..The Beginner's Guide to Issay, Radioactive Rogue..
Hello, and welcome to Issay's journal, or as I like to call it, his wrap sheet. Issay is, for lack of a better term, completely and utterly insane. Judging from his coloring, he may have once been a pretty normal, down to earth, practical archaic type of hyena until his pregnant mother wandered a little too near a rather toxic area. Okay, well, that happens a lot around here, hence the rather tweaked general hyens population. But after he was born Issay found a few more bad spots to explore. Say... nine or ten? Now he's permanently covered with the toxic stuff, and his legs are so soaked they glow a soft, eerie green at night. Did I mention he tore through his pack like wet tissue paper? As I have mentioned, this boy is nuts. It isn't that he's a good fighter, it's that as long as he can move something he isn't going to stop trying to kill something. He's kind of like a zombie in that respect - Issay cannot be discouraged and doesn't take no for answer. Also, he talks to himself. A lot. And refers to himself in third person. Probably because he thinks he's being haunted by his dead mother, a raindancer. Why are you looking at me like that? I've said multiple times that he's bloody bonkers. And anyway, she might be. He's always been able to hear others before they speak and learn words they've never said...
Issay does not like company. Other hyena's have thoughts, and thoughts hurt Issay. They cut through his mind like knives, especially when in groups. They make his dead mother angry, and you wouldn't like her when she's angry. Although a lone hunter Issay is well fed because a)he has that whole won't ever ever stop coming once he's decided to kill something and b) he's, well, a cannibal when he can manage it. He likes the taste of other hyenas. When he eats their hearts, they come and haunt him too, and the more ghosts he has with him the less living thoughts can get through to his mind and hurt him. So If Issay starts tracking you it's not to come say hello. He prefers normal or lone hyenas for this purpose, as fellow rogues are competition for hearts and must be killed on sight. What he truly dreams of, though, is finding a raindancer. For his mother says that a raindancer can heal him for good, so the bad thoughts can't get in and hurt him anymore. So he roams the wastelands, building up his ghost-sheild and searching for his salvation...
This world is full of bad places, and Issay is one of them.
...Others and Non-Others... Issay thinks of pretty much every other hyena in existance as an 'other'. The live in the healthy, green places that he wants nothing to do with, and are alternately avoided at all costs and hunted into death.
Non-others are the few hyenas that Issay knows the names of. Currently the only members if this group are his dead mother's ghost and Mvyma, the cub he just kidnapped under mum's orders.

..The Beginner's Guide to Felawni, the Lackluster Ladyship..
Have you noticed I like alliteration? Yes? Excellent! Moving on.
This is also the written dwelling place of Felawni, an old tawny soldier. Fel is a good fighter with a strong back, but has never been interested enough in social climbing or presteige to seek a position as a baroness. Her main thought is protecting her clan, and she prefers to be out on the grasslands doing exactly that. Having seen many a year and battle pass by, Fel is no longer the shy but aloof adolescent of her youth: now she's downright lonely and retiring. A good soldier, she enjoys losing herself in her duties and mainly spends time with other ladyships planning more patrols. She's still a secretly nice person though, and has a soft spot for cubs big enough she'll put up with their antics. Fel avoids other hyenas mainly to avoid conflicts - she's a good, smart fighter but does not actively seek confrontation - and social climbers. Despising bravado and ambition as stupid things that only get people killed, she has no time for baronesses and barely puts up with courtiers. And though she avoids squires most of the time and devotes her life to the work of guarding her clan, something about the soft way she looks at the cubs when she forgets herself makes you think Fel almost wishes she had children of her own.
