The Relief Squads

The Fourth Division is regarded by those in the Gotei 13 to be the most organized division out of the 13 Court Guard Squads. Being that this division needs to offer medical assistance to those in need on the battlefield, being rapid and orderly in response is key, and strict discipline along with organization has always been key for division members. The Division is further divided accordingly into Advanced Relief Squads. A total of 24 Relief Squads exist, and these Squads include those members of the Sword and Shield Initiative.

The Beta Relief Squad

The Beta Relief Squad is one of the entry level relief teams in the Fourth Division. A total of 22 members are in this division, and is one of the entry level Squads for the newer members of the S&S Initiative. During times of a crisis, the Beta Relief Squad is usually one of the first of the Relief Squad's to arrive on the scene to help mostly with medical attention over anything else. It's extremely rare to see the Beta Relief Squad called in for combative purposes, as they're one of the more passive of the relief squads. The current leader of the Beta Relief Squad is Elysia Hiroshi.

The Omega Relief Squad

The Omega Relief Squad is the elite Relief Squad out of all the others inside the Fourth Division. Comprised of the twenty best members of the entire Fourth Division and the Sword and Shield Initiative. Rank does not hold any significance for the members that are in this Squad, as they are ultimately all viewed as equals by their Commanding Officer. The Omega Relief Squad has rarely been seen on the battlefield and hasn't been called out for service in over three hundred years, during the Great Ash War. As a result, many inside the Gotei 13 still don't know which members of the Fourth Division make up this Squad.
The only people who can ever call forth the Squad is the Captain of the Fourth Division, Jousake Hiroshi, and the current Captain Commander, Kokoro no Tennyou. Since it's inception, the Squad has only been seen on the battlefield twice, adding to it's already legendary reputation. The current leader of the Omega Relief Squad is Jousake Hiroshi.

The Lambda Relief Squad

The Lambda Relief Squad is one of the eight Relief Squads in the Fourth Division that doesn't have a single member of the Sword and Shield Initiative with the exception of it's Squad leader. A total of 50 division members are in this division.
They're all specialized in the art of healing. as they have a minimum of being inside the division for twenty years. The Lambda Relief Squad is almost always sent out on the battlefield alongside with the Beta Relief Squad. Like the normal members of the Fourth Division, their role is a passive one, offering medical assistance to those who need it. The current Squad Leader is Althea.

The Sigma Relief Squad

The Sigma Relief Squad is comprised of a total of 40 members. Considered by many to be the hybrid coalition of the Fourth Division, this Relief Squad is well known to be the most important of the other relief squads. The men and women that comprise this team have served in the the division for a minimum of 100 years.
The swords of this division are well respected by all members of the Gotei 13, including the members of the notorious Eleventh Division. As for the Shields, they're perhaps some of the best healers in the entire Fourth Division, as they've have over a hundred years in medical training and more importantly, being thrown into battlefield situations, which are home to some of the most gruesome injuries around. The current Squad Leader is Shu Fēng Hiroshi.

The Phi Relief Squad

The Phi Relief Squad is perhaps the oddest of all the Relief Squads. A mere twelve members are in this division. Ten of these members are women, as the other two members are the youngest male members of the Sword and Shield Initiative. Being that their current Squad Leader, Sakata Miyabi is notoriously known for her weak side towards men, Jousake Hiroshi made sure that the Squad was comprised of the best healers in the division that wouldn't prove to be a problem for Sakata. This division is comprised of some of the more experienced healers in the division, but the only member of the S&S Initiative is the Squad Leader, Sakata.

The Kappa Relief Squad

The Kappa Relief Squad is another specialized Squad assigned with a passive role unlike some of the other squads. Comprised of 42 members, the Kappa Relief Squad is another one of the more higher up Squad's inside the Fourth Division. This Squad is comprised entirely of members of the Sword and Shield Initiative. Due to this, it's not that common for the Kappa Relief Squad is called out on the battlefield. However, they are usually called in times of a severe incident that requires intensive medical assistance on the field. The current Squad Leader is Samui Rue.
