The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in the United States in the state of Arizona. It is contained within and managed by Grand Canyon National Park, the Hualapai Tribal Nation, and the Havasupai Tribe. President Theodore Roosevelt was a major proponent of preservation of the Grand Canyon area, and visited it on numerous occasions to hunt and enjoy the scenery. It is considered one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.

Jeremy BurtanHopper ~Remy~ Where do I stand?: Unaffiliated // Where am I?: Grand freakin' Canyon // What am I up to?: Admiring nature in all its glory // Who am I with?: Mother dearest // How am I feeling?: Angry and dissappointed If no one will help me find my sister...The view from the Mather's Point viewing platform was, in a word, breathtaking. The sheer beauty of the landscape, the earth carved by wind and water for centuries into the sprawling canyon it was now, inspired a deep sense of awe. Even in the 16-year-old who would rather have been anywhere but there. Jeremy leaned against the railing, his weight supported on his forearms. Despite the hot sun beating down on that clear day, he was wearing long sleeves, a vest, and gray cargo pants that could be shortened at the knee via zippers. The logic behind the wardrobe choice being that he hadn't planned on being stuck out in the sun like this on this particular day. It was a subtle act of rebellion, because he was supposed to be at home, hanging out with his friends from school. Instead..."Tell me again, why we're at the Grand Canyon?" Jeremy's tone was careful and in no way accusatory while still managing to sound highly suspicious. He turned his head to look at his mother, who was snapping pictures with both her phone and her actual camera like she would never have a chance like this again. Even though this was, in fact, their third trip to the Grand Canyon in his lifetime. She didn't seem to have heard him over her own Oo's and Ah's. At least someone was having a good time. "Mom. Mother. Mom." Jeremy sighed out of the corner of his mouth. "Audrey.""Jeremy! Is that how you refer to your mother?""You weren't listening before.""Oh, well, sorry then. What did you say, honey?"From her tone of voice and the way she was doing that thing where she attempted to tuck her short, flyaway blonde hair behind her ear, Jeremy knew she had, in fact, heard him the first time but had chosen not to answer. The frustration simmering just under his skin began to boil just a bit hotter. "Why. Are. We. Here?" Audrey continued to look out over the landscape for a moment longer, but now she was very still. She let out a deep breath, and Jeremy knew that he'd be getting the truth now. He also knew that he wasn't going to like it."What's the matter, sweetie? I thought you liked it here. Nothing like it back East, you know?""Yeah, mom, I know, but-""And didn't you have fun standing at the center of four states on the way here? Wasn't that exciting?""Yeah, mom, but it might've been more exciting if we hadn't already done it before." His mother looked stumped for a moment."What... what do you mean? I don't remember...""It was back when we first moved this far West. I went and stood at the spot while you talked to dad on the phone in the car? Probably fighting, like always? Probably yelling about Abby?" The line of Jeremy's shoulder tensed when he mentioned the fighting, and he had to look away from his mother when his throat tightened at the mention of his sister. He could tell that his mother was looking at him, but he had to take another moment or two to compose himself before he looked over at her. When he did, he almost immediately regretted it. She looked old, tired, weary. Sad. He looked away again."I'm so sorry, sweetie. I am. I... I just want us to have a happy home. Somewhere... somewhere safe, you know? Scottsdale sounds safe-""Scottsdale?""Yes. Scottsdale... it sounds nice, by all accounts."Jeremy lowered his head, his shoulders hunched. He wondered who had told his mother that Scottsdale, Arizona was a nice, safe place. Probably no one. This was probably just another case of wanderlust. He had no idea what his mother was looking for. He really didn't. And he was tired of it. "Are... are we running away from dad?" Audrey looked surprised and shook her head vehemently."Oh no! No no no! No, I just thought it would be good to move again, and, maybe this time it'll be better." She tried to give him a warm smile. "I might already have a job lined up, if that helps. I called the local newspaper to ask a few questions, and one of their editors is retiring.""That's... that's great mom. It's just that..." Jeremy's head sank further, and he hugged his arms tighter to himself. "The last time I heard from Abby, she knew we lived in Denver. If we move again..." Audrey's expression softened, and she tried to tuck her hair behind her ear again. After a few moments, she reached out her hand and rubbed Jeremy's back a few times. Then she took a step closer and wrapped her arm around his shoulders, pulling him closer."I wasn't planning on moving for another month or so, if that helps," she offered. "That way... if she is running to us, we'll still be there. For a little while, at least. Alright, sweetie?" Jeremy shrugged his shoulders, and then shrugged her arm off completely, spinning on his heel and storming off toward the parking lot and leaving his mother behind. When he reached their red Honda CR-V, he sat down on the pavement in the shade provided by the passenger's side of the car. He pulled out his cellphone first, checking for the millionth time to make sure there weren't any new messages from Abby. Still nothing. Still freakin' nothing. The next thing to come out was his iPod. Bittersweet musical oblivion was his within a few moments.... I'll just have to find her myself. And I want a moment to be real Want to touch things I don't feel Wanna hold on and feel I belong

Jakeline Astor Brotherhood of Mutants The Grand Canyon was a prime example of the power of nature and of how something seemingly gentle could wear away even the toughest of resistance. That's what the Brotherhood was. A small force, appearing to be nothing but a nuisance, chipping and wearing away that which already ruled the earth and when all was said and done, they would be the ones to remain or in the very least make the humans suffer an irrecoverable blow. That was what Jakeline believed. The X-men's goals were idealistic. Impossible. Jakeline ran a clawed hand through the feathers on her head as she peered down at the canyon floor. Tourists littered the bottom, walking up and down the stretch of gouged land until their feet started to hurt. Instead of pushing themselves to explore the rest of the beauty they went back and spent money on pointless trinkets.
Jakeline scoffed and pushed herself up from her sitting position. Watching the humans had become boring and it was time for her to move on. Traveling the through the canyon would provide a quick and for the most part, uninhabited trip to Las Vegas where the Brotherhood hideout was located. The feathered mutant spread her arms and felt the wind rushing through them. It was traveling the length of the canyon in a southern fashion. It would make her trip easier and the thermals that littered the Nevada terrain would keep her at a constant altitude. Jakeline edged closer to the drop off. The wind was powerful, nearly pushing her over. She shifted her weight and allowed herself to fall forward. Her wings caught the air almost immediately and soon she was gliding through the canyon. Jakeline kept her eyes sweeping the ground, watching as the odd person pointed up, wondering what type of bird she was. As she was too high to provide a reliable silhouette, no one could quite determine that it was in fact a mutant flying above them.
Jakeline, after a half hour or so of flight, stopped to rest her wings. The wind had changed dramatically and she was now using three times as much energy to get through the canyon. It almost would have been worth it to fly up and out but the scenery was something to be appreciated. She perched herself on top of a tall tower of rocks near a highly populated tourist area. There was a parking lot not too far and the forest of rock spires would giver her cover if she needed to duck out of sight. It was then that Jakeline saw a young man and what seemed to be his mother in a battle of wills, or at least it appeared that way. When the boy went stomping off to sulk like the angst filled teenager he was, Jakeline couldn't help but grin. Crouching with her arms rested on her knees, she clicked forward to the edge of the spire she stood. Soon the boy flipped through his phone and after looking disappointed, perhaps even a little angry, he submerged himself in music. Jakeline looked around, assessing the area. They were at the far end of the parking lot and not many people where passing by, those that did were busy with children or too engaged in their technology to notice what was around them. Jakeline decided to take the small risk and fly down to bother the boy. It didn't look like his day could get worse and maybe he'd appreciate the safety of a vacation and the company of his mother after dealing with a mutant. The Brotherhood member flapped her wings a few times, bringing herself down to the ground as silently as she could manage. She made her way to the boy, making sure not to cast a shadow over him until she was only a few few away. She crouched down and focused her fierce pure white gaze on him. "Poor human. It seems as though you're having a bad day.

Jeremy BurtanHopper ~Remy~ Where do I stand?: Unaffiliated // Where am I?: Grand freakin' Canyon // What am I up to?: Talking to a stranger // Who am I with?: A blue-feathered lady // How am I feeling?: Very wary, and still pretty disappointed
What am I listening to?: Vesuvius If no one will help me find my sister...Looking for something that suited his rather volatile mood, Jeremy scrolled through his song list until he hit Frank Ticheli's Vesuvius. He'd heard it played at a school concert one year. He couldn't remember where he'd been living at the time, but he did remember liking the orchestral piece immensely. It was complex, with sections of tricky 9/8 time that helped to build tension as the destroyer of Pompeii rumbled to life, the patter of ash beginning to rain from the sky... Yeah, it was a rather intense piece, but it was good listening. Closing his eyes, his head bobbed lightly with the syncopated rhythms leading up to the first big musical hit about two-and-a-half minutes in. So focused was he on the music that he didn't realize that he had company until someone spoke to him. Opening his eyes, he turned to see who it was, giving a small jump of surprised at the sight of the blue-feathered mutant crouched near him. In his surprise, he accidentally turned up the volume on his iPod, which wouldn’t have been a problem a few seconds before because it had been at a softer point in the music. As it was, the next big musical hit nearly deafened him. The unexpected loudness almost made him jump out of his skin as he hurried to lower the volume, accidentally skipping to the next song in the process. Two jump scares, one right after the other. Needless to say, his heart was racing quite a bit by that point.
His embarrassment at his reaction only grew when he finally got a look at she who had spoken. She had a lean, muscular body that seemed to transition from some shade of yellow-green to the deepest, most beautiful color blue he'd ever seen on a living creature. Up until now, he thought that color could only be achieved artificially, but this... And the feathers! The lady had feathery wings and a feathery tail and feathers instead of hair on her head, and white eyes. That was a little disconcerting, but overall, he wasn't too bothered. Oh, but she was wearing practically nothing, which was the source of most of his current mortification. Once he realized this, he tried to look anywhere but at her nearly not-clothed state. His light blue eyes settled on her feet and those frightfully sharp-looking talons. "Could always be worse. Someone's almost always having a worse day than I am," he muttered as felt his ears going red in embarrassment. He pulled his ear buds out of his ears as he spoke, and after turning off the music device, he began to wind the ear bud cord around the iPod. He'd been raised to be polite, at least, and people tended not to like it if you were listening to music while they were trying to talk to you. Not that he was entirely sure he should be talking to this person. Wasn't there some rule about not talking to strangers? Especially such a noticeable stranger…
Suddenly feeling a tad fearful for this mutant's safety, Rem stuffed his iPod in his vest pocket and pushed himself up off the pavement, standing for a moment and looking around. They were on the far end of the parking lot, so it wasn't like there were a ton of people, and crouched as she was, nobody would really see her with all the vehicles blocking the way. Unless they came for the cars directly around them, but nobody seemed to be headed their way. And even if they did see her, maybe they'd assume she was dressed up in ceremonial garb for one of the tribes that helped manage the park. Tourists would never know the difference. Crouching back down, his elbows resting on his knees, Rem tried looking this soul in the eyes this time. "Are you sure it's alright for you to be out here?" he asked warily. Maybe the tribes were more tolerant of mutants than most humans. He didn't know.... I'll just have to find her myself. And I want a moment to be real Want to touch things I don't feel Wanna hold on and feel I belong
((OOC: Hehe, that does seem an interesting coincidence. :3 I don't think I ever mentioned this before, but I absolutely adore Harpy's design. <3))

Jakeline Astor Brotherhood of Mutants Jakeline waited patiently for the boy to respond. Carefully eying the teen, she couldn't help but chuckle at his response to her sudden appearance. She could hear the music spike twice as one song progressed and another started. His face told the story of his startling experience and the transition to embarrassment. She didn't expect him to be embarrassed, she instead half expected him to run for the hills. Jakeline glanced around again, making sure they were still as aone as they could be so close to a tourist trap. She could feel his eyes giving her a once over, as was expected, especially with her appearance.
Jakeline shifted her weight, moving one of her hands to rub the opposite shoulder, still sore from her fight with the wind. She nodded absently to his statement. "Ah, yes but it does not diminish the importance of your problems." She said, returning her hand to its resting place on her legs. The young man put away his electronic device, something Jakeline appreciated in a person. When the boy stood, she felt her power build at the back of her throat. One could never know what someone else was thinking and Jakeline was sure the teen was going to call for help. When he simply looked around and crouched in the same fashion as her she was surprised and the following question pushed her over the edge to speechlessness. It took her a moment to compose herself, straighten her back and answer. "It is quite alright, so long as I do not start anything that could endanger us. I wouldn't have stopped if the wind had not picked up and forced me to take a break." Jakeline mindlessly fidgeted with her necklace, turning the gem this way and that, even re-centering it along with hea head piece."Why do you care?" She asked, narrowing her eyes with suspicion. She inched herself back far enough to stretch her arms in front of her, to air the feathers out and give her muscles some relaxation before she dove into the canyon again.
Jakeline was getting used to the quiet conversation but knew it couldn't last. Footsteps seemed to echo in her ears after it was too late to move out of side. A young couple, perhaps their late twenties had unlocked their car, no doubt to either leave or have a quick meal before exploring more of the sights. When they saw Jakeline they immediately thought she was an actor and reaching to grab a camera, snapped a picture of her. She reacted quickly, standing and taking their camera and dropping it on the ground. If that didn't damage it, her foot coming down to crush it surely did the job. "I am no a mascot." She insisted, her accent slipping into its thickest form. She stood there, staring down the couple as they stared back, not knowing what to do or say.

Jeremy BurtanHopper ~Remy~ Where do I stand?: Unaffiliated // Where am I?: Grand freakin' Canyon // What am I up to?: Talking to a stranger // Who am I with?: A blue-feathered lady // How am I feeling?: Wary, disappointed, frustrated If no one will help me find my sister...Jeremy shrugged off the lady's comment about his problems still being important. He'd said the same to friends once or twice before, but he still felt stupid for complaining sometimes, especially when he knew other people had it worse. Especially when his sister was out there, God knew where, probably all kinds of frightened and alone. He watched absently as she rubbed her shoulder, wondering idly how tiring it must be to fly. He and his sister used to have silly discussions like that, arguing over the logistics and ultimately deeming it impossible anyway. Well, not impossible. Not now. Not since they learned about mutants. The feathered lady didn't seem to know how to answer his question, but it wasn't like he was in a rush or anything. It occurred to him that probably not many people asked her stuff like that. They probably either... he didn't know... ran screaming or tried to attack her, or something. Jeez, he hoped most people weren't like that, but he knew it was at least a possibility. He did heave a small sigh of relief when she said she should be safe for now. As long as she played it careful. Jeremy offered her a small smile after that.
She still seemed a little uncomfortable though, and he was about to ask if she was alright besides being a bit wind-battered when she asked him a question. He shrugged again as he watched her back away a little, as if she was ready to take off if his answer was in any way unsatisfactory. "Not everyone hates mutants," he said quietly, looking away from her. "Some of us... some of us just wish that we all could live in peace, ya know?" As he spoke, he thought he felt his phone buzz in his pocket. He knew it was probably just a phantam buzz, but he pulled his phone out anyway because maybe, just maybe... But nothing. Still. Sighing, he weighed the phone in his hand for a moment before looking back to the feathered lady. "My sister's a mutant. When our parents split, she got stuck with dad, and... it was bad, when her powers started up. She ran away from home recently, and... I haven't heard from her since. I'm just worried." He ran a hand through is short, blonde hair, looking away from his companion again. "I just don't think that anyone should have to go through life with that kind of fear." Realizing that he was spilling useless information to a complete stranger who didn't need to hear his problems, Jeremy chuckled ruefully. "Sorry, heh. I’m sure the last thing you wanted to hear today were the problems of a whiny adolescent."Jeremy didn't hear the people approaching until it was too late, and he watched with a panicked expression as the young couple reached their nearby car. There was no way they'd miss the feathered lady, and they locked in on her almost immediately. Luckily, as he'd guessed, they assumed she had something to do with one of the tribes that looked after the Canyon and started snapping pictures. The feathered lady reacted quickly, snatching the camera away and crushing it beneath her foot. The couple didn't seem so thrilled anymore. Jeremy shoved his phone back into his pocket as he rose to his feet. He then held his hands out in front of him in a placating gesture as he stepped between the feathered lady and the tourists. "You'll have to forgive her. It's been a long day. We do appreciate your interest, but the Hualapai Tribal Nation and the Havasupai Tribe take their cultural heritage very seriously and humbly request it be given its due respect. If you'd like to learn more, you can visit the Hualapai and Havasupai tribal centers, both of which you can reach if you drive West along the main road, or you can head back East to the Tusayan Museum." Jeremy put on his best, helpful smile, and the woman in the couple gave him a weak smile in return, while her man kept a wary eye on the feathered lady. Muttering something resembling an apology, they quickly got in their car and drove off.
The teenage boy let out a huge sigh once they were gone, his shoulders slumping. "You might want to get out of here," he said glumly, turning to look at the feathered lady. "Either they'll try to find the tribal centers and realize you're not part of anything, or they'll get lost because I have no idea if what I said was right, or they'll go straight for one of the park authorities to let them know that something's up. Considering your feet..." Jeremy gestured vaguely to her wicked talons, the other hand reaching up to nervously rub the back of his neck, "I don't think we were that lucky. If they go to the tribal centers, that would give you a few hours. If they go to a trooper… not so much." Checking again to make sure that his mother or anyone else wasn't coming for their car, he looked at the feathered mutant, feeling helpless. "Are you alright to fly? Do you... need water? Or something?" He gestured to his mom's car. There was a cooler in the back seat where they were keeping drinks and snacks. Maybe it was misplaced guilt at not being able to do anything for Abby, but he wanted to make sure that at least one mutant would be alright. He may have been too chicken to tell anyone about his own ability, but he could do this.... I'll just have to find her myself. And I want a moment to be real Want to touch things I don't feel Wanna hold on and feel I belong

Jakeline Astor Brotherhood of Mutants Jakeline stared down the couple during their departure. She absently kicked around the bits of plastic and metal that had once been a camera. Without a doubt the boy had saved her a world of annoyance by sending the tourists on their way. About to wave away the boy's worries, Jakeline turned sharply at the mention of her feet. She made a point to rise to the fullest of her height and tap her talons loudly against the pavement as she began to explain. "With the life I have lived, authorities present no danger. They would rather take me captive, try to bribe other mutants with my release or," She flicked her hand, "Send me to one of their laboratories to cut me up."
Jakeline turned and walked the short distance to the chest high wall that prevented people from falling over the cliff. She leaned up against it and swung her legs over to the other side and sat. Looking back at the teen and pat the wall beside her, planning to inquire about his sister."Tell me about your sister. It is always nice to hear about others of my kind." An eagle screeching in the distance, gliding gently over thermals. The wind had died down quite a bit. She would be able to leave now but the news of a mutant, one that could possibly be recruited, the opportunity was too good to give up.

Jeremy BurtanHopper ~Remy~ Where do I stand?: Unaffiliated // Where am I?: Grand Canyon // What am I up to?: Talking to a stranger // Who am I with?: A blue-feathered lady // How am I feeling?: Very wary and very worried If no one will help me find my sister...For a moment, Jeremy was legitimately worried that he had offended the blue-feathered lady. When she drew herself up to her full height and tapped her talons on the pavement, he flinched and tensed, ready to bolt if she suddenly decided to attack. Her ire seemed more focused on the authorities however, and her words seemed to carry a lot of weight. Jeremy got the distinct sense that this woman had been around for a while and been through some not-so-pleasant experiences. Like his sister... or worse. When she mentioned that the authorities might send her to a laboratory to cut her up, Jeremy's skin paled considerably, and he had to lean against his mom's car for a moment as real fear gripped him tightly for a moment. What if that's what had happened to Abby? What if that's why he hadn't heard from her in a while? What if... oh god, what if...
Movement thankfully snapped him out of that grim train of thought, and he watched as the blue-feathered lady walked away from him to the wall that kept people from falling into the Canyon. Jeremy thought she was taking her leave, but instead, she just sat there, her legs hanging canyon-side as she got comfortable. When she looked back at him and pat the spot beside her, he looked around before pushing away from his mom's car and walking over to join her. He hadn't seen his mom at the viewing platform, but she wasn't on her way to the car yet either. She was probably hitting the Visitor's Center for the vending machines, so they had some time. With only the slightest hesitation, Jeremy planted his hands on the wall and hopped up onto it, years of parkour making it a simple enough maneuver. Once he was sitting with his legs swinging canyon-side as well, he leaned back, his hands gripping the side of the ledge closer to the parking lot. It did occur to him that it wouldn't take much for this lady to push him off the wall, but he was pretty sure that she wouldn't. She could've just as easily sliced him open with her talons while they'd been shielded from view by the other cars.
She asked about his sister, and he tensed again. He still didn't know this lady's intentions, but it wasn't like there was much he could say about his sister's situation. He didn't know where she was or what had happened to her. Surely it couldn't hurt to say what little he knew? Maybe this woman would even have an idea as to what happened to Abby, if this lady had indeed seen the uglier side of things... "Her name is Abigale," he said softly, watching the eagle gliding overhead. "I hear that mutations are often triggered by stress. When our parents split and my sister got stuck with my dad... I'm sure it was plenty stressful. My dad's the kind of religious nutjob that gives everyone else in the religion a bad name," he growled, pulling a face. "From what she told me, my sister can control her shadow, and any other shadow it touches. Well, I say 'control,' but I don't think she really had any. Dad treated her like she was demon-possessed, so she ran away. Last I heard from her, she'd just crossed into New York somewhere. She wasn't sure where, but she said she'd tell me as soon as she knew. I... haven't heard from her since." Jeremy looked over at the blue-feathered lady. "You don't think... she was taken, do you? Would... would someone have captured her and taken her to a lab and... cut her up? Why would anyone do that?" For a moment, he sounded very young and very frightened.... I'll just have to find her myself. And I want a moment to be real Want to touch things I don't feel Wanna hold on and feel I belong

Jakeline Astor Brotherhood of Mutants Jakeline listened to the boy speak while she brushed dirt from her wings. She checked over all her feathers, making sure they where in good shape as well as inspecting the color of her skin. It looked the same as it always did, a deep blue that gently paled to a yellow color the closer to her center it went. By the way the boy spoke of his father, Jakeline deduced that there was a sour history lingering in the back of his mind. She wasn't entirely sure what he thought of his sister's abilities. There didn't seem to be any awe or wonder in his voice as he spoke but that could be because he had already come to term with his sister being different.
"Abigale sounds like she is one of a kind and her power, it is splendid." Jakeline interjected. The eagle screeched and folded into a nose dive, no doubt having found its next meal. "Humans...they are afraid of what they do not understand. They think that they can change the inevitable extinction of their species but by their efforts, they are simply speeding the process." Jakeline put a hand on the boy's shoulder and smiled sadly, "You must fact the fact that she may very well be in danger but as she is a mutant, I will do all in my power to help her. I will need more information though, last name, description, anything that might help locate her."
Jakeline used her talons to scratch a phone number into the small ledge of dirt in front of them. Underneath she wrote 'Harpy' so the boy would know who he was programming into his phone. "You can sometimes reach me at that number. Call, leave your number and information on the answering machine. I'll keep in contact, let you know if I've found anything."
Jakeline stood and spread her wings, looking at the boy once again before jumping. She free fell for a few seconds, caught the wind under her wings and let it lift her. She hovered momentarily, long enough to say one last thing,"You are not bad, for a human." Jakeline flew forward, only a couple of feet above the human, turned and dove into the canyon making her way back home to the hide out. A new mutant, one possibly in trouble, she would need to talk to Magneto about it once she got something solid on the girl.

Jeremy BurtanHopper ~Remy~ Where do I stand?: Unaffiliated // Where am I?: Grand Canyon // What am I up to?: Talking to/saying goodbye to Harpy // Who am I with?: Harpy // How am I feeling?: Wary, worried, wondering if I made the right decision... If no one will help me find my sister...Jeremy snapped his mouth shut when the feathered lady interjected, listening with rapt attention as she spoke. He was hoping that since she seemed to be more knowledgeable about what was going on out there, at least as far as mutants were concerned, that even if Abby was in danger, there'd be a way to help her. He couldn't help a small smile when the feathered lady said that Abigale sounded like one of a kind. Jeremy had certainly always thought so, even without her powers, but that was probably a younger brother's bias speaking. He really did think her powers were amazing though, and he'd tried to cheer her up when she'd first told him about them, saying that she could be a proper super hero with powers like that. However, the shadow of their overbearing father had already crushed any enjoyment she might have felt, and Jeremy's insistence that this was a good thing fell on deaf ears. His smile disappeared when the feathered lady mentioned that humans feared what they did not understand. There was no point in arguing that. History had plenty of examples. He was a bit confused by her comment that humans were fighting the inevitable extinction of their species, thinking it a rather harsh tone to take, but he forgot to ask her about it when she informed him that though Abby probably was in danger, she would do whatever she could to help a fellow mutant. "That's... that's very generous of you," Jeremy said softly, feeling the weight of her hand on his shoulder. He didn't know how he felt about all this though. For the first time since the beginning of the conversation, he was reminded that the feathered lady was, in fact, a stranger, and she was asking for detailed information regarding his sister. Wasn't that exactly the sort of information one usually avoided handing to a complete stranger? But... as a fellow mutant, and one that clearly valued fellow mutants over humans, surely she meant it when she said she'd do all in her power to help Abby? Jeremy wasn't so naive as to expect that even the feathered lady was without ulterior motive, but he needed help, and she was the only other mutant he'd bumped into - that he knew of, at least. Finally, grudgingly, he bit out the details. "Burtan. Abigale Burtan. Long-ish black hair, blue-gray eyes, probably with dark circles under them. Um... like, five-foot-four, unhealthily skinny... and, as I said, last time I heard from her, she was headed through New York. Probably the Northern part of the state, because that's closer to where she lived with dad."While he gave his brief description, feeling hopeful and guilty simultaneously, the feathered lady scratched something into the dirt in front of them. He leaned forward a bit to get a better look and saw that it was a phone number and a name. "Harpy"... well, it certainly fit. "Thank you, Harpy," he said, sounding genuinely grateful as she stood and spread her wings. His heart leaped into his throat for a moment when she jumped into a free fall, but he remembered, Duh, wings, half a second before her wings snapped open and she was lifted by the wind. She hovered overhead long for a parting remark, at which he chuckled. "Stay safe!" he shouted back as she took her leave, soaring off through the canyon. There was something beautiful about the sight of such a brilliant being taking flight like that. He sat on the ledge for a little while longer, putting her phone information into his Contacts list and fretting over his decision and hoping he wouldn't come to regret trusting Harpy with this..."Jeremy? Jeremy! What are you doing on that wall?!""Just enjoying the view, mum. I'll come down though. It's fine." Carefully swinging his legs back to the parking lot side of the wall, Jeremy pushed himself off and hugged his mother, an action which surprised his already startled mother into standing motionless for the duration of the short-lived embrace. "Sorry for worrying you. Shall we get going? It's still a few hours to Scottsdale, isn't it?" Audrey nodded, still looking slightly dumbfounded but hopeful that Jeremy's slightly calmer demeanor meant that things were good between them again, at least for now. Handing him a candy bar from the snack machine, she led the way back to the car. Jeremy grabbed two water bottles from the cooler in the back before climbing into the front passenger's seat, keeping his gaze out the window as his mom pulled out of the parking lot and got them back on the highway. At least he wouldn't be as bored for this leg of the journey. He definitely had more things to think about now...... I'll just have to find her myself. And I want a moment to be real Want to touch things I don't feel Wanna hold on and feel I belong
