DMing is serious business. If you think you have what it takes and want to DM send me a PM, you must have the following qualifications: - Patience: As a DM you will have to deal with many elements at once, losing you're cool could make the experience less favorable for others.- Multi-Tasker: While Dming you will need to keep track of enemies, players, dungeons, npc's and many other elements. Most of the time you'll be dealing with two or more of these at once.- Calm/Laid Back:If someone makes a mistake, such as breaking your rules, being a poor role player, or any other issue, you can't go all berserk on them and be up in their face. Just explain to them what they did wrong and let the campaign continue.- Decent Role player: As a DM it's not only your job to make sure the rules are followed, control npc's, and maintain many game mechanics, you also must be able to role play fairly well. You need to bring the game to life! For example... one DM may describe a room as such... ...You enter the dungeon. It is very dark, and therefor hard to see. You hear some noise coming from the end of the room...Obviously there are many things wrong with that... a better DM would try something more along the lines of......You finally reach the bottom of the stairs which serves as the entrance for the massive room that awaits you. As you enter, the smell of death becomes noticeable, but you push on doing your best to ignore it. While walking about the room you suddenly hear a noise from the end of it, you try gazing into the distance but the darkness overwhelms your sight....Even that is not perfect, but it creates an image much stronger than the first description. But don't think setting up the scene is your only role playing, you also have to role play every npc, perhaps some hob goblins yell things at the players as they fire bolts from their crossbows. Maybe you even can strike amazing dialogue as a villain, it's all up to your skill and your creativity. Planning ahead never hurt.- Resists Power Trips: While DMing you may control every npc, the creatures the players encounter and many other elements but you are not god! Don't abuse your power's because DMing is a privilege not a right, and can be easily taken away.- Doesn't favor friends: When you're giving out loot that the players found on an enemy don't always make the best loot go to your friend. Favoring specific players leads to a less enjoyable play overall, and people will catch on quickly.- Balanced DM style: Don't be a relentless DM who intentionally tries to kill players, but at the same time don't be the DM who doesn't make the game easy. Players remember campaigns for their epicness and challenge. Make the battle's challenging, but not impossible.- Plans Ahead: Plan ahead!! Don't just wing it every single day, planning out encounters and events might lead to more favorable game play for everyone. Planned out campaigns also happen to run smoother than ones that just go freely. - No Freebies: Do not, under any circumstances give out freebies. Players should work for their loot, or purchase it themselves. This list will be edited! In the abyss we are looking for the best possible DM's, not DM's who will make the game less enjoyably and handout free loot. Current DM's: Sander Cohen92 Maia Hart SI_L_EXE

That's just something that takes a little practice. I would recommend making a campaign, and I'm sure one of our current Dms can help you with that as it moves along.

Things rarely seem to follow the plan, but that's half the fun. If you're interested, please, feel free.

One quick question...i never really realized question had the word quest in it till now...anyways!about that QUESTion...wow...I'm stupid XD
nvm...I answered it myself...lol but anyways ( i know it says pm...ill do that at a later date, after this post...sometime...)
Im a damn good DM, but I always play with some unique rules. Im big time on role-playing, and realistic settings. For example, after a while of partying together, two people become friends, one might attempt to protect the other from harm, I would allow them to attempt to take the damage from an enemy, if they are close enough, instead of another character, they would have to roll against the enemies attack, and if they won, they may take the hit instead. (its a bit more realistic than everybody standing around drooling, as the wizard gets hit by the troll, gets knocked out,and nobody budges...not even to push him/her out of the way.
And good roleplayers always get the better rewards. especially if they role-play in dangerous situations(like i do) I was playing a unique campaign once, where I was a minotaur...and my intelligence..sucked...I was known as the meat shield, and I would knowingly walk into traps, or even once, because I wanted to buy a new weapon, I ripped a shops door of its hinges, even though they were closed...unfortunantly that town, made by the dm, was known for its explosives and well defended houses...boom goes the minotaur...again, and again...and again...the drow wizard, and the winged elf multiclasser had known that...but they found it fun to watch the minotaur go boom, as they knowingly let the rogue convince me to open the doors for him...(by the time that group broke up, ironically the minotaur had managed to become a lawful good knight...not what i intended >_> lol, and yes i took damage, and i died 3 times in that campaign, twice because of role-playing.. )
