DANCE CLASS

User ImageUser Image
Welcome my name is Chase Devonshire, and I will be your dance professor. If you would like to know my credentials to teach this class, then ask me. For now, I will assume that you do not care and only wish to learn the art I have come to know and love personally. In the same line of thought, I don't have a deep interest in what brought you to my class room. Every has their reasons for taking a class, I don't want to listen to your sob story, your dreams. This is not a television show. I do care though that you give your all to this class. There is no other work you should be doing here, this is not a study period. If you arrive early, you should be prepping, stretches and the like. If you wish to mingle late with class mates that is fine. Unless I need to lock up the studio then you should probably leave.

Everyone is at a different level when they start the class. But this is not a class separated by grade, but by skill. The first week of class is purely set for me to find out how you work, how you move. When I understand your style and where you need to improve, then everyone will be put where needed. If you desire to change, or a specific style of dance let me know. Or a tutorship or private lessons. They are offered but please let me know a reason you desire a one on one with me before assuming you will get one.

Come to class prepared to move. I will not teach you the history of dance unless I find it truly important to the style. I may give in a fact or two, but you will never find yourself needing to take notes. Come in comfortable clothes and shoes appropriate to dance in. Unless told by me, I do not want to see any hooker heels. This is not a class for you to show off your flirtatious, pardon me, but your wh*rish qualities. You can do that in the clubs and while not wasting my time. Like I said, take this class seriously or get out.

Rules

Do your best to be on time
If I see any fighting in class you will be given detention and or banned from the class depending on the seriousness of it
Respect me as well as your classmates
If the classroom is locked, that means no one is allowed in without permission
Take class seriously, if you're not serious about it then don't bother coming
Listen. Watch. Learn.

The apartment of Professor Chase Devonshire was filled with the moonlight as it streamed through his open windows. A call had come telling him that the art class had gotten out early. Meaning there was no reason anyone from that class should be late to his. Although it did not mean he would start early. The lounged, relaxed on his sofa and watching his flat-screen, a glass of red wine mixed with blood in one hand. The other arm was laid lazily over the shoulder of a beautiful woman he could only just remember the name of. They had met on the town earlier that night. He had been on a little trip out, looking for possibly the last night of enjoyment he would have before classes started again. Angelia had been close to the same. Neither had been interest in much more than a one night stand. And she had been more than intrigued by the thought of being the company of a vampire.

"You should no doubt be turning to leave to your class." Angelia murmured, eyes closed with her head on Chase's shoulder. The vampire chuckled and sipped from his glass. "No doubt, but that would require me to leave the beauty of your presence." He finished the statement with a kiss to her jawline. A smile fleeted over her lips as well, opened her bright green eyes and staring up at him. She straightened, sitting up away from him and sighing as he back cracked and muscles stretched. "True as that may be, I need to get going as well." She reminded him. She was a student at a college near by, surprisingly earning a degree that had nothing to do with being an actress or movies. Even though she would be lovely on camera, he assumed. Rather she was learning sculpting and a few other arts. "If that is your wish." He obliged, setting his wine down and standing, holding a hand down to her. She took it and he pulled her up and smoothly into a farewell kiss. "I wish you the best with your degree." Chase said with a step away and she began collecting her purse and shoes. "And you with your students." And with that she was gone and he was readying himself for the rest of the night.

The door to the room that had been, was, and would be the floor where many feet expressed an artful passion opened with a click. Through it walked an almost bored looking professor who turned on the lights with a quick flip of the switch. Chase narrowed his eyes in at the small amount of dust he saw floating about the room and walked to the back corner where a small supply closet was. His reflection moved along with him, the image of his white t-shirt and black khakis looking almost too casual for the ballroom dances he preformed. But over the years the vampire had found this was easily one of the most comfortable outfits he could wear while dancing that did not involve sweats. Honestly he hated sweat pants, and only wore them if he had no other option. If his students wore them, there was not much he could do, unless they were dragging about, then he could send them out to change.

I swear to god if I see one set of short shorts and a push up bra I am going to snarl at them. Chase thought, past experiences with students coming to mind as he opened the supply closet. He set down the coffee thermos on the inside on one of the shelves and took out the music player. It was a decent player, a small Bluetooth speaker that synced with his phone and only his. Something he had purchased almost as soon as he saw that the school had none in the beginning. Turning his phone and the player on he selected an orchestral song that was not terribly dull. Although his taste was more modern, this was not a bad choice as he took out the dust mop and started around the floor. His movements were obviously practiced, a slight mix between a waltz and a little bit of hip hop. Something easily done solo or with a partner. The soft squeak of his dress shoes was lost to the music being played. And he was trying not to loose himself to the steps.

When he was all done and satisfied with the cleaning, Chase pushed the dust mop back to the closet and inside. There he took his coffee into his hand and pulled his phone out of his pocket. While sipping he looked over the list of his students he had on his iPhone. If he was correct, a few of them he had seen if not met before. But that did not always mean anything. Who you were in every day was completely different from who you were while dancing. He was a prime example of that. Still he could make a few guesses about his students. While he had gotten sign up forms during registration, he was pleased to find a few had requested being placed in specific levels of dance. Meaning previous knowledge and skill. Which meant he would watch them to see if they had what it took to be in their requested levels. Sure maybe he would push them a little harder, but he was good at being able to tell if they weren't giving it their all.

With a sigh of resolve he slipped his phone back into his pocket, not before pausing the music. Once he set down his coffee once again he leaned back against one of the floor length mirrors and watched the door. The early arrivals, if there were any, would be getting there soon. It was about fifteen minutes before class started.

Reine Yves

Reine returned to her dorm room long enough to dress in a plain, black skirt that swirled out when she turned fast enough. It fell just below her knee, a comfortable length for practice. She picked up a new shoulder bag and placed her ballroom heels in it, putting on ballet flats for the walk to the studio. She took a scarf on her way out, shivering as she made her way back to where she more or less guessed the studio was. In her mind she carefully revised the list of rules, knowing that she’ll need to start stretching and warmup her muscles.

At a brisk pace she arrived at the studio, smiling slightly as her cheeks warmed. She knew she was early, but it didn’t bother her. It wasn’t like she had anything better to do. Might as well get an early start. Reine stepped into the studio, momentarily caught up in the shiny, polished floors and mirror, and then spotted another in the room. She froze like a deer in headlights, caught off guard in her reverie. He was obviously the instructor. Stop staring like an idiot, she thought to herself. With a small nod of acknowledgement, she leaned her hand against the wall and pulled her ballroom heels from her bag, exchanging her flats for them.

Feeling a little self-conscious, Reine moved across the room and placed her bag against the far wall, proceeding to go through a few stretches. She didn’t know if the dance teacher spoke to his students or if he was very strict, thus she adopted her go to approach when dealing with those who held a superior position to hers; speak when spoken to. Soon enough, her muscles weren’t that tense anymore and she felt a little more nimble and graceful in her movements.
