Oɴᴄᴇ Uᴘᴏɴ A Tɪᴍᴇ: • Alice was born to a Cajun Reverend and his wife in a farmhouse on the outskirts of a small Louisianna town. The birth was not an easy one, her mother having always been on the sickly side. Though she survived birthing Alice, she remained sick and was bedridden for all of her daughter's life, until she passed away when Alice was 4. Alice has no real memories of her mother, just snippets of things that stir some form of remembrance, like the scent of roses and certain melodies. She does remember the funeral, a somber occasion, and the beginning of her father's depression.
After her mother's death, the already religious man turned more and more to God, and became overly obsessed with pleasing Him in all aspects of his life. He became very strict with Alice, and began declaring many common acts of the modern youth as sinful, barring her from attending any school or spending any time with children her own age in fear that she would become corrupted. When the controversy over mutants made its way to their small town, the Reverend took a stand, declaring that any so-called 'mutants' were nothing more than devil-worshipping heathens who'd sold their souls for unnatural powers. He kept as much information from Alice as possible, not wanting the evil to taint her.
Sometime after Alice turned 12, she began to feel rather odd. Her father wrote her concerns off as puberty, until the morning she awoke and discovered she'd changed into a cat. She went to her father in fear, who attempted to bar the creature from his home until it transformed into his daughter, though she now possessed cat ears and a tail. The Reverend then accused her of welcoming the Devil into her heart and accepting a deal for her soul. She tried to reason with him, but was barred from her own home. The town, its population a mere 200+ people, many of whom attended her father's church, didn't dare help her, even if they felt for her, and turned her away whenever she would ask for help.
Alice eventually left the town and attempted to make her way on her own. She soon discovered that, in addition to being able to change into a cat, she had an unnatural agility in her human form. Unwilling to attempt to find help and have someone else slam her door in her face, she used these skills to turn to a life of thievery. By 15, she has become quite the thief, rarely bothering to actually purchase anything other than food if she thought she could steal it. She does have somewhat expensive taste when it comes to food, however, and isn't above stealing nice jewelry from a home to pawn for the money for a nice meal. Despite her skills with theft, she keeps her takes small so she doesn't get caught, too small to afford a living space. She sleeps wherever she can find, occasionally in cat form if she can't find anything comfortable enough for her human self. She travels almost non-stop, usually taking buses and trains to get to her next destination. She eventually grew to hate her 'human' name because of her father, she took on the name Bastet, for the Egyptian cat goddess.
Uɴᴅᴇʀ Tʜɪs Mᴀsᴋ: • Bastet hates to be associated with her human life, and generally acts like she was born on the street as a mutant, proud of her unnaturalness and justifying her crimes. She also is rather anti-social due to the feeling of betrayal from when her father turned against her. However, she is the consummate thief, and is just as likely to strike up a conversation to pick someone's pocket as she is to attempt breaking into their house. Her one and only hobby is research. She enjoys going to the library (the only place she never commits a single crime so that she won't be kicked out) and reads, non-stop, mostly on cats, though she has a secret soft spot for romance novels, especially the paranormal sort. She'll never admit it, but it's mostly because she wonders if anyone could ever accept her the way the people in the books seem to be able to accept vampires, werewolves and the like. She desperately wants to be loved.

Wʜᴀᴛ Mᴀᴋᴇs Mᴇ Sᴘᴇᴄɪᴀʟ: • Bastet cuts her own hair, so it's a bit haphazard. Oh, and there's the whole 'cat ears and tail' thing.
Wʜᴀᴛ Mᴀᴋᴇs Mᴇ Dɪғғᴇʀᴇɴᴛ: • Cat powers? Alice is unnaturally agile, has claw-like nails and can move silently. She also has two alternate forms, the first being that of a lynx, the second a brown house-cat. When she is in either form, she has all her mental facilities, but she can't speak to people. She can somewhat communicate with other felines.
Tʜᴏsᴇ Wʜᴏ Lᴏᴠᴇ Aʙᴀɴᴅᴏɴᴇᴅ Mᴇ: • Reverend Jacques Gautreaux, Alice's father.
