Hi! biggrin I found this really interesting web site on which people can vote for the new Seven Wonders of the World. What are the 7 places/buildings/etc. that you'd choose and why? It is a sad thing. I would have loved to see the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, but alas, I can leave it only to my imagination. However, I do believe that Ankor Wat was one of the 7 Wonders of the Ancient World, and it's still standing. Of course, it could have been replaced...
The website is very interesting, but I'm completely stuck on which one to choose! The Hagia Sophia is a marvel of architectural ingenuity, featuring the first dome to ever be placed on a square base; Chichen Itza boggles the mind with it's shadow magic during the Spring and Fall Equinoxes, not to mention the incredible accuracy of the calendar represented my its steps; the Eiffel Tower is a flawless, 3-dimensional copy of the wind resistance graph upon which it was based; the Taj Mahal is the greatest labour of love ever constructed, and its symbolism is simply breathtaking; the Acropolis and its dedication to proportion is the very embodiment of the Golden Mean, and the one place in the world where you can never approach a building at 90 degrees; the Roman Colosseum is the most famous amphitheater ever built, designed even to flood the arena for mock sea battles; Easter Island and Stonehenge are both mysteries that have bewildered humans since their discovery! Oh, what to choose!
I must say, I cannot choose the Statue of Liberty, simply because it is a big bronze statue that was a gift from France. I cannot choose the Sydney Opera House because it was designed without concern of acoustics (silly for a theater, no?). I cannot choose the Great Wall of China because, although it is indeed great, it was not foolproof.
If anything, I think I should choose the Pyramids of Giza, for not only have they already been named a Wonder of the World, they have stood the test of time and are a representation of the planets very first architects.

I think that also another new 7 wonders list should be made: The 7 Natural (Non Man-Made) Wonders of the World.
For that ... *ponders* ... I would choose:
the Grand Canyon
the Great Barrier Reef
Mt. Everest
the Marianas (spelling?) Trench
....
and others

Uluru would have to be there. It was so, SO damn unlikely in how it was made that its crazy it exists. It would have to be there, a natural phenomemon.

Do you think the reason why we have all these natrual accidents, (E.x Hurricans,Torrnadoes, Whirlpools,etc.) Not only if the tempatures is right and other scientific facts..but mother nature is destroying things, as a sign that we should treat the natrual world as we treat ourselves? I believe that there is a island out there that will be discovered and no man made structues will be made because Mother Natures powers at at here strongest because that is the only place man made stuctures have not been built?!
