I prepared for my British Literature presentation, studied for A.P. European History, and finished my homework.
Monday:
My presentation in British Literature went well! I also started to understand logarithms. Then, the most exciting thing that’s ever happened in Hilliard happened. An escaped convict robbed two banks in our area then ran into a house and took hostages. The entire school district went into lockdown and everyone was freaking out. The house he was in was on a few minutes away and we could see helicopters positioned right across the street from our second story window. We all missed 8th period and I was upset because I had wanted to get math help like I always do that period since I had a test the next day. Oh well. In the end, no one died and the convict promised to turn himself in if the swat team ordered him a pizza. I guess he knew his struggles were futile.
I stayed after school for an hour waiting for the guard trailer so I could help unload it. Some other girls and I unloaded it and then stayed at school until 6:30 cleaning out the guard room, which was a disaster. I swear, those in charge and previously in charge of all things color guard at our school are incredibly unorganized. When I got home I studied like crazy for my math test and my A.P. European History test.
Tuesday:
My math test went well. Not too sure about my history one though. After I got home, I spent the rest of the day with a visiting friend from Scotland (well, his mother is Irish, his dad is English but divides his time between his houses in Ohio and Spain, and he goes to boarding school/sometimes lives with his Gran in Scotland) who I haven’t heard from in a year. His name is Jamie and he’s the son of one of my aunt’s friends. He’s incredibly nice, polite, and talented. He plays the guitar and the bagpipes, speaks Spanish and Latin, has an awesome English accent, and is very mature. He’s also very nice looking. The only problem is, although it doesn’t seem like it since he’s so mature (a result of living on his own with his older brothers), he’s 14 and a half and I’m 17. He's way taller than me though. Oh well… I’ll wait till he’s older (I still kind of like the kid from my chemistry class anyway). Jamie taught me a little bit on the guitar and played the bagpipes for everyone. We also played put-put golf and ate pie. He’s as bad at golf as I am and we both got the same score of 72 without even finishing all the holes. He said “bugger” and I thought it was awesome. I got home late and didn’t finish my homework due to lack of time and exhaustion.
Wednesday:
So what did Laura do today? After getting barely any sleep at all the past week, how could she possibly do anything else productive? Well, to tell you the truth, I didn’t do anything productive today except write this. That’s right. Since I didn’t have any tests today and have one hell of a day scheduled for tomorrow, I skipped school and slept in till noon.
I need to acquire more stamina and resolve.
