Vangreth is a Windigo aura of the Fire redou. She's about the size of a large beach ball. She's generally easygoing, but rather picky about who she interacts with; she won't bother with someone unless she deems them worthy of her time, which is why she doesn't interact much with the residents of Inle's household. Her relationship with Inle is an odd one: while Vangreth usually wouldn't hesitate before eating a human, she values her guardian's company and feels a sense of loyalty to her. Vangreth is a descendant of Wagosh, the weakest of the three Ancient Sisters. She is very defensive about this, and hates to be called weak. She's got a sort of mean, violent streak, which is completely at odds with her lineage. It doesn't appear often, however, as it takes quite a bit to bring her to that point. Currently, she is looking for a host, and she seems to have found one she deems suitable... Lenore is the girl Vangreth has chosen to be her new host. Lenore is almost 20, but looks to be a few years younger. Not much is known about her yet, but Vangreth has a good feeling about this one...

Name: Inle-roo Iridien Gender: Female Birthdate: 12/05/84 Height: 5'4" Weight: 135 lbs. Hair Color: Black streaked with purple Eye Color: Purple Inle is an incredibly laid-back person, bordering on lazy. She enjoys little more than sleeping in. Her tastes run towards the eccentric, as her collection of unique rubber duckies and 80's heavy metal records indicates. While she isn't a people person, she doesn't go out of her way to alienate herself; not on purpose anyway. Inle is incredibly cynical and sarcastic, but neither bitter nor angry, and she's loyal and protective of those she cares about. To her friends and family, she's always got a shoulder to cry on and an ear to rant into. Caduceus has got a rebellious streak, and tends to be somewhat manipulative. Deep down, he's got a good heart. He often helps Inle take care of the younger members of the household. Deuce, as he is nicknamed, is rarely seen without his staff and lantern. Ephenrix is a Phuuaso Inspirati. The Phuuaso are born completely apathetic, and rarely take the initiative to do anything without being told. Such is the case with Ephenrix, although Inle is trying to teach it how to feel. It doesn't seem to care one way or the other about much of anything yet, however, though it does seem to have a sweet tooth... Khepri is a Lunec. He's a playful sort, if a bit airheaded, and always ready to help. He, like Deuce, helps Inle out with many of the younger children. Pavel is a Kuatalmot, the embodiment of a certain emotion; in Pavel's case, it's Paranoia. He is afraid of just about everything, and will often blow things out of proportion if there's even a hint that it might be dangerous. He's very curious, although whether it's genuine curiosity or a spaz attack waiting to happen is a different story. Ciaran is a curious baby, who always seems to be in the middle of whatever trouble is going on at the time. He's utterly fearless (or too young to know better), and loves to be the center of attention. An innocent air seems to surround him, although he's really anything but.

Kota comes from a talisman Inle picked up on a shopping trip. He has the power to change his size (to a degree), but not his outward appearance. He loves mimicing people and things, almost to the point of annoyance. He is often seen floating aimlessly around the house. Narawen is a wild Feli, and was Inle's first pet; it was actually Narawen who adopted her. Because of this, the two have an unbreakable bond. Narawen is intensely curious, and seems to get along well with the other members of the household. She will often leave the house for days to visit the Feli House, where many of the other Felis live. Tama is a Cremello Ocelot Banthi, the youngest cub of his clan's Alphess and her mate. Like his mother, he's got wings, and will often soar the skies for no other reason than the sole pleasure of flight. He's fiercely loyal to his family and (most) of his clan. He is a battler in his clan, and trains nearly nonstop; although some might take him as overly serious, those who know him know that he's got quite the sense of humor. Very little is known about Scylla, a ghost dragon, as he is rarely seen. He arrived on Halloween, circling the house with the other ghosts that night, and hasn't quite left yet. Gideon (left) and Nil (right) are Leguanis. They showed up in boxes on Inle's doorstep one day and haven't left the house since. They're like really big, lazy dogs, who don't do much but eat, sleep, and look cute. They're handy for scaring off would-be burglars, though. Maggie is a CrocoStyle, and one of the first. She came from a high heeled shoe. She's a sassy, spunky little croc who never fails to get into trouble. She may be small, but she doesn't let any of the bigger creatures in Inle's house take advantage of that. Mina is a vampiric Blath. She doesn't come into the house much, preferring to stay outside and raid Inle's garden for fruits, vegetables, and small rodents. She and her sprite Seras are an inseparable pair. Nebel is a fog Wethkin. It's only about the size of a gumball, so it's rarely seen. It wanders with Kota around the house, and you can often hear it coming before you see it because of the "myuh" sound it will often make. Stolza is obviously still an egg. Nothing is known about her, except that one day she will hatch as a Guardian of Gaia. Inle often carries her around, not trusting the others in the house to leave the egg alone. Tessa is more like an overgrown puppy than a gryphon. She is incredibly playful and attempts to get the other pets to join her in her games, usually to no avail. She's also got a chewing problem, as no piece of furniture is safe from her sharp beak and claws. The Sprocket Army comes from Moorgahaine's Emporium & Forge. One of each Sprocket populates the house, and they all do different things. Some of them have bonded themselves to various members of the household, but some still remain independant.

12/08/04 - Journal Entry (Finally!)
I'm never going into the woods again. Ever. Why? Let me explain.
I was pissed off, and apparently it was showing, because my boss told me to take the rest of the day off, maybe take a nap and some Midol, and relax. Seeing as I hate my job, I agreed. So I started walking home, and calmed down a little, and that was cool, so I kept walking--right to the woods at the edge of town. At that point, I was feeling pretty good, and figured hey, what the hell, I could use the exercise anyway.
Big mistake. I wound up getting lost within like, a half hour or so. And, just to spite me, it starts raining. As I was wandering aimlessly through the woods, I came upon a rickety-looking old house. It looked kinda desolate, but cool nonetheless. I went up to it and knocked on the front door, hoping against hope that someone was inside and could tell me how to get back to civilization. Luckily, the door opened, and a woman answered. She gave me a once over, then smiled and invited me in.
I followed her into the house, dripping water onto the floor, and she led me into what looked to be the living room. She left the room for a moment, returning with a large towel. I took it gratefully, then wrapped it around myself and sat down. We spoke for awhile; I learned that the woman's name was CWL, and that she lived in the house alone except for her collection of rare and exotic animals. I hadn't seen any, but I had heard some odd noises...
At one point, I noticed a strange glow coming from the room CWL had disappeared into earlier. She noticed me staring over her shoulder at it, and turned to see what I was looking at before looking back at me.
"What is that?" I asked.
"Oh, that's a Windigo," she said, as if that would explain everything.
"Oh...uh, what's a Windigo?"
She proceeded to explain what a Windigo was, and I found myself entranced. They sounded awesome! As CWL spoke, the glow behind her grew brighter, and eventually started moving towards us. It got closer, and I noticed that it was just a ball of swirling red, black, and yellow light. It hovered around us, making a low humming noise, and my attention moved from CWL to it.
"This is a Windigo, then?" I said.
"Yep, this is a Windigo in the aura stage, the first stage. This one's name is Vangreth, and she's from the fire redou."
I held my hand out towards it, and it came closer. As it did, my mind filled with strange images. I saw Vangreth's aura, hovering over a decimated corpse--MY corpse. I didn't flinch; although CWL had told me what Windigos were capable of, I wouldn't believe it until I had seen it with my own eyes. The vision left, then, to be replaced by another one. It looked like a smiley-face emoticon, and I laughed.
"She likes you, I think," said CWL.
"Oh yeah? How can you tell?"
"Well, she hasn't eaten you yet!"
I looked at CWL then, blankly, trying to gauge whether she was serious or not. She certainly looked it, although she was still smiling. "You should get going," she said almost gently, "before it gets too dark."
My brow furrowed in confusion, and I looked towards the window. "But isn't it still--" I cut myself off as I saw that the rain had stopped. Still slightly confused, I nodded and stood. "Um...thanks for your hospitality, and the directions."
She nodded, and as I turned towards the door, she said, "Aren't you forgetting something?"
I looked behind me, only to see Vangreth hovering in my line of sight. I peered around her. "What, you mean...?"
"Yeah. You're the first person other than me who she's let walk out of here alive. That's got to count for something, right? Just take good care of her, and don't let her bring dinner home unless you like dealing with questions from the cops."
I stared at CWL for a minute before blinking. "Uhh...ok. Thanks, I think." With that, I turned and walked out, CWL calling after me, "And come by anytime! Maybe she'll run into the others!" With that, I walked out the door, following CWL's instructions on how to get out of the forest, Vangreth hovering behind me the whole way.
As we walked back into town, Vangreth sent me a thought. It was a sad emoticon, and she emitted a low hum, like the rumbling of a stomach. I stopped and turned towards her. "What, are you hungry?" The sad face turned into a happy one, and I sighed. "Well...go find someone to eat, but hurry up, and be careful not to get caught." She drifted off, disappearing into an alley.
A moment later, there was a scream, and a Vangreth's glow came out from the alley's mouth. Soon after, the aura reappeared by my side, making a clear noise like the humming of a tuning fork.
We eventually got to my house. I paused outside the door, turning to Vangreth. "Just two rules: Do NOT eat my kids or pets, and don't bring your food inside the house! I don't want to go through the trouble of hiding the body." Cue the smiley face.

12/14/04 - Arrpee Session
Although Inle had said that she was never going in the woods again, she found herself in them once more, drawn towards them at the insistence of Vangreth. The aura had been emitting a high-pitched whine all day, showing her guardian visions of her dead children and pets. When Inle had asked Vangreth what she wanted, images of CWL's house had come to mind.
Grudgingly, she followed the aura into the forest; hopefully this time, with Vangreth as her guide, she wouldn't get lost. Sure enough, they soon came to the house, and Vangreth circled above Inle as she knocked on the door.
CWL looked up from her book of recipes. A memory of a half-heard sound echoed in her head, and it wasn't until it was repeated that she realized that she was hearing someone a-rapping on her door.
She abandoned her search of the perfect cannibalistic recipe for shin's christmas gift and made her way through the scattered crayons Deka had left on the floor after his coloring session. She spared a glance at the happy, blinding picture of a yellow lion before continuing to the door.
The icy weather seeped into the crack of the door when CWL opened it, and she was tempted to slam it shut to keep warm. Instead, she peered outside. Her gaze fell on another woman on her porch. Again, a memory poked at her brain, but she couldn't remember it for the life of her.
"Hello? Were you tapping?"
Inle instinctively drew her coat closer around her as Vangreth's motions stopped at the side of her head. "Um...yeah," she said hesitantly. "Vangreth's been kinda antsy lately. She wanted to come here, and she said that if I didn't bring her, she would eat my family or something. I dunno, her images have been kind of blurry lately."
Vangreth moved in front of Inle's face, and the woman batted at her as if to get her out of the way. Her hand went right through the aura, however, and Van's hum grew louder and more insistent. She sent CWL an image of a sad emoticon.
CWL blinked at the little aura, then raised an eyebrow at Inle-roo. "Did you...I dunno....FEED her, or anything?"
Inle's head dipped regretfully. "I went out with her when she fed once, just to make sure she would be alright. She seemed to be fine and happy and whatnot, so I left her to herself after that. She's gone out several times since then, and when she comes back she glows brighter, so I don't think it's that."
Van sent the pair images of a person applauding, and then a group of clapping hands, followed once more by the sad emoticon.
CWL, in the way of all people who are Not Quite There, blinked again. She was getting mixed messages from the emoticons, but supposedly (if her reasoning was Still There) Vangreth had fed, and that wasn't the problem, but the aura was still bitchin.
"Perhaps you need to come inside." She stepped back, opened the door wider, then walked back towards her sitting room without looking back.
Inle nodded, quickly stepping in and shutting the door. Vangreth had followed CWL, circling around her like a friendly cat might wind around its owner's ankles. Inle had a vague feeling of dejavu, and rightly so; she had only been here about a week ago, only this time, the circumstances were much different. She perched herself on the edge of the chair.
Vangreth floated between them, from one to the other. As she did so, she showed the pair a series of images: first, images of a sad-looking neko child, a green-haired child with wings coming out of his head, and a pale baby, with purple hair and snow-white wings. These were followed by a happy face. Then, she showed them an image of the homeless man she had eaten the first night she had been with Inle, and a few more pictures of normal looking people, followed by a sad face.
Inle sighed. "She keeps showing me these things, but I don't know what they mean. I've already told her that she can't eat my kids."
CWL smiled at the floating aura before settling down into an understuffed couch and concentrating on the images Vangreth was sending.
"These are your kids?" CWL fell into quiet contemplation. If Vangreth was just showing images of her surroundings, then nothing was wrong. Maybe the sad face meant someone was picking on her? ...But the thought of two little children picking on a ravenous flesh eating windigo ten times older than they were was quite ridiculous, and alltogether unlikely. There was only one conclusion CWL could find.
"I think she wants to either eat or possess your children."
Inle's jaw dropped, although she had sort of suspected it all along. Now that she thought about it, the kids DID have a tendency to avoid her, except for Ephenrix who still couldn't bring himself to care either way.
Vangreth's hum grew into a higher pitched whine. The aura floated towards Inle, circling around her head like an affectionate cat twines through its owner's legs. She showed both women images of Inle herself, and then a <3 symbol. Afterwards came an image of a barely school-age child, floating in the air. A giant straw came from out of nowhere and plunged itself into the child's chest, and an image of Vangreth appeared and literally sucked the flesh, fluid, and spirit from the kid, leaving it a withered husk.
The images vanished, and the aura settled itself upon Inle's lap. "Do...Windigos have a thing for kids, or something?" Although CWL had explained to her the basics, she still found herself confused as a whole.
CWL shrugged "Usually they go for people in their prime, such as people in their twenties. Sometimes they go younger, depending on the personal tastes. But I've never seen a windigo go for such young specimens. Unless..." She peered at the aura that was twining its way around Inle-Roo.
"Well, it seems to have a personality that would fit...." She mused, eyeing the friendly windigo.
Inle looked worried. "Great," she thought to herself, "I've got the Peewee Herman of Windigos." CWL's last statement brought her back to reality. "Unless what?"
"Well..." She began, shifting her weight and getting a gleam in her eye as she leaned forward. "She has the personality of a descendant of Wagosh." Her face split into a grin. "Which is actually a bit unique, since they tend to be weakest among the windigo, and are thusly consumed." OOh, poor girl. She was going to have to nurse a bullied child. CWL snickered, and settled back into her seat, grabbing a lollipop from the low table nearby and unwrapping it carefully.
Vangreth shot off of Inle's lap, coming to a halt mere inches away from CWL's face. She was humming angrily, her light glowing brighter than Inle had ever seen it. To CWL alone, she showed images of a previous form: long limbs, tipped with deadly claws, lifting what appeared to be hunters bodily and ripping them apart. A paw reached out, grasping one by the head and squeezing it until it was squished like so many grapes. Some she ate, others were killed for fun, but all of their spirits were consumed.
A fast forward in the scene saw the seasons change, a full year going by before the vision ended. A whispered voice entered the room, its sibilant tone saying, "Not...of Wagosh. Of Magan...silly child." Another vision then, again of Vangreth's previous form. Beside her was the broken, though still living, form of a man, what looked to be his wife slain before him. In her deadly hand she held an infant; the hunter's child. As the hunter looked on in horror, Vangreth tore the child's head from the body, proceeding to eat it as one might an apple before consuming the rest of it. Once finished with her snack, she turned and slowly walked away, the shrill screams of the man echoing in her ears.
Cruelly, she smiled. The disjointed voice called out again. "Understand?"
Throughout this picture show CWL lounged back, licking her lollipop. Living with Shin had taken the edge out of near death experiences for her.
"Vangreth, dear, you cannot fool me. Windigo do not measure their strength against humans. They measure their strength against other windigo. I am human, I know you could kill me. But Shin, and Aubrey, and the others, they are the ones you need to measure yourself against." The lollipop was pulled from CWL's mouth with a pop.
"As for Maigan, she breeds emotionless types." CWL stared at the aura pointedly, gesturing a lemon lollipop in its direction. "Demens, I think, is one of hers. You are either Wagosh's child, or a far removed relative of Maigan. Your aura does not blind me as Shin's did."
Inle glanced from the aura, to CWL, and back again. She had not been privvy to her aura's movie. "What uh...just happened?" she asked, painfully slow on the uptake. "...was that her talking? I didn't think she could do that."
Vangreth's glow had subsided somewhat, and she began circling CWL, her hums almost contemplative. A stream of flowing, calligraphical text entered the woman's mind. "You are wise...not like the others. It is intriguing, to me. And you are right: my glow is not now what it used to be. Far too long have I been without a suitable host, and I have suffered for it. Inle does not understand as you do. She expects me to be content, feeding off of mere humans. I need--crave--the magic hidden inside the shamans of old, but they are no more. I seek out new magics, but these are different times, and such power is not as easily found.
Your belief in my descent is nothing to me, mortal. You will see, soon enough." A smiley faced emoticon appeared. "I like you. You get to live another day."
CWL stuck her lollipop back in her mouth. "Twas a pissing contest between two species" She garbled around the candy. "All is good. I think she's worn out from speakin, though." Her attention focused back on the aura.
"Wise? Nope. Just quick on the uptake. Shin has told me a lot about the windigo, and an elephant never forgets." Her head bobbed sagely. "And your posturing in front of me does not dissuade me from my theory. When Shin gets back, he will be able to tell me for sure." CWL's gaze bore into the depths of the aura, before she beamed at it.
"Yeup, I think she's alright. Nothing serious. I recommend getting a babysitter for your kids while she finds a host. She seems to be on the market, as it were. Now..." CWL began, standing up from her chair. "I have creatures to see to. I trust you know where the door is?" She intoned with a raised eyebrow, before twirling and stalking off into the depths of her lair.
Inle blinked bemusedly at both woman and aura. She hadn't SEEN Vangreth do much of anything, but...well, she was willing to take CWL's word on it. As CWL left, she stood, calling out, "Uh...thank you!" She stood to leave, Vangreth already drifting towards the door.
"What was that all about?" she asked the aura as the two left, walking through the dimly lit forest. She got no response, and she frowned. Inle sighed, and the two went home.
Vangreth had changed since that night. Where she had once avoided Inle's young wards, she now went out of her way to harrass them, resulting in numerous crying fits on their parts. On one of these occassions, Inle snapped.
She glared at the aura, eyes narrowed. "What the hell is WITH you lately, Van?! You know you're not supposed to bother the kids!"
The aura's disjointed voice rang through the room. "Need...their power..."
Inle scowled at the aura, not budging an inch. "You can't HAVE their power! Look...I know of a place, alright? If I take you there, you HAVE to leave the kids alone...deal?" The aura bobbed in place, as if nodding.
Reluctantly, Inle trudged out the door, leading the aura to what looked to be an abandoned warehouse. Inside, however, was a party: bodies crammed into the large space, and none of them were natural. The aura sent Inle an evil looking smiley face before floating through the door. As Inle walked away, she could hear franting screaming coming from the building.
Vangreth came home near sunrise, her glow now like a tiny sun. She settled herself on a chair near Inle's bed, and a soft, content sigh rippled through the room.

I'd be worried about Van, if she weren't a flesh-eating demon. She's been away from the house more and more lately, and days will go by when she doesn't return at all. I know she's been feeding, because when I DO see her, she's glowing brightly. I can't bear to look at her sometimes. She avoids the children more than ever these days..."to resist temptation," she told me. I don't understand what she means. I know her tastes, and she's supposed to know her limitations. Maybe imposing such limitations on her is asking too much. Maybe I should be more careful with the kids.
Is she really looking for a host, as CWL said? If so, I pity the person she chooses. When I asked Vangreth what she had shown CWL that night, she showed me, and I regretted it. I spent about an hour bowing to the porcelain god. I don't understand how any creature, no matter how malevolent, can cause such wanton destruction like that for no other reason than fun. Will her host be aware of what she does, when she's possessed a body?
I have never been a coward, but now...now, I have a reason to fear.

Vangreth has stayed at home for the past week or so. While she does go out to feed, she doesn't stay out as long as she used to, nor does she return shining as brightly. I'd be worried, but there seems to be no change in her personality; she still doesn't like anyone but me, although she's beginning to tolerate the children as long as they don't come too close.
Speaking of which, it's the oddest thing: Eki seems to be utterly fascinated with Vangreth. I don't know if it's her shinyness or what, but he keeps crawling around the house, following her everywhere. Her angry humming noises don't seem to put him off like they do everyone else, either. It just makes him giggle. I've always known my child was a bit off, but...hmm. I guess I should keep a close eye on them both, just to make sure.

1/19?/05 - RP Recap (Not complete)
Pyralis stepped in to the shop, hopping to find CWL lurking somewhere. She had research to do, and Perri wasn't helping at all. She was practically a mother, wasn't she? Didn't that mean she was required to know everything? The windigo huffed to herself and set the few books and sheaf of printouts she'd been able to find on the subject of ancient windigos on the coffee table by the couch, slipping behind the main counter to investigate the shop's small library for possible leads.
Inle was out on her daily errands, Vangreth floating beside her head. The aura had taken to sticking close to her after she had frightened Inle's Kuatalmot wisp away from its constant position at her side, as if trying to tell it that Inle was HER human, dammit. The pair was passing the shop, although Inle was unaware of such, when Vangreth began to buzz insistently in her ear.
Inle paused, turning towards the aura. "What?" she asked. Vangreth responded by projecting an image of an arrow turning back towards the shop into Inle's mind, and the woman blinked. "You want to go shopping?" she guessed, receiving a mental green light as a response. Inle rolled her eyes, taking Vangreth's insistence as just another odd quirk of the Windigo and headed towards the shop, pushing the door open.
A huge load of books in her arms, Pyralis went back to the table and plopped down on the floor next to it. She spread the books and papers in a protective moat around her, and then began to sift through them for useful information. Perri did research like this too - and it drove the more organized Rene up the wall. Making a mess at least made work like this slightly fun.
She heard the door open and called over her shoulder, not looking up from her book, "Aunty Lunacy?"
Inle paused a few feet into the shop, letting the door close behind her. She quirked a brow. Lunacy, the as-of-yet unseen person had said? As in...Clockwork? Suddenly, Van's desire to visit the shop made sense.
"Uh...no, sorry," Inle called back, looking around for the source of the voice. Van had floated ahead of her, stopping above the counter. Without warning, her glow intensified, seeming harsh in the dim light of the shop. Inle squinted against it, walking towards the aura, wondering it was upset about now. She approached the counter and peered over it, able to make out a human-shaped sillhouette. "Hi?" she offered.
Pyralis turned her head and looked up, smiling at the new human and aura. "Hello! I'm Pyralis."
She stood, dropping her book and putting out a hand to shake as Perri had taught her. "It's nice to meet you! I'm a windigo - who's your aura?"
Inle blanched as she got a clear view of the Windigo; from what Vangreth had shown her, she had thought Windigos would look...well, not as pretty as this one did, that's for sure. Maybe there was hope yet...
Inle broke out of her musings, shaking Pyralis' hand, smiling faintly. "I'm Inle, and this," she gestured at the aura above her as she broke the handshake, "is Vangreth." Polite, too; not at all like the demonic killers she had envisioned. It was a pleasant surprise, to be sure.
Vangreth lowered herself to hover in between the pair, making an almost angry, high-pitched hum.
"Nice to meet you, Inle. Vangreth! I remember you! We were auras together, a while ago. It's good to see another one of my redou again." She smiled at both of them, ignoring the aura's apparent displeasure.
"Can I help you two with anything?"
Vangreth seemed to calm down at the acknowledgement, her glow dimming a little, becoming more soothing than garish. "Hi," her disjointed voice said after a moment, and she dimmed a bit more.
Inle's smile widened a bit. "Likewise...actually, I'm not sure why we're here. We were passing by and Van told me she wanted to come here, so here we came. You mentioned Lunacy...as in CWL?"
"Yup! I was hoping she'd be here, since I have some questions for her regarding research I've been doing into the Three Sisters, specifically Wagosh. She's usually helpful in pointing out good books to read."
She nodded to the aura and put out her palm. "How are you, sister?"
Inle tilted her head to the side. She remembered someone mentioning a Wagosh, but she couldn't place where and in regards to what at the moment. "The three sisters...is that a Windigo thing?"
Vangreth floated lower still, until the outer edges of her aura barely brushed Pyr's hand. Her hum was content, and she projected writing into her mind as she had into CWL's many weeks ago. "I am well enough, I suppose," she 'said,' her words emerging as flowing script.
Pyr nodded. "I call them that, don't mind me. Makwa, Maigan and Wagosh, the first three windigo. I'm a very direct decendant of Wagosh it seems, so I'm doing the best I can to learn all about her and the other two." She had another more pressing reason as well, but decided to leave it out so as not to worry the human.
Well enough? What upsets you? she sent back to Vangreth, using the flowing words her mind worked in now.
Wagosh...oh, she remembered now! "CWL said that Van might be a descendant of Wagosh too!" Vangreth flared briefly at the unwelcome reminder. "That seems like fun, though, kinda. Like a supernatural history lesson."
The human's inhabitance is filled with creatures who hold such power, in their own ways...and she denies me a taste. Were she not my caretaker, I would eat them all in front of her, and then probably eat her too. I feel a strange sense of loyalty to her, however, and this prevents me from doing so. How have you fared, since last we met?
"It's very surreal." Pyralis frowned, trying to explain. "It's as if all the things I read I already knew, but I couldn't remember them until I saw them written down. It makes it a little hard to concentrate."
Greed does not suit one of us, for power or anything else. Pyralis responded. And I am quite well, being a full windigo now and well cared for by my own human guide.
Inle nodded as if she understood. "Kind of like dejavu? Or a...past life what'sit?"
Vangreth emitted what might pass for a snort, if she were human, or at least not a glowing ball of light. This has little to do with greed, and in Inle's household, power isn't an issue. I've been craving more...unique flesh as of late, and those children tempt me so. She floated upwards a bit, slowly circling Pyralis once before settling again on her hand. It's nice to see one of us grown, at least. I haven't seen the others in quite some time, have they grown as well?
"Memories from when I was an aura. It's hard to recall things that happened then, as aura's don't really think they way human of windigo minds do. I need a trigger for anything to surface." She smiled, glad to find someone who didn't just blink skeptically at her like Perri did.
Ghost Fire has grown fully, I believe, but I have not met her yet. Beyond that, there is me as fire windigos go. She considered the arua for a moment, before continuing. We are meant to eat human flesh. To do otherwise would not do you well.
"Too much of a time lapse, too, I would imagine," Inle mused. "Maybe visiting the place of your...creation, I guess? That might help," she suggested.
Vangreth seemed to smirk inwardly. I realize that. This flesh intrigues me enough to test that...but it is a moot point. The little brats mostly avoid me, anyway. Fire windigos, you say...CWL mentioned others. Have you met them?
Pyralis suppressed a shiver. "I have no wish to visit the frozen lands."
Yes. I was friends with one of the wanderers, before we changed. Now...we shall see. She smiled at the aura. If you eat everyone you see, how do you ever propose to find a host?
Inle was curious about these frozen lands, but decided, based on Pyr's reaction to the suggestion, not to question her about it. "Well, Van doesn't do anything all day except eat people and scare my kids, so if you need her help at any point, it's there." She smiled, enjoying the prospect of being without one floating ball of light or another by her side, if only for a little while.
Vangreth penned a happy face, taking her sister's teasing in stride. Slowly but surely I will find a host. Good things come to those who wait, and all that drivel.
color=darkred]"I think I'll be all right." Pyralis smiled. "It's not hard work, just long and a bit dull."
Good things come to those who go seek them out and don't take no for an answer, in my exsperience. She quipped back. So, you are of Wagosh's blood as I am?
Inle nodded. "I can imagine...well, actually, I can't, not being a windigo and all, but I can imagine the research, at least, would be boring."
I have not yet found a suitable host, is all. One cannot be too hasty with these kinds of decisions. Vangreth's text slowed, and her next response was answered tentatively. ...yes, she wrote, as if she wasn't sure, or as if there was something behind her answer that she didn't choose to expand upon.
"Perri claims it's actually quite fun, but she has funny habits." She glanced at the aura. "Hopefully Vangreth hasn't been too much trouble?"
Then we are sister in more than one way. Pyralis responded warmly. It is the best way, I think.
"Well, she hasn't eaten any of my kids yet, although most of them are afraid of her, so that's a good sign. And she's been good about not bringing her food home, and really, that's all I ask of her. She's...as much of a sweetie as one could expect, I suppose, from a flesh-eating aura-'o-doom." Inle smiled fondly at Vangreth.
If Vangreth was capable of blushing or slapping Inle, she might have done one or the other, if not both. Shows how much she knows. And...family is good to have, I suppose. Her writing had faltered for a moment, as if she was trying to convince herself of that fact.
Pyralis giggled. "Just wait, some day she'll be a heap big windigo of doom like me!"
She waved a hand at the aura, a bit amused. Caring does not equal weakness, you know.
"Yeah, about that..." Inle scratched behind her neck, a sheepish gesture. "I know Windigos eat people and have nifty powers and all, but...that doesn't change once you guys evolve, does it? I'm not going to have to keep her locked up should she decide to go on a killing spree, right?"
It has little to do with caring. I have not had a family since the redou, and suddenly being among all these others is...disconcerting, to say the least. It will certainly take some getting used to.
Pyralis laughed cheerfully. "That depends on Vangreth, really. We all must eat to live. Killing-sprees come from something else within the personal windigo. But since she is of Wagosh, I would tend to say no. We care for humans more than the rest."
A solitary one, hmmm? I myself have always liked groups and family, so there was little acclimation to be done.
Inle breathed a sigh of relief. "That's good, at least." She glanced at the bobbing aura. "She doesn't really seem to care about people; rather, she seems to reluctantly co-exist with them. But as long as she doesn't wind up going postal, it's all good, I suppose."
Did they look upon you with fear, as my surrogate siblings do me? Did they run screaming from the room, or burst into tears? Granted, most of them are little more than newborns, and they are right in fearing me, but...it gets damn irritating after awhile. Damnable, tasty-looking little brats.

3/13/05 - Narrative
It was dark, and Vangreth was on the prowl. Her prey tonight was male, tall and lean, dressed simply. He looked average, like everyone else Van had encountered. He looked like someone that nobody would miss. He had just gotten off work, and made the almost too-perfect mistake of taking a shortcut through a dark alley.
Perfect.
The man didn't even have time to scream before the aura that was Vangreth began sucking him dry from the inside out. All at once, he seemed to grow thinner as his flesh and organs were devoured, leaving him little more than a dried skeleton, now-sallow skin stretched tightly over protruding bones. His mouth was open slightly as if in surprise at his own untimely death, and the clothes that had fit him so well only a moment before now draped over his sticklike form--a modern day death shroud.
All in all, Vangreth was pleased.
Her glow was just a bit brighter as she exited the scene of her latest kill, pausing at the mouth of the alley. To go home, or to prowl some more, looking for the host she knew she needed? She opted for the latter and began to search the streets again...only this time, she was looking for a much different type of prey.
