White yarn, yellow/gold yarn, black yarn
Size E hook
Tapestry Needle for weaving in ends
2 Buttons(Optional) for eyes.
Scissors
Stitch marker
PATTERN
Make two of these; one in black and one in white.
Ch 3, slst into first ch.
OR
If you want your work to be a bit tighter in the beginning, you can start with the Magic Ring instead of the Ch 3 instructions. Following the instructions in the video, you would have 6 sc in the magic ring, but you need 12 for Round 1. {I tried it putting 12 sc into the ring, but it was a bit too close for me.} So to give yourself some room to work you would begin with the six sc in the magic ring, place the stitch marker in the first sc, then put 2 sc into each sc on the ring to make 12 sc as in Round 1. Also, don't forget to move up your marker in the first sc of your beginning 12. I hope this doesn't confuse anyone. If you'd rather use the Ch 3 method above, it's fine. I didn't and I wanted to include instructions for that.
Round 1 : 12 sc into ring.
Round 2 : Sc into first sc, place marker in sc you just made, sc into same stitch as the marker, 2 sc into each of the remaining 11 stitches. =24 sc
Round 3 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into remaining stitches.= 24 sc
Round 4 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into same stitch, *1 sc, 2sc* repeat from (*) around to last stitch. 1 sc in last stitch. = 36 sc
Round 5 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into each stitch around. = 36 sc
Round 6 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into same stitch, *(1 sc into next stitch)2, 2 sc into next stitch*, repeat from (*) around to last two stitches, 1 sc in each of the remaining stitches. = 48 sc
Round 7 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into each stitch around. = 48 sc
Round 8 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into same stitch, *(1 sc into next stitch)3, 2 sc into next stitch*, repeat from (*) around to last three stitches. 1 sc in each of the remaining stitches. = 60 sc
Round 9 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into each stitch around. = 60 sc
Round 10 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into same stitch, *(1 sc into next stitch)4, 2 sc into next stitch*, repeat from (*) around to last four stitches. 1 sc in each remaining stitch. = 72 sc.
Round 11 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into each stitch around. = 72 sc
Round 12 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into same stitch, *(1 sc into next stitch)5, 2 sc into next stitch*, repeat from (*) around to last five stitches. 1 sc in each remaining stitch. = 84 sc
Round 13 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into each stitch around. = 84 sc
Round 14 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into same stitch, *(1 sc into next stitch)6, 2 sc into next stitch*, repeat from (*) around to last six stitches. 1 sc in each remaining stitch. = 96 sc
Round 15 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into each stitch around. = 96 sc
Round 16 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into same stitch, *(1 sc into next stitch)7, 2 sc into next stitch*, repeat from (*) around to last seven stitches. 1 sc in each remaining stitch. = 108 sc
Round 17 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into each stitch around. = 108 sc
Round 18 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into same stitch, *(1 sc into next stitch)8, 2 sc into next stitch*, repeat from (*) around to last eight stitches. 1 sc in each remaining stitch. = 120 sc
Round 19 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into each stitch around. =120 sc
Round 20 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into same stitch, *(1 sc into next stitch)9, 2 sc into next stitch*, repeat from (*) around to last nine stitches. 1 sc in each remaining stitch. = 132 sc
Round 21 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into each stitch around. =132 sc
Round 22 : Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into same stitch, *(1 sc into next stitch)10, 2 sc into next stitch*, repeat from (*) around to last ten stitches. 1 sc in each remaining stitch. = 144 sc
Rounds 23-25(Sc into beginning sc, replace marker, sc into each stitch around.) Repeat this pattern for the remaining rows. = 144 sc in each round
Slip stitch in marked stitch. Finish off.
Whip stitch sides together, leave an opening big enough for your hand to reach inside, turn inside out. This will be the bottom of the pillow.
If you're adding buttons leave it open for sewing them on.
Beak: With black, chain 35. Sc into 2nd ch from hook, sc into each chain to end. =34 sc
(Turn, skip 1st stitch, sc into 2nd stitch and each stitch to end of row.) Repeat () until there are 10 sc on the row. Fasten off.
Attach yellow or gold yarn in 1st sc, ch1, sc across in each stitch.
(Turn work. Skip first stitch, sc into 2nd sc and in each stitch to end of row.) Repeat () until there are 2 sc on the row. Sew in ends.
Line up the beak with the top of the pillow making sure that the beak is flat as you sew it throughout. Sew(whip stitch) the beak across the top of the pillow into the black stitches of the back of the pillow and then into the wide end of the beak across until it is secure.
Continue slip stitching around the side of the beak, securing each row. When you get to the yellow section of the beak you can change to a yellow to blend the colors a little better. Then when you get around to the black change back to black yarn to finish sewing on the beak. Tie the two ends of yarn together and sew them in.
Eye (Make 2)
Or you could use buttons for the eyes.
With Black, ch 4, 12 dc in first ch, slst to top of chain. Finish off and weave in ends
Place your buttons or eyes on the pillow to see where you want to place them, then secure them to the pillow. Tie off.
I noticed that faolan designed her own flippers. She didn't give me a pattern for those. If you want to make those instead, you might want to ask her about them.
Flipper (make 2): With Black, Ch 20, sc into 2nd ch from hook, sc across.
Ch 1, turn, sc into same stitch as ch 1, sc across to last 2 stitches, work a sc decrease over the last 2 stitches. Instructions for a sc dec = go into 1st sc, pull up a loop, go into 2nd sc, pull up a loop(3 loops on hook), yarn over and pull through all loops on hook.
Turn work, skip 1st stitch, sc into 2nd stitch, 1 sc into each stitch across.
Ch 1, turn, sc into same stitch as ch 1, sc across to last 2 stitches, work a sc decrease over the last 2 stitches.
Turn work, skip 1st stitch, sc into 2nd stitch, 1 sc into each stitch across.
Ch 1, turn, sc into same stitch as ch 1, sc across to last 2 stitches, work a sc decrease over the last 2 stitches.
Turn work, skip 1st stitch, sc into 2nd stitch, 1 sc into each stitch across.
Leave a long tail for sewing. Finish off.
Place flippers onto pillow lining up the flat edge with the side of the pillow and decide your placement. Whip Stitch it to the edge of the pillow. After it is secure angle the flipper as you would like it to look. Whip stitch all the way around the flipper holding it into place as you sew. Do the same thing for the second flipper. Make sure that it matches the first flipper exactly.
Finish stuffing your project and close up the opening.

Feet (make 2): With yellow or gold, begin with Magic Ring.

2 DC in each HDC, ch 1, turn
HDC in the same stitch, 2 DC in the next 4, HDC, ch 1, turn
SC in next stitch, picot (ch 2, sl st in first ch), [SC in next three, picot] twice, SC, sl st in the last stitch.
3 HDC in magic ring, ch 2, turn
2 DC in each HDC, ch 1, turn
HDC in the same stitch, 2 DC in the next 4, HDC, ch 1, turn
SC in next stitch, picot (ch 2, sl st in first ch), [SC in next three, picot] twice, SC, sl st in the last stitch.
Feet (make 2): With yellow or gold, Ch 4, 11 dc into the 1st ch.
Ch 2, turn (do NOT join), dc into same stitch as the ch 2, 2 dc into each stitch all the way around. Fasten off.
Sew one end through the half round center and back again to make it tight and closed off.
Make pillow flat on the bottom to line up the feet side by side where the beak will line up between the feet. Sew the two feet on along the seam of the pillow, then around them. Tuck in ends.
