What I love about traveling is ... waking up early in the morning, driving to the airport in the quiet, still, cool pre-dawn hour, the anticipation of the flight to come, the fascinating, sophisticated hustle and bustle of the airport, crowds of people from around the world speaking many languages flowing down the hallways, the sights, smells, and sounds of the airport - the magazine and souvenirs, the little shops, boarding the plane, having a window seat! whee , the rumble of the wheels as the plane starts taxiing down the runway, the feeling of the plane taking off, circling the airport, out over the ocean, the dawning early morning sun like a smile and a promise of a wonderful flight and vacation. ^_^
I should just go live in an airport ... or maybe be a stewardess whee There have been times in the past when I seriously considered being a stewardess just because I love airports, airplanes, and flying so much! heart My heart is ever in the sky ... heart

What do you all like about traveling? Do you like the journey? Do you prefer to travel by plane, train, automobile, ship, (or via some other method)?

Traveling is an adventure! I'm never so happy as when I'm enjoying the wonders of nature and the marvels of architecture and the beauty of culture. There are so many incredible things to see and hear and touch and absorb! Once, while driving through the Rocky Mountains, I was gazing up at the peaks. The song that came onto my iPod at that point has ever struck me as the perfect set of words for how such amazing majesty made me feel.
"...I feel myself surrender each time I see your face I am captured by your beauty, your unassuming grace And I feel my heart is turning, falling into place..."
I very much love traveling by plane! The view of the clouds and the horizon is simply awe-inspiring. I've never felt so at home than in the sky. If I didn't require corrected vision, I would have loved to be a pilot, but alas, some things are not meant to be.

I had a similar experience with the Rocky Mountains. ^^ It was on my first trip to Japan, we were flying from Edmonton over to Vancouver and track 6 on my See Saw album came on (I unfortunately don't recall the name) and it was just a perfect moment.
I like to travel by airplane, yes, mostly because it's the fastest way. I'm a little frightened by them though, even though I've grown up around them. I'm a paranoid person I guess.
Honestly though? I really would love to do a roadtrip. There aren't a lot of places in Canada or even the States that I want to see, but some of the best places are small towns that you don't even know exist. I'd love to just throw everything into my car (whenever I get one anyway. sweatdrop ) and see where the road takes me.
That said, part of my love of traveling is the journey. It's just something so different from everyday life. Then once I get to my destination I love to walk around and explore. Experience the traditions as well as pop culture. I'm an inquisitive person and my thirst for knowledge is never quite sated. ^^

Roadtips are definitely the way to go if you want to see everything. 3nodding I've traveled by ship once, and I loved it! The ocean is incredible! But I don't recommend it to anyone who easily gets motion sickness. sweatdrop

I'm interested in cruises and such...only I can't swim. sweatdrop So there's an innate fear of drowning.

Really? You should learn to swim! It's an important skill to have for your own safety - and it can be really fun! ^_^

I should drag you out to Capt. Aire Lake sometime, Sel! It's really only a pond, but it's very shallow, and it would make a fantastic place to learn to swim! Or you could just float around on the air mattresses that my brother and I blow up. That's fun too! mrgreen

*laughs* Well, see... technically I did learn to swim, but I was in children's classes and really, at the time, I was much taller than most children my age. It was always too shallow for me so I had a tendency to touch bottom.
I can float and flail for a little bit. sweatdrop
Air mattresses rock!

I'm short. sad But I've learned to accept that about myself, though there are still times when I wish I was a few inches taller.

I've found that my shorter friends have an easier time going through crowds. They just zip in and out of people while I get stuck. >.<

That's definitely an advantage. mrgreen I personally like being able to walk under things, like volleyball nets and low-hanging branches without having to duck. It's also fun to be able to hide in the stupidest little places. I have a picture of that somewhere... Hmm... *goes off to find it*
