Oɴᴄᴇ Uᴘᴏɴ A Tɪᴍᴇ: Born and raised in a comfortable home in an average neighborhood in Frankfurt, KY, there wasn’t much to suggest that anything out of the ordinary would happen in Samantha’s life. She was an ideal big sister: protective, if somewhat bossy. Her diligence in her schoolwork also made her a tough act to follow, but she and her younger sister Amelia always got along fairly well. Samantha was always self-driven when it came to her work. Her parents encouraged her plenty, but she was always her own toughest critic. Her father was a Professor of Psychology, a subject which Samantha took to with enthusiasm, and her mother was a librarian, which helped to foster Samantha’s love of books and reading. Needless to say, she was always considered a bookworm at school. She spent free periods in the school library, assisting the librarian and reading.

It was a surprise to everyone when she announced a desire to become a police detective. Considering that Sherlock Holmes had always been at the top of Samantha’s list of favorite literary characters, she and Amelia thought it made perfect sense. With her knowledge of psychology, the tidy mind she’d developed from working in the library, and her near photographic memory and eye for detail, she felt that she could be instrumental in getting delinquents and criminals off the streets and behind bars where they belonged. Her studies in college reflected this desire, and she was determined not to let her gender be held against her. She certainly made an impression as she blazed through college at Kentucky State University, double majoring in Psychology and Criminal Justice. She then blazed through the Police Academy afterwards. Somewhere in her college years, she picked up the basics of computer hacking and cracking but only explored the subject out of casual interest at the time, not wishing to damage any future career chances by accidentally doing something illegal.

It was just after she made Detective that tragedy struck her family.

Amelia was killed in an accident involving a mutant during her senior year of high school. The boy had no control over his power, which was apparently triggered by pain and stress. Facing bullies, the young mutant sent an explosive shockwave out in every direction, and everything within 100 feet was blown backwards, including the school bus carrying Samantha’s younger sister. Samantha had always been aware of the vague mutant threat, but it was then that she realized the true danger they presented, particularly from those mutants with no control over their powers and those with ill intent.

She was working with the Surveillance department at the time, and although she was not assigned to the case because of that and her family’s involvement, Samantha kept close tabs on the proceedings. She was very much interested when men came for the mutant boy, but she never managed to find out who they were or what they wanted with him. She has always been curious though. It took a lot of digging – and no small development of her hacking skills – but she finally found the Organization for the Containment of Mutants (OCM). Security was too tight for her to get into the system, but she found enough evidence to suggest that the company was not what it seemed. She wanted in. She moved to Manhattan and sought them out.

Uɴᴅᴇʀ Tʜɪs Mᴀsᴋ: Samantha is very focused and driven with the curiosity to keep her digging where others might back down or give up. She has no problem staying late to complete work or to take on extra work. Her idea of unwinding is sitting down with a massive book or watching movies with her cats. Work is her life, and she doesn’t put much time or stock into relationships unless it’s convenient. She can be a people person when the job requires it, but outside of work, she can be fairly unsociable, partly because her knowledge of psychology makes her way of everyone’s behavior.

She doesn’t hate mutants, but after the incident that took her sister, she firmly believes that those without adequate control of their powers should be contained and supervised until control is gained. Her biggest soft spot is for stray cats, which she on occasion adopts into her home.

She doesn’t like being bored. It leaves her with too much time to think, and sometimes, that puts her in a melancholy mood and highlights her lonely state. She knows that logically, there was nothing she could have done to save her sister, but she wonders if she’d been paying closer attention to the mutant problem, become active on that front sooner, maybe things could have turned out differently. Samantha doesn’t talk about it with anyone, but she really misses her sister.

Wʜᴀᴛ Mᴀᴋᴇs Mᴇ Sᴘᴇᴄɪᴀʟ: - She may not look like much, but she’s fit and she can take care of herself.
- Her eyes are always searching, always observing, taking in details.
- Her hair is probably what makes her stand out the most – brown, with distinct amounts of red.

Wʜᴀᴛ Mᴀᴋᴇs Mᴇ Dɪғғᴇʀᴇɴᴛ:
- She has a knack for doing research and finding patterns in seemingly unrelated events.
- Her hacking skills aren’t exactly impressive, but with a little diligence, she can get into a lot places that most people can’t.
- She’s highly curious. This could lead to trouble, but she wouldn’t be good at her job without this trait.
- Psychological profiling was a hobby before it was part of her job. She’s pretty good.
- She has an eye for detail and near photographic memory. When applied, these skills have been very useful in her career.

Tʜᴏsᴇ Wʜᴏ Lᴏᴠᴇ Mᴇ: Joseph Patrick Colt (father); Patricia Jane Colt (mother); Amelia Elizabeth Colt (younger sister – deceased)
