The lounge is open to employees on breaks and guests. The room is on the second floor with an excellent view of the entrance below. There is a large television that is always switched on to a news station. A cafe rests in the corner with free coffee and tea. The couches scattered around are made of expensive leather that match the dark stained tables.

Where do I stand?: With the OCM // Where am I?: The lounge on the second floor// What am I up to?: Taking a quick coffee break.// Who am I with?: Nobody// How am I feeling?: Appeased with coffee

Don't try to hide, because if I'm on your case...

When Samantha reached the second floor lounge, it was blessedly empty for the moment. Compared to the subdued hum of activity in the Monitor Womb, this was a much purer silence. Well, as silent as it could be with the television that was always tuned to a news station playing and the ever-present hum of the air processors whirring undercurrent to everything. Still, it was better than nothing. Oh, and there was coffee. Glorious coffee. After getting herself a generous cup of the caffeine-filled beverage (two creams, extra sugar), Samantha sat down at the left end of one of the leather couches scattered around the room. Everything looked rather... rich. Rather expensive. The Organization certainly spared no expense when they put this place together. Everything from the furniture to the equipment, even the bathrooms formed a coherent message of money, power, efficiency, and control. To those who were occasionally given a tour of the facility, this was presented in a positive light. The Organization was doing all it could to present the image of mutant rehabilitation. For those that worked there, however... Samantha could feel the darker edge of things, and she knew that she didn't even know all the secrets this Organization contained. Net yet, at any rate.

Checking her watch, Samantha pulled a small, worn paperback copy of Watership Down from her messenger bag, which had been read so many times that the cover had long ago fallen off. That first sip of coffee was absolutely heavenly. Armed with her coffee and her book, she settled back into the couch cushions and flipped open to the bookmark. She crossed her right leg over her left, using her knee to prop up the book, flipping pages as she went. Her left arm rested on the arm of the couch, coffee in hand. She didn't plan to take too long a break, but she would make the most of it. It was usually easier to come up with new ideas after taking a mental break from whatever situation was the center of intense focus. Maybe reading about rabbits would help her find a new way to track down mutants. Samantha chuckled to herself at the thought.

If she could get ahold of individual mutant files, she might be able to trace back through their families, see if any of them were wrapped in odd circumstances. If she could actually speak to them, she might be able to find out if any of these mutants had associated with other mutants before getting captured. Samantha knew enough about the facility to know that they did their best to sway the mutants to their side, giving them some homey comforts in their cells in an attempt to show that the Organization wasn't "evil." If she could spin it that they were only looking for other mutants that were potentially a danger to themselves and to others, some of the mutants might be a little more willing to cooperate. Might, being the key world. It was a more humane option than the others available in the facility, that was for sure...

Scientist of the OCM

I WILL find a cure for Elizabeth....

Once Darian entered the employee lounge, he immediately saw a woman he recognized as a Department 4 grunt sitting down near a table drinking coffee. Luckily there was nobody else in the lounge and she was reading a book, so the only thing standing to distract him was the TV which he had long since mastered ignoring. Not paying the professionally dressed woman anymore attention, Darian dropped his files on the table near her before walking over to the café and looking at the various flavors of tea.

After several moments of deliberation, he finally grabbed a box of mango tea, the small honey pitcher, and a tea ball from one of the cupboards. He then filled a cup with boiling water from a tap before scooping some of the tea leaves into a tea ball and putting it in, mixing in a generous amount of honey to finish the drink. When his tea was fully put together, he replaced the small honey pitcher and box of tea before walking back to his table. On his way he noticed the woman quickly lean back in her chair after looking at his files. "Well aren't we curious?"

Once there he flipped open the first of five files and began reading. "Abigale Marie Burton. Age: 18, Birthday August: 25th Blood Type: AB+ Parents divorced, stayed with her father in Boston and apparently ran from home. Siblings: One younger brother Jeremy Burtan Powers: Control of own shadow. More data needed. Height: 5' 4" Was in and out of hospitals for most of her junior and senior year and several exorcisms were conducted on her person. This is believed to mark the advent of her powers becoming known by family. She was in a state of malnutrition when found and has been for a long time according to medical records. Cause of this is unknown but possibly due to stress or a strain from her mutant ability." After reading the basics he said "If you're so curious about the files why not ask me about them? You ARE in the information gathering department that they came from after all." without bothering to look up at the woman with her coffee.

...no matter the cost.

Where do I stand?: With the OCM // Where am I?: The lounge on the second floor// What am I up to?: Taking a coffee break and being nosy // Who am I with?: A coworker, probably from the R&D department. // How am I feeling?: Appeased with coffee, and curious

Don't try to hide, because if I'm on your case...

Somewhere amidst the book-reading and the pondering, another employee walked into the lounge. Samantha snapped back into focus at the sound of the files landing on the coffee table, instantly intrigued. She took a sip of her coffee while she contemplated the folders. When the man in the lab coat made his way over to the café for... well, it looked like he was going for the mango tea, Samantha leaned forward to see the labels on the files. They were names... and Cell Block designations. Blinking in surprise, Samantha thought for a crazy moment that this man had somehow read her thoughts and fulfilled her wish to see the mutant files, but she knew that was preposterous. It was just a lucky break, and not even that lucky because these files were not here for her perusal. This man was obviously just taking a break from whatever project he was working on - probably Department 3, from his attire - and wanted to do a little work while on said break. He'd probably been here for a while too, having the pull to carry files like these into a public space like the lounge. Everyone had access to it.

He probably knew that no one would dare openly poke through confidential files like this though, and as curious as Samantha was, she wasn't about to pick them up. Even though she did have the same security clearance... Still. When he returned with his tea, she leaned back against the couch cushions again, sipping her coffee and contemplating. She knew he'd seen her move. She knew he knew she was curious, but he didn't say anything. He just sat down with his tea and started reading through one of the files. It had been the one on the top of the pile: one Abigale Marie Burtan. Oh, Samantha was just itching with curiosity now. If she had the same security clearance, surely there was no harm in asking? Unless security levels stopped at Department division. He might still refuse, but then at least she'd have tried.

"If you're so curious about the files, why not ask me about them? You ARE in the information gathering department they came from after all." After a few minutes of reading through the file, the man made the decision for her when he spoke to her. Huffing softly in amusement, she swirled what remained of her coffee around in its cup. "Where to start?" she asked with a slight chuckle. One thing she had always hated about being the new person on the job was not knowing where the boundary lines were. Conversely, she'd never had a problem with pushing and testing until she'd found every boundary line. "Has the mutant gene been isolated? Or does the gene vary from mutant to mutant, depending on their powers? I thought I'd read something about the Mutant Gene being some sort of recessive trait that can sometimes skip generations. Obviously, I'm not a scientist, but could it be genetically tracked through bloodlines?" It wasn't exactly a question about the files in his hands, but it was a question she would like to know the answer to. His statement about the information coming from her department in the first place gave her hope that she'd have access to them. She just had to know who to ask and where to go, and that kind of information would be easy enough to obtain.

...I will find you.

I WILL find a cure for Elizabeth....

As the woman asked her question, a rather simple one if unexpected, Darian flipped through the rest of Abigale's file. The rest of it was simply filled with medical records, a record of her educational history, a transcript of one of the exorcisms done to her, and a preliminary psychological profile put together from second hand information. The psychological profile would eventually be replaced with a more thorough one once someone from Department 4 was able to sit down and evaluate her. With nothing more left to glean from the file for now, Darian closed it and moved it to the bottom of the pile.

"I'm surprised you'd ask me a question who's answer was so easily found with a little research." he said as he picked up the next file and read the name of Jared Attor on the front. Opening it, he continued by explaining "The mutant gene has indeed been isolated, to an extent. We know the gene that all mutants have in common, but we don't yet know how it interacts with other genes to cause a mutation. The theory is that that's how the form of the mutation is determined, but we aren't sure. Some people in a family can have radically different mutations while others have incredibly similar ones that might manifest in slightly different ways with different levels of power. And yes, in theory it is traceable. But you are talking about something that might go a hundred years between two cases of it showing up in a bloodline. Not the easiest thing to follow."

At this point, Darian waited to see what the woman's eventual second question would be while he read through Jared's file. "Age: 15 Birthday: June 10th Blood Type: A- Parents kicked him out at the age of thirteen when his mutation began to manifest itself. They lived in Hallandale, Florida and he was picked up in Norland, Florida. Siblings: None. Mutation seems to be slowly turning him into some kind of reptile. He has gained a reptilian eye and is constantly shedding skin. More observation needed before full extent of mutation will be known. Height: 5" 7' No outstanding health issues or noteworthy events." As with Abigale's file, the rest of the folder was filled with medical records, school records, and Jared's preliminary psychological profile.

...no matter the cost.

Don't try to hide, because if I'm on your case...

Samantha shrugged at the man's comment. "As it's a rather controversial topic at the moment, it's hard to find a report that is unbiased, and quite a few pieces done on mutant genetics have been taken down after some protests over their publication turned rather violent. Mutants and non-mutants alike seem to fear the potential outcomes of such knowledge being shared. Since you work more closely with the subjects in question, I thought it was worth at least asking." The rest of what he had to say was both useful and entirely unhelpful. Knowing what gene to look for was all well and good, but with little understanding to how it interacted with the other genes, tracking it through families would most certainly make things difficult, especially with such wide gaps noted between the gene's appearances. It was still a potential tracing method however. Perhaps she should see if she could talk to someone in Department 2. She knew they took samples of the mutants' blood to work with as they searched for a cure. Maybe someone there would have a better insight into the situation.

Even if they could somehow contact the families of the mutants here... posing as doctors from the nearby hospital, even, asking for the family's medical history while they treat the missing son or daughter, that might get them somewhere. Samantha just wanted to find a more direct approach to finding mutants than vaguely watching news stations and weather maps on the occasion that a mutant slipped up and made him or herself noticeable. She knew that she was essentially grasping at straws, but what else was she supposed to do besides look for any new and potentially better way for tracking down mutants? Short of becoming a master hacker - a skill that, admittedly, she was slowly but surely working at with some success - there had to be a better way of getting information.
"I'd imagine those psych evals aren't very comprehensive," she said, nodding to the files in the man's hand. Might as well poke around to see if her idea of talking to the mutants themselves would be viable. "I don't know if that would help you with your work, but what kind of information would be more useful to your department?" She could ask her own supervisor about interviewing individual mutants, but she knew that the work that Department 3 did was supposed to be invaluable to the capture of mutants. While she was digging around for information... she might as well see in what other ways she could help. "Since, as you pointed out, those files do come from my department, what areas should be focused on with more intensity?"

It occurred to her that at some point, they should probably properly introduce themselves, but as she glanced at her watch, she decided that the questions were more important at this exact moment. She should head back to her computer after he answered her question. Samantha was aware that it might come off as… toadying, slightly… to this Department 3 technician, and perhaps she was, a bit… but as long as they were all working towards tracking and capturing mutants, surely a little more inter-office communication couldn’t hurt.

...I will find you.
