Another one of those 'big city' types of places. Honestly, this place is even worse off than New York; with a crime rate of well over 20%, most of the stuff that goes on around here is small time petty-thievery and human-on-human violence. Not too many supervillains of high standing around here, making it the perfect place for nooblet heroes- or just plain sucky ones- to learn the ropes. Just try not to get shot. Most Numans still aren't immune to bullets.

The dim alleyway assisted in further shadowing the hooded figure traveling down it. The ground was lined with the occasional homeless person, this being the slums and all. The figure merely walked by them without a glance or a word. An aura of coldness emanated from the being, who continued silently to the open street. Here, there were a few vendors offering the supplies the shadowed being came for; food. There wasn't a huge selection, but that didn't matter to the stranger. Silently the figure went, from vendor to vendor, simply putting the money on the counter and taking her prize. She filled the worn out sack she brought with her to the brim, and was about to head back when she spotted a hot dog vendor. Why not..? she thought. With a brief sigh, she walked over, sack hanging over her shoulder. Her free hand pulled the money from her pocket, and she finally spoke in a slightly hoarse voice, only to state in curt responses what she wanted her meal dressed with. Then it was time for her to head back; the quicker the better, the bag of food was making her shoulder tired, though this wasn't a huge concern to her. She munched on her lunch with her sight focused on the path before her, the way to her small, plain apartment.

Sounds of hustle and bustle of the city was blocked out by a particularly loud set of headphones. Previously lifted from the scene of a nearby mugging, the boy walking around now was listening to the mugger's iPod. He had a collection of the things now- all the muggers these days had one. One of Adam's main sources of income was selling iPods back to the local electronics store. Totally legal, as far as he was concerned- the manager didn't ask questions, and he made a quick buck just about every time he stopped a mugging. He was glad he'd come up with the system. His train of thought was distracted momentarily, however; sounds from a nearby alley caught his attention. Rough voices, and the sounds of scuffle.

He pulled the earphones from his head and walked into the alleyway quietly. From what he could see, four guys- dressed similarly, in leather jackets- were beating on someone he couldn't quite make out. Four guys? Probably Normals, since they were kicking instead of doing something weird. He frowned, stepping out of the shadows and clearing his throat. "Now, now, boys... That's not very nice."

They stopped, turning to him and laughing. "Oh yeah? And what're you gonna do about it, small fry?" Even the woman they'd been beating on, now clearly visible as they approached him, was attempting to urge him to run. But the sight of that poor girl, beaten and helpless, struck a chord somewhere in Adam. He looked back up to the muggers with a frown, and cracked his knuckles.

"You picked a bad day to be a douchebag, buddy." He put his hand against the brick wall, and pulled it out towards him; the wall itself stretched like putty before his fingers, and he shaped it into a rather crude club. "Know what I'm gonna do with this? ... I'm gonna knock your teeth out." The statement was simple and almost light-hearted, as one of the men came at him with a crowbar. The crowbar hit his arm, and immediately dissolved, falling out of his hands. The thug looked at his empty hands, confused, as Adam swung the brick club and bashed his face open. By this time they'd made enough noise to be noticeable- but the man's anguished cries from being bludgeoned by such a weapon was quite something else. And with the other three thugs closing in, Adam saw that one of them had a gun. This might get a little tougher than he'd expected.
PostPosted: Thu Oct 04, 2012 3:18 pm

As the thugs closed in on Adam, an odd whine could be heard above them, and semi-transparent dome of white light fell down around him, shielding him from the thugs. They looked up and saw the dome connected to a beam of white light, which was being emitted by a man in a yellow-and-silver bodysuit, and his body was outlined by white light as well.

"I think that's close enough," the man said, and the thug with the gun aimed his weapon and shot it at the floating guy, who quickly raised his other hand the moment he saw the gun come up and made a forcefield projected out of his free hand, deflecting the shots, and then he let the shield dissipate.

"C'mon guys, you're not gonna win, just... Give up already," the man said, and he seemed a little weary. "I just stopped a robbery over on Rodeo Drive an hour ago, what chance do you guys have?"

The thugs backed away, but didn't seem to want to surrender, so the man sighed.

"Fine... Have it your way," he said, and he raised his hand that was no keeping the dome up and blasted all three with concussive blasts of energy, knocking them back onto the ground and unconscious. Satisfied, he let his dome disappear as he landed on the ground beside Adam.

"You okay, kid?"

Adam brushed himself off, looking around at the damage this dude had just caused. He glanced up at the man with a raised eyebrow- the costume was a bit much, in his own personal opinion, but the guy seemed pretty cool. Beat up bad guys, and did cool stuff with light. He was pretty cool in Adam's book. "Yeah, I'm good," he replied relatively calmly, raising an eyebrow at them. "What'd you do to them? That was some crazy stuff. Very cool," he muttered, glancing around. Part of him was already trying to size up what the muggers might have on them. But then he remembered the woman they'd been assaulting, and he pointed suddenly towards her before hurrying to her side. She was young, perhaps mid-twenties, but you couldn't tell through the already-swelling facial injuries; they'd certainly done a number on her. "Jeez... She doesn't look too good. Should we call the cops or something?" He asked, trying to stay calm- panicking never helped in this situation. The woman, currently unconscious, didn't seem to be in immediate need of medical attention, which helped.

Rattlesnake venom... Bleach... Alcohol... The hooded figure ticked of the list of things she needed to come back out for in her head as she headed back to her apartment. She wanted to just get it over- drop some of the food off at her place then come back. Some, because she would use what was left in the bag to conceal her more... interesting purchases. Plus, she needed to count up how much cash she had left... Her thoughts were suddenly interrupted, however, at the sounds of a brawl. She stopped and turned her head to the commotion, only to meet a very interesting sight indeed. Numans... Getting gutsier now, are they? she thought. So she wasn't the only one not afraid to use her power when necessary. The being stood there for several minutes, observing the fight and then the Numans talking. It wasn't any of her business- she should turn around and be on her way. There were important things that needed to be done. However, still she remained in place, fiery orange-red eyes scrutinizing the pair from afar. Her ears focused on the sounds around, picking out their words. She finally discovered their voices, matching words as she read their lips. Thoughts raced as she tried to make up her mind. With a sigh, she glowered at them for a while longer before forcing her gaze away. However, instead of going back to her apartment, she went walking toward them. It was kind of on her way, anyway- where she needed to buy more important things, that is. Her bright, menacing eyes passed a glance at them as she neared them.

The guy, Photon his alias was, moved over to the unconscious woman and knelt down beside her.

I don't suppose I can scan her body? he thought.

No, unfortunately, but I can at least tell that she will live if she is taken to one of your primitive hospitals. came the voice of Ishon, the voice in his head that was the original bearer of the powers Photon possessed, and who bonded his consciousness to the young human and turned him into a Numan in the process.

Gee, thanks.

"I can get her to a hospital quickly enough," he said to the boy, picking the woman up in his arms. "Think you can handle yourself, kid?" He didn't even seem to notice Jax as she approached; or if he did, he didn't regard her.

"Yeah, I think I'll manage alright," Adam muttered, kicking the first thug lightly with his foot. The one who's face he'd smashed with the brick club still held in his hand. He smirked to himself as the man picked up the woman. The guy was kind of cool, in the hero-ish way. Adam didn't particularly see himself on either side of the law, but he did like to help people when he could- thus the source of him getting involved in the first place- and the idea of another person like him being around was intriguing. "Who are you, anyway?" But while the strange light man didn't seem to see the girl with the glowing eyes, Adam definitely did. Her look, and more importantly her glowing eyes, creeped him right out.

The young woman smirked under her hood before turning her gaze to the ground as she passed them. Her feet took her to another dark part of town, darker even than where she lived. This was the district that held all kinds of ingredients she needed. Her eyes looked up again, examining the "abandoned" buildings, some looking more so than others. She stopped outside a dark window, looking inside. A dim light could be seen in the very back.

Jax entered the store slowly, closing the door quietly behind her. The man sitting behind the counter looked up and smirked; he knew her well. "Running low again, eh?" Jax pulled back her hood and smirked in return.
"Got anything new for me today, Pete?" The man slid the chair back then stood and unlocked a glass case hanging on the wall. "Oh yes, I have something pretty special now..." he said as he withdrew a vial from the case. "Black mamba venom. I bet you could make something pretty interesting with this..." Jax looked at the tempting vial. She pocketed her free hand, clenching it around the cash she had then asked, "How much?" Pete beckoned her to come closer and whispered the price in her ear. She let out a hissing breath. "Damn... do you think you could cut me some slack?" The clerk stood up to full height and crossed his arms, thinking. "I suppose I could cut a deal for you... How about twenty percent off?" She smirked. "That's pretty generous of you, Pete."

"Well, you're a regular, plus you're about to bring me some more dough now anyway." Jax grinned and set the bag down, withdrew the money from her pocket, and set to counting. "Here you are," she said, setting down the cash on the counter. He handed her the vial and she pocketed it with a broad grin on her face. "So, the reason I came down here to begin with... Need some rattlesnake venom. And a few other things..." she went through the list in her head, remember several more things she had wanted to buy and listed them to him. Soon, her pocket was considerably lighter on cash, but the currency had been replaced with several vials of different chemicals and poisons. With a two fingered wave, she bade him good bye and backtracked to the open road.

She soon spotted the Numans again. A smirk played on her expression and she decided to lean against a wall, watching and listening. Her fiery gaze held on to its menacing glint.

Growing bored, Jax sighed and pulled her hood up again, then shifted the weight of the bag on her tired shoulder. She walked right past the Numans again, shooting another glance as she continued on her way. Now she really was gonna go back and drop off her things before she gathered the rest of her supplies. As she continued on, her eyes scanned the crowd, falling upon a particular male who was staring at her. She said nothing, did nothing to acknowledge that she noticed him, and kept walking.

However, it soon became apparent in the thinning crowd that the sound of footsteps behind her remained consistent with her pace. She stopped. The one tailing her stopped too. For a few moments, she only stood there, but then continued on as though nothing had happened. As she entered a random alleyway, the footsteps sounded even clearer. Jax's steady pace kept up, but she soon stopped again. The footsteps paused, then slowly proceeded on. As soon as the tail was near, she spun around and shoved the guy into a wall with her free hand, then grabbed the collar of his shirt.

"The hell do you want?!" Jax snarled at the guy. He quelled a bit, but a stupid grin split his face. "You're- you're Jax, right? Jax Hazard?" Her eyes narrowed. "Who wants to know?" she snapped. "Oh, you know Donny, right?" He sniggered as the angry look on her face sharpened, then she pulled her arm back a bit, still holding on to his shirt, and shoved him back again, harder this time. "Ow, easy, easy... Just thought, y'know, we could talk a bit- about him, I mean."

"Did that b*****d have the nerve to show up around here again?" she growled. "Well, y-yeah..." He tensed as she tightened her grip. "Wh-whoa! H-h-h-hang on a sec! I know where he is! I know where he is!" If he expected Jax to loosen up her grip, he was sorely mistaken. "Spit it out!" she snarled. "Okay! Okay! Listen, could we just talk like normal people?" came his quivering voice. Jax finally released him, but her fiery gaze remained fixated on him, watching him carefully. "My name's Elliot. I'm, uh... a former colleague of his." Her eyes narrowed again. "Look, look, I got into some trouble! I don't like him anymore than you do! S-so I figure... I heard about what happened... with your friend Damir and all." Jax's gaze hardened. She felt ready to strike him, but at the same, she wanted to listen to what he had to say.

"I got some intel about where he's gonna be for a while. He's gonna be hanging around the west side... You know where the warehouses and trucking company are, right? I'm pretty sure that's where I heard he'd be." Elliot looked over each shoulder nervously.
"And why are you telling me this?" she asked, eying him suspiciously. He gulped, then with a nervous grin said, "W-well... if you take care of him, he's off my back too..." She snorted. "Figures. Now get out." Elliot left at a jog, looking nervous all the while. Jax gently put the bag down and slammed her fist against a wall, eyes closed and head bowed. That b*****d... he was the one who ruined Damir's life. He was the one who made her only friend disappear, run for his life. There was no way he could have taken on an army- if the rumors were. She wondered if he was still alive. The rumors went that Donny had some links to the mob... Could Damir still be alive, if this really was true? She stared up at the sliver of sky between the buildings for a while, thinking, trying to calm down.

Jax picked up the bag and walked onward, unconsciously making her eyes flash for a brief moment. The brief glow of a radiation symbol appearing in each eye was seen by a homeless man, who promptly stood up and ran into the street in a panic, yelling, "A freak!". She pulled her hood up again and headed once more for her apartment, eyes staring blankly ahead.

Photon still didn't regard Jax as he spoke to Adam, telling him his alias, before lifting off the ground and taking the unconscious woman in his arms, flying to the nearest hospital and dropping her off. That done, Will sighed and lifted up into the air again.

You know, if I had some sort of way to sense danger, that would be nice...

I made do just fine without that, you know. You can too.

Near the outskirts of the city, a little spark of burning flame hurtled for the skyline. From a distance, it appeared to be a simple meteorite, or a falling star. But its appearance in the middle of the day would gather some talk from a few onlookers. Anyone with close enough magnification would be able to see that it wasn't, in fact, a hunk of space rock coming through orbit... but a woman. Clad in a sleeveless red leotard, with white boots and gloves, and a billowing blue cape, the figure seemed unfazed by the ridiculous temperatures around her. In fact, she seemed to be smiling.

Her work in space had been successful; correcting the satellites had been an enjoyable job. It was always good to get out of the house every once in a while, was her thinking. Nearing the city, she angled herself away from the populace, and came down with a hard, sturdy landing. Standing, she brushed off the specks of dust from her outfit, just before leaping into the sky once more. As she came to the collection of rooftops that constituted Los Angeles, Mary Kendrick, known publicly as Ultima, came to a halt atop one of the taller buildings.

Scanning the cityscape, her hands on her perfectly-shaped hips, Mary's eyes fell upon a new figure in the sky. Since she began her career as a defender of the innocent, she had seen few New Humans who possessed the ability to fly, and her curiosity was now more than piqued. Leaping once more, she came to a stop in midair nearby the other airborne figure. "Hello!" She called, her voice jubilant as usual, and her body floating lightly closer to the man. "I don't believe we've met; I'm Ultima! I haven't seen too many other flyers... what's your name?"

Will looked at Ultima and froze up a bit; she was possibly the most gorgeous woman he had ever seen.

Will? Will? Ishon to Will-- The female asked you a question... Ishon said, and Will shook himself out of his daze.

"Uhh-- Hi. I'm Beck William-- Uhh, William Beck, sorry. I go by 'Will' for short, but my, uh, my supehero name is Photon..."

F'tho'k... You are incredibly lucky we are floating high above the city and no-one apart from I and this female can hear you make a fool out of yourself... Ishon snarked; Will ignored him.

"So, uh... Ultima, right? I've... heard about you... Yeah..." Will said awkwardly, and he rubbed the back of his neck.

You are SO good at getting the attention of your females, I'm in utter shock! I REALLY mean that!

A girl sat on the edge of a building. Her eyes were closed and her shoulder length hair was wild and framing her face. When she opened her eyes she revealed cerulean colored irises. She bit her full lower lip and then propelled herself off the building. The muscles in her toned arms rippled from the exertion but were hidden by a black zipped up turtle neck. Onyx colored gloves covered her thin dainty fingers which gripped a thin metal chord that connected itself to the terrace adjacent to the roof where she was sitting moments before. The chord with her additional weight swung and she gritted her teeth in concentration. Her legs straightened and she bend her knees as her feet went through a window. Glass propelled at her but thanks to her clothing minimal damage was inflicted. The metal chord disconnected from the terrace and wrapped around her wrist into a thin bracelet. She crouched down and surveyed her surroundings knowing that any minute now the homeowners would alert the authorities. Stealthily she slipped out of the bedroom door careful not to make any more noise then necessary. Smooth Az... Definetely smooth. Probably should have chosen a better entrance. Oh well. Just hurry now. Get in and out before people get hurt. You've got a job to do. When she finished her little pep talk she searched for the item she was hired to recover.

As Photon spoke, Mary looked blissfully unaware of the internal struggle he was having; this was due in large part to the fact that she was blissfully unaware of the internal struggle he was having. "Well, Will," She said, still smiling, "You can call me Mary. Superheroes get first-name basis with each other, I suppose." The floating woman gave a little chuckle, though it was really more of a giggle. "I suppose some people have heard of me... I think it's the red tights; they can draw the eye, yes?" Mary have a little twirl in midair; allowing her cape to billow around her, and her shoulder-length hair of brilliant oak to do much the same.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eww... gross... when was the last time this guy showered...?

Looking around, vision a little groggy at first, all seemed normal. Well, normal as something could be when the fact that he was currently wearing the body of another person as though it was the latest fashion trend was considered. His current guise was that of a retail cashier; a portly one, who smelled, quite strongly, of eggs. Putting that scent out of his mind, he walked the cashier from behind his counter, over to the cooler at the end of the magazine rack.

Sliding open the door, the cashier plucked free a chilled bottle of sweet, carbonated goodness, scanned it, paid for it using his own debit card, and proceeded to exit the store he was supposed to be working a shift at. Once the bottle was sent on the bench beside a man in a long-coat, with slightly spiked hair and a pair of goggles, the cashier returned to his post, and suddenly looked as though he had just forgotten the last few minutes of his life.

That had been precisely what had happened. Opening is his eyes and taking a breath to recompose himself, Olson Visk, Agent O to the crime world, took the soda from beside him and cracked it open. Damn it's good to be me... He suddenly remembered the reason he was in LA, and looked to the gauntlet on his arm once more. Okay... maybe not picture perfect... It was time to stop screwing around... or... it was time to stop screwing around as much.

He stood, bottle in hand, and moved down the street with scanning eyes. After a few minutes of walkin' and sippin', a little ping, followed by a few clicks sounded off near his ear. He pulled the goggles on his forehead down, and suddenly a sort of heads-up display shown on the world around him. Some of this tech isn't so bad... but that crazy lady's voice in my head is a little disconcerting... The display showed him a person on the street in particular; one who was giving off abnormal amounts of radiation. Well... everyone needs a calling card... Approaching the woman, making sure to keep something of a distance, he came from the front, so as to let her know of his intentions to speak to her.

She was the name in the black market for poisons: Jax Hazard. "Excuse me... Olson said, almost conversationally. "I hear you know how to deal with what makes people tick... that true?"
