The Dos and Don'ts of Tournaments and Battles !

The next few posts are going to include what you should and shouldn't do while roleplaying in a thread made for tournaments and battles, as well as additional information you may find helpful.

The Basics !

Just as the Greeks have Capture the Flag, the Romans have war games. Known war games are Deathball, Siege, Gladiator Fighting, Chariot Racing, and mock Naval Battles. The first two are held on the Field of Mars in camp, where the entire camp is required to participate. These games are hosted in the War Games subforum found here. The Tournament and Battles subforum is dedicated to Gladiator Fighting, Chariot Racing, and the mock Naval Battles, which involve only a limited amount of characters involved directly in the action and allows spectators.

Chariot Racing is self-explanatory - campers are allowed to participate in a chariot race that has very little limitations in how the competitors gain an edge. Gladiator Fighting is between two campers alone, who are meant to fight it out to the death (or unconsciousness) in the Coliseum to a melodic wave of cheers and hisses. And finally, the mock Naval Battles are exactly what they sound like - a bunch of the campers on two or three ships trying to conquer and defend from the others' vessel. In each game, campers may earn a classic Roman military medal, which will be awarded by the praetors near the end.

You can read here the rules of how the games will be played in the guild. Please make sure to familiarize yourself with the rules, as violations can result in a guild-wide penalty regarding how the war games are played.

For Tournaments and Battles, members may make the thread for whichever game they desire and host the sign-ups. However, you must PM the Captain requesting permission to open a thread for one of the games before you actually do it. If there is a thread open that was not granted permission beforehand, it will be removed without warning.

Depending on the game and user, there may be a sign-up thread to participate in a game. The matter of being able to roleplay as a participant is completely up to the user hosting the thread, so you'll have to read their posts carefully to see if it's first come, first serve or if they'll be a bit more choosy. However, all members may post as a spectator in the thread without needing to sign-up anywhere, even if they are not part of the game itself. An announcement will be posted and sent out informing members of an upcoming game and possibly a link to a thread where you can sign up the characters you'd like to have participate. If you're roleplaying with characters in other threads, that's perfectly fine! War games are considered separate from roleplaying threads, and so you are allowed to post with a character in more than one place. Everyone's character are allowed to sign up to participate or just roleplay as a spectator, except for praetors, who will serve as referees during the games.

Once the sign up thread has been closed, the roleplaying thread will be made and another announcement will be sent out. After that, feel free to post as long as you adhere to the rules set by both the guild and the thread-maker! The crew will also have a posting limit enforced for game participants that will depend on the number of characters participating. This is so that everyone has an equal chance to post and have their characters do something. Spectators may post as much as they like. Users are allowed to post as long as it takes for a winner to be crowned, but please don't take that out of proportion: your characters will become injured. They will lose. It's not fair if you decide to keep pulling off miracles to keep your character from losing.

Once a winner is reached, members will have two weeks to wrap things up with their characters. Medals may be given out during this time if deemed appropriate by the Crew and the injured should be treated IC. A warning announcement will be sent before a Mod officially closes the thread.

Anything new added will be posted in red.

The Dos !

Use the tournaments and battles for plotting! These are excellent opportunities to forge relationships and create character development that'll really add some spice to your characters!

Play fair! These really aren't any different from playing a game in real life - no one likes someone who ruins the fun by not playing by the rules.

Make sure to read other posts thoroughly. A lot is going to be happening, so it's important to make sure you know what's going on!

Have fun! There's a lot of rules, but that's really the whole point of these things.

The Don'ts !

If you try to godmod, I may just virtually cut off your breathing. 'Nuff said.

Don't forget about the rules while roleplaying! They still exist for war games. For instance, you can't kill a person's character without multiple permissions first.

Don't ignore the posting limit or other people's posts! It's important to keep things fair and informed of what's happening with so many characters.

Don't make your own thread for a war game without requesting permission. This is really just so the Captain and Crew can stay informed of what's happening.

Anything new added will be posted in red.
