Gaia Username:
Epic Irony
RP Name:
Marko Balkic aka "Gigavolt"
Gender:
Male
Age:
25
Personality:
He's kind of a sarcastic a**. Actually, he's a lot of a sarcastic a**. Generally rude and apathetic towards humans and mutants alike, he's got a very 'why should I care, what's in it for me?' kind of attitude. While he's not exactly selfish, he just doesn't see why he should care a whole lot about a stranger's problem. It's not his problem yet, and if it is later on he'll deal with it then... So why worry? But he's not entirely uncaring, either. He's got a soft spot for children, and if he ever stumbles upon a child victim, their tormentor almost never survives that encounter. He can be accurately described as an opportunist; his choices often are determined by what would benefit him most. He's got the whole 'dashing rogue' thing going for him, too, and can turn the charm and smooth factors way up when dealing with the ladies. However, in times of crisis there's no friend or foe. There's only who's going to die, and who might die in the process. When fighting, he's cold, calculating, and ruthless. He strikes without mercy, and has no qualms with ending a life. Of course, underneath his cold, hostile exterior... Is a tortured, broken psyche on the verge of sociopathic breakdown.
Bio:
Marko was born to a small Serbian farming family just before the dawn of WWIII. While they managed to remain 'under the radar' so to speak for the majority of the war, on the final days of the conflict a group of Bosnian insurgents found their home. In the middle of dinner, they broke the door down. Shot Marko's father in the back of the head, blowing his brains all over the family. Beat and raped Marko's mother and younger sister, who was four. And after killing them, beat Marko into unconsciousness and dragged him off. Despite the war being officially over, the small ragged group of Bosnian extremists continued their acts of terror, and attempted to train Marko to be a child solider. When it was discovered he was a Numan, they locked him up tight and began trying to kill him... With little success.
Despite the daily attempt on his life, Marko managed to stay alive for nearly three years in that hellhole. One particular day, the men decided to end it differently; throw him in the pit, and sic the dogs on him. Well, what they didn't know is that Marko had been charging himself for the past three weeks; without a proper discharge, he'd become so overpowered he was literally glowing. When the dogs were released, Marko suffered a seizure and an involuntary discharge; the resulting explosion laid waste to the small camp, ending forty nine of the fifty men's lives. The sole survivor saw what they'd done to this child, and as Marko approached to exact his unholy vengeance, the man ended his own life with a final apology.
After that, Marko wandered for quite some time before finding himself in Italy. When he was discovered by an unlucky truancy officer one day, he was nearly forced to go to school. While he didn't kill the man, he did leave him pretty much completely paralyzed. When he finally got bored and actually decided to show up for school, he realized that despite most of it being standardized garbage being regurgitated over and over, some of it was actually useful; particularly his science classes. Despite not technically having any record of schooling previous to his arrival, he was nonetheless absorbed into the public school system... Albeit somewhat reluctantly, after he proved to be something of a troublemaker. He was able to hide his mutations relatively well, but in the middle of his current year he was forced to move and switch schools because of an accidental discharge that left three students and a teacher hospitalized.
Eventually, he'd moved out of Italy and made it all the way over to England. Here he really began focusing on his science education, and while he's not exactly a genius, he's far above average as far as cognitive reasoning goes. He learned his stuff pretty well, and got into an exchange student program; this was half for the learning, and half just to get over to the States, where he planned to stay and get himself rich.
While he's yet to officially take a side, Marko has become something of an Anti-Hero in his own right; while he does occasionally rob places, it's mostly things for necessary survival. Like food. And he does stop murders and muggings and such, when he can. While he's yet to pick a side, or even be contacted by any Numan parties, he's begun to make some semblance of a name for himself as the Numan vigilante, Gigavolt. And not all of the things they say about him are good...
Class:
II
Electrokinesis. Marko has the ability to manipulate electricity. His body constantly generates a powerful electrical charge, and the flow, which follows his bloodstream, effectively can turn him into one of the world's most powerful electromagnets. While his magnetic capabilities are restricted to actually magnetic metals and are incredibly powerful, they're very basic as far as direction goes. Either towards him, or away from him. That's it. He can absorb electrical energy and redirect it. He's also capable of discharging huge amounts of electricity, in various forms. Typical lightning bolts, radial EMP blasts, or electro-kinetic explosions. The latter of which, while generally very powerful, require two things; the first of which is for Marko to be at maximum charge capacity, which would require either a lot of electrical absorption, or nearly three weeks of charging. The second would be for Marko to be the epicenter of the explosion. While not definitely fatal, it certainly has the potential to kill him, and as such he refrains from using this except as a last resort.
The side effects of his electricity are as follows; the magnetic field generated around him is constant, and at such a magnitude that it deflects almost all incoming metal projectiles. At a slow velocity, like thrown knives, the object is diverted in an entirely different direction, with a near complete loss of velocity. At higher velocities, like bullets, the projectile meets enough resistance to change paths enough to knock it off-target up to eight inches. This renders headshots nigh impossible, but with a little luck on the shooter's side bullets can still be lethal. Sort of.
The next side effect is his increased metabolism. The electricity flowing through his body is generated by every cell; and as such, every cell in his body is hyperactive. He is, for all intents and purposes, a gigantic, walking-talking-electric tumor. However, cellular regeneration doesn't happen until bodily harm occurs- the electricity that COULD be used to put the cell into hyperactive mode is instead discharged into the flow in his body. This results in two things; a healing factor on par with the character Wolverine's, and the inability to age. He's basically stuck at 20-ish forever. Or at least, for the foreseeable future.
The final side-effect is his increased physical features; while his strength is only marginally improved, relatively speaking (he can lift approximately 750 lbs, without a charge- strength increases with charge), his speed is superhuman. He's been clocked at nearly one hundred miles per hour, although that is his known maximum speed (while traveling in a straight path with no obstacles) and he can't keep it up for too long (less than a minute). He also has a natural resistance to thermal energy, and can stand temperatures of up to 550F with relative comfort. This in no way gives him immunity to fire; seeing as your typical campfire can range anywhere from 800F to 1150F, he's still quite capable of sustaining damage from fire-based attacks. It keeps him from burning himself regularly when he uses his powers, and keeps him from overheating when he runs.
Note that the constant charging of electricity requires a discharging at regular intervals; failure to do so could result in seizures, involuntary discharges, unconsciousness, short-circuiting (which for him is basically temporary paralysis), or even death. The discharge can be as simple as attacking an opponent, charging his cell phone, or even overloading a lightbulb just for fun.
Also note that, while his healing factor is impressive, massive internal damage or external damage can overload his body's systems; while he'd still regenerate, he'd be technically brain-dead even though his bodily functions would still work. After such an event, while he could still technically 'come back,' there's no telling what state his mind would be in when it happened. He might be perfectly fine, or an amnesiac, or completely and totally insane. Or near-catatonic. There's just no way to tell.
One final note; due to the subconscious nature of his base power, physical contact with conductive material can be dangerous. In particular, water is a very painful thing for Marko; while he can ingest it without harm, when it contacts his skin it can result in burn-like marks, severe pain, a shorting out of his powers, and even explosions. Rainstorms can leave him looking like he just faced a firing squad of frozen paintballs, for example. While it's not likely to be lethal, it's almost always painful. However, large amounts of electricity in Marko's system is immediately and involuntarily drained from his system when in contact with large amounts of water, and is spread throughout the water. If you're touching the water when it is in contact with Marko, you're dead. Plain and simple. Even if your not, if this water splashes on you after the initial fizzle-pop/explosion of water meeting electricity, you'll get equally nasty burns and welts.
Relevant Skills:
Decent survival skills, i.e. cooking, knot-tying, fire-starting, hunting, etc.
Halfway decent first-aid skills, generally not needed because of his healing factor.
Appearance Description/ Picture:
He looks a little something like this. Just a hair over six feet tall, weighing in at just over 160 lbs, he's not the most imposing figure around, and tends to keep a disgruntled look on his unshaven face.
Darkest Days
A mostly free-roam superhero RP with overarching main theme events.
