Rise of The Ancient Lands

An unknown millenia ago, long before the Realms were separated as they are today, the World was united as one, as a rather beautiful and peaceful land. That is, at least, until a group of people referring to themselves as members of “The Court” came to the lands. With power almighty and abilities never seen before by the citizens, they seeked to bend all to their will. But again, and again, the people were against them. It started with the loss of their crops, and a great famine across the lands. When the people continued to revolt, The Court responded with deadly plagues to poison their lands. Once again, the people decided to revolt, and again The Court decided to further torture them to break their will. They drove men and women insane, causing father to slay son, brother to murder brother, and after all was said and done, and the once innocent people were splattered in the blood of their cherished ones, only then did they finally bend their knee to The Court. From this came an age of pain and agony, a lie of peace that forced those still living and their descendants to create monuments to these powerful entities.

As with all things, time passed, and eventually birth was given to two young men of separate families. Despite not knowing each other, destiny had already bonded the two together. Unlike their families and those before them, they were blessed with powerful abilities (what would eventually come to be known simply as “Magic”, spelled as “Magick” in the old ages). Due to being from poverty, not much is known about the past of these two men, other than their fantastic abilities to create something from nothing, and bend the world around them to their will. Although one of the men, Aeon, was not as interested in the destruction of The Court as his counterpart, Aion. Aion became obsessed with The Court, and took to finding a way to destroy them. Although it is still unknown how, he came upon a tome known as The Akashic Record, and whilst reading it, was transported into a completely different realm, where The Jack lay in wait. He attempted to enslave Aion’s mind with a strange sword, but failed, and was driven back by Aion’s abilities. Having underestimated the man, Aion took the sword with him and found his way home.

Back home, the sword spoke to Aion through some unknown form of telepathy. It told him of the destiny he was set for, and the man known as Toriyama Aeon that was meant to help him. It also told him of another sword that lie in wait by the side of The Knight, and only with it and this other sword could they defeat The Court and reclaim the lands as theirs. But, this all came at a great cost; the souls of the two men. Although it took much work in order to convince Toriyama to help him, Wesson eventually got his agreement. After this, they set off for the highest peak of the mountain in their world, and challenged The Court to a battle for their free will back. Upon their acceptance, The Knight was the first to face them. Wielding the sword he gained from The Jack, Wesson slayed him, and The Knight’s sword went to Toriyama. Next was The Jack, who was capable enough to fight the two at once, but after a battle that lasted three days and nights, he was eventually destroyed. Last was The Queen, whose battle with the two men would last for weeks. Their battle raged fiercely across the world, raising and destroying mountains, creating massive valleys and even forming new seas and rivers. But eventually even The Queen fell to the blades of the two men. The two were celebrated as Heroes and, as time passed, Wesson Aion would eventually come to be known as “Archon” and Toriyama Aeon would come to be known as “Apostasia”.

Rule of Fredlig Enhet

The two men, after becoming Heroes, would shortly after come to be rulers. Under them, they created two separate kingdoms; Wesson took the west and Toriyama took the east. After countless years, the world was finally recovering, and would eventually be led to unification as the two “brothers” joined their kingdoms. Under their rule, rebuilding efforts appeared to take only mere weeks, as their magic had become so powerful now that it seemed the world around them was bending itself to their will. But of course, despite their longevity, the brothers were not immortal, and knew death would eventually come for them. Over the course of a thousand years of peace, the two men bore many descendants that carried their power and bloodline. These children were meant to be beacons of hope, to help Fredlig Enhet in its venture of peace and unification.

As time went on, more locations were created and discovered. The remnants of The Old World still thrive in Somnidei to this day, although they’re not as great or mighty as they once were. The Forgotten Lands are the ebay example of this. Once a great and mighty civilization that was created by a branch of priests and monks looking to find peace in other lands, they found there seemed to be a powerful and divine presence here, and as such they came here to serve as a light of another civilization existing outside the two kingdoms with their rulers’ blessings. Although when Hollow cast a sword upon this land, it was turned to ash and forgotten, with now only remnants of this ancient civilization being the only proof anyone was once here.

There was also once an evil, yet powerful Necromancer that threatened the peace of Fredlig Enhet, who was cast from both kingdoms due to his creation of powerful creatures called “Senshi”. Powerful, colossal (roughly ten feet tall), armor clad beings formed from the reanimated bodies of fallen warriors. With magic flowing through their once dead veins, they’re a force to be reckoned with, and aren’t to be taken lightly. Although they only know lightning magic, they use it at the level of a Demigod. For a while, they were a scourge against Fredlig Enhet and its peace, and were presumably completely wiped out back then.

Over time, Fredlig Enhet became an incredibly powerful kingdom, once separated as two separate kingdoms eventually becoming one. But over time, things began to go wrong. The children of Wesson and Toriyama thought themselves to be much more important than they were, as they wielded the magic of their fathers. Due to the peace of Fredlig Enhet that Wesson and Toriyama brought, their children has no enemies to vanquish. As such, they instead took to terrorizing the villagers of the Western and Eastern Kingdoms instead, giving themselves the title of “Heroes” in place of their fathers. Normally, the two would be able to step in to stop this. But with their bodies and minds decaying due to their battle against The Court and being tainted with their darkness, the decay became too much for them. This is where all accounts on them seem to end. Many believe they're walking corpses, still roaming the lands. Others believe they either died in their sleep or were murdered by their children. There appear to be no concrete answers.

Fall of The Kingdom

When the Kings vanished, Fredlig Enhet descended into chaos. Three quarters of the population were either slain in the succession wars that followed or died of disease/starvation. Meanwhile, the two king's many descendants vied for power. These new rulers were not as kind or wise as the first. Each new Ruler, fearful of a coup, brought fresh tyranny to Fredlig Enhet. A massive wall was constructed around the city, to keep citizens in and beasts, as well as undesirables, out. The Ruler's personal guard, who were encased in armor from birth, enforced their harsh decrees: no citizens were allowed out after nightfall, every citizen must appear when an alarm bell sounded, and any who opposed the Ruler's rule were killed along with their families. The people witnessed these cruelties from behind masks that signaled their status while concealing their fear. When the Kingdom had grown to its greatest extent, the Ruler of the time demanded that an immense tower be built to focus Magick.

It was the construction of this tower (known in few ancient descriptions as “Tower of The Heavens”) and its purpose of channeling Magick that The Court, in all of its glory, were able to find their way into this world. It was the creation of The Tower that was the starting point of The Great War. As the world was laid bare for The Court to attack and rule over, the final Ruler of Fredlig Enhet, and The Ancient Lands as a whole, made his way to the top of the tower. As Titans attempted to fight The Court before being turned against each other, he continued to climb, no one paying him any mind as, to him, he was naught but an insect. But it was this thought that would be the downfall of The Court, and victory over them as a whole. Reaching the room at the top, with all of the Magick of the world being channeled within The Tower at this one time, he was allowed to make one, limitless wish. Now… what this wish was, no one knows for certain. It was around the same time as this wish that the world of Fredlig Enhent was split, and at the same time, the skies shone a brilliant white, temporarily blinding all that would see it.

And then… everything vanished. The Ancient Lands was no more, and The Court was gone from Reality. Unknown to many, this is how The Great War truly ended. With one limitless wish, The Ruler of The Ancient Lands wished for The Court to be destroyed. With this, the era of The Ancient Lands came to an end.

Legacy

In the current age, the world has slowly deteriorated from the days of The Ancient Lands. Most people live in various countries that are scattered across the worlds. The lands outside these cities are plagued by banditry and vicious creatures. Normal people who travel through the countryside are regularly killed by these forces, with some hiring mercenaries or adventurers to protect them. The infrastructure of walls and roads built during The Ancient Lands has gradually collapsed.

By this time, only fragments of The Ancient Lands remained. Most of them go unnamed, and many appear to be hidden away, never to be seen by the eyes of those who have forgotten of The Ancient Lands. It's believed that there exists an artifact, which has kept a record of everything that happened from the beginning of The Ancient Lands to the present. An artifact which also appears to be able to tell the past, present and future.

But, many believe all of this to be nothing but a myth. That no such "Ancient Lands" ever existed, and it was made up in the mind of either a literary genius, or an absolute madman attempting to find reasoning for the strange ruins that are scattered throughout the worlds and Realms to this day. Ruins which, despite many believing the Realms have always been separate, have too much in common to not have been from the same era. The worlds may never know.
