Picture Drawn by MeSince the time of the creation of the holy city, a divine barrier has kept it safe from all denizens of the dark depths. For the longest, the demons of Hell have simply accepted this.
Recently, however, something has stirred the dark creatures into coveting the riches of the castle, and the riches of the land. And so they are in search of a way to break the barrier and tear down the kingdom.
And so the question arises... What exactly is a demon? To be frank, a demon, a true demon, is an evil spirit manifested in the form of a beast. They differ in species and appearances. Some look like ordinary humans, others terrifying beasts.
The dwelling place of demons is in the dark depths of the underworld, what most have come to know as Hell.
With this ongoing rise of demons on the Holy Grounds, the Holy lands may suffer the fate of total eradication and assimilation into the demon plane. The only hope in preventing such a cataclysmic disaster rests on the shoulders of the Knights of Light, but with their leader no where to be found, rumors of a war going on, and the other happenings of the world carrying on, does the Holy City really have a chance?Episode 1

Arriving from the Holy City Gabrielle reached the limit of the barrier quickly. It was dark night. The woman was still shaking from the feeding a couple of hours ago. She was a human, a Holy Knight, but thirst was starting gaining her more and more frequently. Although she only needed to drink blood once every six months, it was already far too much for the woman.
She found a big tree and sat at its foot. She did not need fire, she needed sleep and peace. Taking her cross and the cameo in her hands, she started praying. My Lord...I am your humble servant...I know that You sent me this ordeal...I shall not fail you...Please protect my sinful soul... she prayed during hours, until her body fell from fatigue. Then a peaceful sleep came to her until the dawn.

Its funny. There's a saying that goes "Its always darkest before dawn." I don't particularly remember where I heard it from, and I've never looked outside to see, but it seems to hold true. The thing is, I think the saying isn't meant to be taken literally. Dark can mean so many different things, and usually, its all about evil sorta crap. Who's the boso that said dark has to mean evil, anyway? Is it because no one knows what lies in the dark, so they assume the worst? People have always been afraid of what they don't know, so I guess that's the only plausible explanation, but you know what they say about assuming... it makes an a** outta u and me.
Every night, this particular fellow has sat on the outskirts of the castle walls. Hidden well within the shadows, he watches over all. Hardly anything manages to get past him.
One who knew him would go as far to wonder why he spends so much time out here. He's never set foot inside of the city ever since he left, but for some reason, he doesn't particularly want to move on.
In his heart, he feels rather empty, and from the few glimpses you can see of his face, he reflects that feeling of emptiness quite well. In fact when others see him, all they really can make out his well built masculine body covered up by a black, ruggedly worn hooded cloak.
A few moments pass by, and the man figures that night time's darkest hour has finally arrived. If that saying holds true, dawn is just around the corner, which means he'd best be going.
They're probably waiting for me.
A thick black fog encroaches around his being: Darkness in the form of a Vapor. Instead of freaking out or reacting in a surprised manner, he accepts it, the shadows hand. As he allows the black mist to consume him, his body gradually fades until finally disappearing completely from sight.
And just like the saying goes, dawn breaks. The morning sun gently arises shining its golden light on all those in the vicinity.

Gabrielle woke up with the first lights of dawn. She felt nauseous. She always felt so after feeding. She hated feeding. The taste of blood in her throat made her want to vomit. Her overall body felt sore. She had slept in a wrong position. She sighed. She tried to forget the hunt from the previous night. Putting a hand in her pocket she retrieved the cameo which the woman had given her as a thank. "If only she knew..." she whispered.
She slowly walked to a little river she was hearing. She quickly removed her cape and clothes, leaving her blades in reaching distance. The morning was fresh. The pale sun was not strong enough to warm her up. She let herself enter the cold water. The liquid was very cold, waking up all her senses. She had always loved water. She felt cleaner. The blood smell leaving her. She immersed herself totally, washing her dark hair. The cold was putting pressure on her chest and lung, even her legs and arms seemed to hurt. She knew that she would have to get out of the water soon. Just a little more...
Her eyes were closed. Under water everything was so peaceful, so quiet. No one cared who she was, what she was. Under the surface, her hand by reflex touched her mark on her shoulder. She could not feel anything on that particular point. No feeling...this is already dead...

Quite a while goes on without anything weird happening. The day just started, so the morning, mountainous breeze is fresh within the air. It has that notable chilling feeling, but for those used to these mountain slopes, it's nothing much to be upset about. After all, it could always be worse.
In the following moments, that hooded fellow makes his appearance yet again. Trudging through the snow of white, endless slopes and hills to his right, he marches onward. His destination remains a mystery for quite the longest, and when he finally arrives, it looks more or less like he just walked from one rocky hill to the next.
Nothing seems to be waiting for him, other than the shadow of an overlooking ledge. Having traveled a great distance, he finds it best to take a load off and take a seat. Soon after, the winds violently pick up in ferocity. About now, he's pretty thankful that the huge ledge he's under is where it is. Acting as a wind shield, he can place his mind at ease for the time being.
That sense of ease soon took its leave as his own shadow began to act on its own accord. Oh look, they're here. He thinks. The shadow merges with the shadow of the large rock and from it arises a dark... almost silhouette-like figure. Its shape is pretty sporadic... never managing to stay in one stance for longer than an instance of two seconds. Creepy, to say the least, but this dark figure doesn't seem to bother the hooded man at all, but even if it did, you wouldn't be able to tell. That hood of his practically hides all of his facial expressions.

Gabrielle emerged from the water all at once. The morning wind had to the overall coldness of her body. She grabbed her cape and used it to dry herself, quickly and vigorously. As the fabric touched her skin, colors came back to her flesh. In a minute she was ready to put her clothes back on. She could have used the winds to dry herself. But the normal way was as efficient. Her clothes gave her a feeling of warm and protection. She secured her belt with Aqual and then Eosy on her back. She took her time. There was no rush.
The events of the previous evening were still fresh in her mind, although they already started getting the veil of the past. She kneed for a morning prayer. Could she still call herself a Holy Knight after what she did? She felt dirty despite her bath. She squeezed the cross between her hands. Once again the question came to her mind Why...? WHY??! but as always ...no answer came. Just the silence. Just the soft sound of the winds and the water surrounding her. She closed her eyes, repressing a tear. She was strong. Too strong to cry. The tear never left her eye. She slowly raised. Shaking her head, to shake her thoughts.
She needed to focus. Where are the others...? I do not see anyone... She had expected other Holy Knights to join in the call to fight a potential invasion...But this forest seemed...empty...too empty. I should reach the 'barrier'...they might be there... She started walking, letting her steps lead her to the Holy barrier.
((do you have a description in mind of what the 'barrier' actually is or looks like?))

((Nope, not really. You can go ahead and make that part up.))
In truth, the man seems to have been expecting the arrival of the sporadic being. It's pretty clear he's unthreatened by it, and the shadow creature doesn't seem to bear any ill will towards the man in the least.
An air of silence continues sweeping across the lands. Nothing but the whooshing of solitude comfort the two, but though no words are spoken, it seems as if an entire conversation takes place, a talk without words, but more or less emotions, feelings. At one point, the hooded man scoffs in disbelief, as if the creature made a displeasing remark.
Their conversation soon comes to a close, ended by the hooded man's words, "Fine, we'll do it at three, earth time." Having no more reason to stay here, the creature breaks off into particles of mist, all to be blown away by the cold mountain air.
((Short post is short. I'm still not too sure where I wanna go with this. Ah well, might as well go with the flow.))

An ill wind brushed against the frail form of Zeh'Raftalla. It was void of warmth. Raftalla shivered, but not from the overwhelming chill, but rather from the rising excitement in his veins. This was not the wind, but a whisper from a powerful adversary of light. It mocked and threatened the holy knights, yet offered mercy to those who would surrender to the darkness. The boy grinned like a madman caught in the moment of his own horrid deed. I they offer mercy, but I will offer them nothing but despair. He would not show mercy or regret. Raftalla never had one or the other.
As much as he wanted to pursue the demons first, Raftalla knew his priorities. Not once had he met his own allies, and to pursue this threat alone was not an easy task. He would call upon them, if only this once. The boy pulled down the chest of his rode, and rested his hands over his heart. Threads of light swirled around his chest forming intricate designs.
"My heart is yours, Dark Maiden. Call upon my bretheren so the may stand by my side." The light burst from his chest, and the weaving itself into the form of a casket, then finally solidifying into its true form. The mythril maiden glimmered even in these dark times. The gears turned inside, causing the head of the maiden to lean upward. her mouth creaked open, and a burst of fire shot into the air, then exploded like a flare. Zeh' Raftalla pulled up the upper-half of his robe and grinned.
"Now the rest is up to them."

Miname made her way past the field clearing that led from the Holy City to the Holy Grounds. She hugged herself with her arms, rubbing them to try and conduct body heat to warm her in the frigid mountain air. She wished she brought her cloak with her, but their was a calling for a demon sighting near the Holy Grounds, and they were even taking beginner Holy Knights. She hadn't joined the ranks of the others for very long, still somewhat of an apprentice to the Knights but her special shark abilities moved her up pretty quickly. The problem was to try and interact with the older, more experienced knights, really not socializing with the others that often, usually off training instead. Looking around quickly, she did not catch any sights of the knights, so she tried picking up their electro-magnetic signals emnating from their bodies, but there was no luck. With the wind at this speed, there was no way she'd pick up anything. She shivered and her teeth chattered slightly, but trudged on, trying to keep herself as warm as possible.
After walking about 15 minutes, she picked up a heat source, then her cerulean eyes wandered to the sky watching that a flare like fire had appeared in the sky, smoke trailing to the ground where it was fired. She sighed with relief, knowing that it was a Holy Knight spell. Her face turned into a light smile, now from her slumped walk to a light sprint, trying to warm up her body, cold air relased from her breaths as she ran, hoping to catch up with the flare and the person who created it. As she ran, her holy metal sword clunked on her back, back and forth along with her dark metal cross bow, but distracted by where the flare was coming from.

((hope that works for you Neo smile ))
Gabrielle reached the Holy Barrier.
The Holy Barrier looked like a dome made of a mix of water, light and holy power. Only Holy Knights could actually see that dome, extending up to the high sky. Any creature of the darkness trying to pass through would feel itself burnt and consumed from the inside and would not be able to go far inside before collapsing of pain and dying.
The barrier had two weaknesses. Hopefully unknown to any dark lord or lady.
The first weakness was in its composition. The barrier was reacting to the feelings, thoughts and soul of the being crossing. There were signs in the soul of a dark member that somehow activated the barrier. However a new dark member, still 'pure', had the potential of passing the barrier without being affected. And a Holy Knight whose thoughts were turned to anger and just came out of a battle against evil, his soul deep in darkness also had the potential of being caught as a darkness creature while passing the barrier... But this flaw was keeping secret amongst the Holy Knight. Any holy knight knew that before passing the barrier, one should pray and ask for forgiveness while finding inner peace.
The second weakness was not a so well kept secret. The barrier was gathering its energy from the seven pillars which surrounded the Holy City. One pillar per virtue. Although the barrier would still work with one pillar down. If a second pillar were to fail...then they would all fail one after each other. The same way a human mind would fall into darkness if one of the seven virtues was not respected. And that was why the Holy Knights were in alert. The increasing number of attacks towards the pillars was raising worry. The location of the pillars had been kept secret. But it seemed that the location of at least three of them was now known to the force of darkness: Chastity, Temperance and Patience.
Gabrielle was currently headed towards Chastity. The one which had been attacked the most recently. She could now see the barrier. The flow of air and water mixed together created waves of colors in the sky. A beautiful sight for a Holy Knight.
She was about to reach the Pillar when she felt that she was not alone. Two other beings were in the surrounding. Putting her hand to her sword, she called. "Show yourselves!" That was not uncommon to meet half dying demon so close to the barrier, who were ready for a last fearsome fight. She got herself ready in case.

Elektra reached the Holy Grounds after a few hours and regretted not having a cloak with her. She hugged herself, trying to keep as warm as possible. Her bangs whipped around her face, poking and irritating her eyes very much. Desperately, Elektra brushed her bangs to the side and out of her eyes, her eyes watering from the poking of the sharp tiny ends of hair.
"Ugh...stupid wind. Now, where are the others?" Elektra said, cursing the wind and its harshness. Thoughtful, she tried to concentrate her mind on where the most damage on the barrier was. Finding it, she began to head in that direction, wanting to check it out and hopeful that she would run into some other Holy Knights like herself.
((More of the H.K.'s should join the Demon Invasion. Five H.K.'s can't fend off an army of Demon's all by themselves. Everyone would be dead if that happens. Neo, you should tell all H.K.'s to get their butts over here, lol. No offense to anybody!!))

((You are most certainly right! And Zulma, that was awesome.))
Now that that's over... This man has always been one to be weirded out by such creatures of darkness, which is in some ways strange, especially considering how well he embraces the ethereal mist. He always did take to more of a liking of the color black than white. Even as a child, he preferred to darken his demeanor on any given occasion. Most of the kids thought him weird, some thought of it as cool, but either way, he strayed away. He strayed away from both sides, the denizens of light and even the creatures of darkness. As he matured, he left the city. Why? He doesn't even know. The time came, and he just went for it.
It's kinda funny now that he looks back on it. Feeling as though he never belonged with the citizens, then leaving. Now he's working alongside those whom he particularly care little of to get back in. Why am I doing this anyway? He's also never been one to plan. He lives his life as it comes, accepting whatever it throws at him, and then turning back to either regret or be satisfied over it later.
Well, three o'clock is still a few hours away. I've already started, so I might as well finish it off.

((thank you... redface ))
Gabrielle made another step forward and spoke again. "Show yourself!" her voice was strong, no fear, rather annoyance. She slowly drew Eosy from her back. Her right hand was now holding her blade tightly. Why are they hiding...? she wondered.
She was ready to step forward again when she heard a human voice. A voice which she had heard before. She tried to recall. Raising an eyebrow she asked "Lady Elektra? Is that you?"
She tried to calm herself down. So close to the barrier, angry feeling could have damaging consequences on oneself or the barrier itself. She just breathed deeply and slowly. Although she kept her blade raised...Several people were around and they could very well be from different factions...

Elektra blinked and stepped out into Gabrielle's sight. Upon seeing the other Knight's blade raised, she smiled softly and stepped closer, hands up to show that she was no threat.
"I'm sorry, if I frightened you. It was not my intention to do such." she said, humbling herself a great deal. Elektra bowed her head to Gabrielle as a sign of sorry, also.
"Are you alright, Lady Gabrielle?" Elektra asked, suspiciously looking around the area to try and spot any approaching enemies. She gently eased her hand to the handle of her sword, in case it would be needed.
