Spelling and grammar:
Typos and small errors in grammar are to be expected, however we ask that all users make an effort to edit their posts. Chat speak is not acceptable in this guild, and users who continuously use chat-speak will have to leave.
If you are not aware of the rules of grammar, I suggest that you buy a copy of Stunk and White's "Elements of Style." This book is usually recommended by universities, and is a fabulous guide to grammar.
In some cases, it is appropriate to use non-academic grammar. Many styles of writing are subject to something known as poetic licence. All writing, however, should be coherent and should follow basic writing guidelines.
Dialog is not subject to grammar, but in most cases is still subject to proper spelling.
** Be aware that British and Canadian spelling conventions often include "u" where American spelling conventions do not. Words such as "favourite" and "colour" are acceptable even though the American spellings are "favorite" and "color."
Don't worry, you will be warned if you break these rules before anything happens to your membership.
Criticism:
Users are expected to be polite when they criticize others' work. With that in mind, if you believe someone has unfairly criticized your work, you are to report them to me, not be rude back.
It is normal for some criticism to appear harsh, especially to new users. A writer should be able to take criticism well, especially criticism pertaining to grammar rather than subjective elements of a piece of writing.
Collaborative writing:
People who join a group working on a collaborative project should be aware that this requires dedication. If you are going to be away, warn your group ahead of time and provide a reason. If you are absent from a story for too long, it is perfectly acceptable for the story to go on without you, and your posts may be deleted from that topic. If you continually join writing groups and ignore your responsibilities to them you will be warned that this behaviour is inappropriate. If you fail to correct it, you will be banned. Do not join collaborative groups you do not intend to be dedicated to working with.
Role Playing:
Many great modern writers get practice by role-playing. It is a great way to get creative energy flowing. That being said, role-playing and requests for role playing is only acceptable in role-playing threads and these topics should be confined to a role-playing sub-forum. Collaborative writing is not the same as role-playing.
*More rules will come as I have the time to fill in this page. Users are asked to check this page regularly. Not knowing the rules will not be a valid excuse for disobeying them.
Any user caught violating the TOS will be warned or banned depending on the severity of the infraction. Remember, I paid 20,000 gold for this guild and if users violate the TOS the guild could get shut down and we could lose any writing we haven't backed up.
