the balls are spun and the announcer picks the names. Girls first, then boys. She reads them:
Shine Marla
Shilo

Natalia went pale as shilos name was called. she wanted to cry but she felt too numb.
((ill play breezes chari cause she wont be on for a while. she gave me permission too XP ))
"any volunteers?" the announcer asked and Drew stepped forward. "ill volunteer." he said, trading places with Shilo
Natalia pressed her hand to her mouth and cryed tears of releif. she went up to meet Shilo as he left the stage and gave him a tight hug

Shilo hugged her just as tight while he made his way back to his seat.

The shock rippled through Shine's body. She had been picked? But...she was supposed to volunteer--oh. So that was where all that extra food had come from. And no doubt, there was more that had been hidden or given away. So Shine wouldn't know about the tesserae her mother had taken for her. Clearly, she was getting impatient. So there was nothing else for shine to do except step onto the stage, and wave down the other Career volunteers. She looked around boldly at the crowd, hiding under a confident mask. When Shine saw her mother's face, it held a mysterious emotion she hadn't seen in years. Her father's face, when she saw it, was full of pride. But her sisters were solemn. The younger, Daisy, was crying. Of course, being five, her brother didn't know what it all meant and was cheering along with everyone else.
Then, a real wave of boldness washed over Shine. She had been training for years. She knew how to set up a snare, how to track animals or humans. She knew the best way to evade, the quickest way to kill. She could win, and her mother would love her...

Natalia nodded but didnt say anything, she was still clinging to him, what would have happened if Drew hadnt volunteered? she would have died inside...

He sighrd like he was going to give a long speech about how it would make him look weak in front of fellow competators, but instead he placed his hand gently on her shoulder and kissed her.

Shilo was shocked when she kissed him back, and after a few seconds, he pulled away. There was only one thought that he could process to say out loud. "best kiss ever."
