  These pets were originally sold through our sister shop, Evercrest Mountains, located HERE, but it has since closed. You can now get them at this thread. These can be RP'ed, but nothing but visiting this thread until it is grown is required. More details about the rules are at the guild, HERE!
The name of these pets is Damphousse (dahm-foo-z). A single pet is a Damphousse (dahm-foo), but as this is difficult to pronounce without telepathy, one may simply call them NightRunners. A single pet is a Runner.
Nightrunners are the mortal enemies of Koivu, although they have sworn peace through the Cujo Treatice. The two groups rarely meet, especially because Koivu are diurnal and Damphousse are nocturnal. The Nightrunners don't interact with Koivu at all. Poofs have a long-standing grudge with the Runners, because the Runners are so mean-spirited and have a prejudice against all Koivu for no reason that they can discern.
Damphousse are nocturnal creatures that live in the heart of the Evercrest Mountains, south of Durem and the shop. They are a fierce, callous bunch, and will fight at the slightest provocation. Hence, they are in a very strict pack system, similar to wolves, where each and every night runner has its rank and location in the labrynth of caves that they inhabit.
The Damphousse will never interact with the Koivu without my permission first. If you have a situation in which you think they should, please PM me with your reasoning.
Damphousse communicate via telepathy, but also have Hyena laughter, and mock each other constantly. They see well in darkness; their sight goes into the near-infrared. Hence, Runners have red (or rarely gray, violet, or yellow) eyes. They live for the rush of a blind flight through the pitch blackness of the caves, and claim the skies outside as their own. They cannot swim well, but bathe in the underground rivers that flow through their caverns. They are omnivores, and feed on fruit and large mammals, which are usually killed in pack hunts. Damphousse do not eat birds.
Currently the creatures have four stages: eggs, kits, youths/pups, and adults.
Most Damphousse do not love their young: they teach them and train them to be adults. Kits are allowed to play games, hunt, and explore the caves. They can fly, but not for long before they tire.
There are four ranks a male can be: Omega, Soldier, Beta, and Alpha (from lowest to highest). Only one of these ranks, that of the Soldier, has sub-ranks, Soldier 5th-1st class (from lowest to highest). Once a male reaches adulthood, his rank is automatically that of Soldier, with no class. Once he joins a pack, his class will be based on the order in which he joined the pack. (So, if he was the third to join (not including the ones who will be Alpha and Beta) his rank would be Soldier 3rd class).
All females are considered princesses, although only a scattered few are adopted under the queen's wings upon the onset of youth, to be trained as a possible heir to the throne. Youth females are very catty, and war against one another constantly in order to gain favour with the queen.
Only the queen Damphousse may lay eggs, and she does not clutch, as newborn runners are ravenous and will tear apart anything resembling food when they hatch.

Background Damphousse InformationPacks are the natural divisions of the Damphousse. As they have no familial tendencies, this grouping supports the children as they grow into adulthood, and also acts as a bond of something close to friendship between the members. Each pack has one Alpha, Beta, and Omega. The soldiers all also have sub-ranks, Soldier 5th-1st class (from lowest to highest). As Damphousse are violent by nature, they go up in rank via controlled battles, which take place in the specified thread in the guild. Each pack has their own emblem designed by them, which hangs beside their barrack alcove. They have a unique name that reflects their own code and oath taken when they join. For new members to join, the leaders of packs who are interested in youths verbally (and sometimes physically) argue for First Rights to the youth. This means they may invite a youth to "sleep over" for a few nights, to see how well they get along with the pack. If he doesn't match with the first pack, the youth is passed to the next, and so on. If the youth accepts the pack, they are initiated through a set of secret rituals. Packs have "groupthink" which means that they can communicate to each other no matter where they are, and can also think simultaneously in events such as hunts. This ability is granted when an initiate is granted pack membership. None at the moment. They will be posted here as they are formed, and linked to their Pack Thread (or subforum?) at the Guild. Damphousse must be adults to breed, and one male and one female are needed currently. Typically Runners will have 2-4 kits in a litter for the purpose of this shop. Breeding for Damphousse is CLOSED! Cost for a breeding pair is 6k (10k for 1 cosplay mate, 20k if both are cosplays), and the price can be split between the parents-to be. Parents must decide how to split the kits up. They can be kept, given to a friend, or sold through Evercrest, with profits returned to the parents. Please fill out the following application and roll a 6 sided dice. The result will show how many kits you have: 1-2: 2 kits
3-5: 3 kits
6: 4 kitsBreeding Application Owner's Names: Pet's Names: Who will pay what?: Once the fee is paid in full, your pets will get together and clutch eggs. Because these are breedables, they will be the parent's babies, but you must remember that in RP, only the queen lays eggs, so consider the kits to be born of the queen there, please.

Q: Isn't the Queen the only one allowed to produce offspring?A: Yes, but the breeding is "non-cannon". Meaning the two Damphousse will produce kits, but in the roleplay, the kits will be the offspring of the Queen. Q:How many can I own? You can get up to three from flatsales, and may have four total, excluding any more gained from breedings. Special exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis. Q: What is a group called? I would say it's a skulk, since they are more like foxes than wolves... but a pack is also acceptable. Q: When do they get their telepathic powers? Damphousse begin their lives as small, agressive kits, that only can convey simple emotions and feelings. As a youth, they can begin to speak in sentences. Adults are fluent, and can also project images into another's mind. They also have the ablility to communicate to their pack no matter where they are, once they are initiated. The queen has the ability to speak to anyone she wants at any distance at any time. Q: OMG I'm not online. Don't take away my pet?! First off, I don't resell pets that are full grown. If yours is still a youngling, you may post here and at the proper place in the guild and let me know. If you do so, I will not resell your pet. Alternatively, if you know you'll never be able to post here, I suggest you don't buy one. Q: Oh no! I'm going away for a week and can't RP my Damphousse!Thats okay just tell us before you go and when you will be back. If you do that then there won't be a problem. Q:Can I breed Cosplays/Customs? If your Damphousse has done something that is punishable by death or removal of his or her wings, you, as the owner, get a choice which consequence your pet will recieve. Also, if your pet is in battle, and is loosing horribly, you can choose to say that her or she dies (otherwise, he or she will have some permanant severe injury, if the battle is going so badly that death is a possibility). And also, if you wish to kill off your Damphousse for some reason PM Anrea and Ninetails4 (and maybe Riftwing, too) before doing so for approval. In the PM, you must state why you wish to kill of your runner. So, to make sure we're clear, your pet can die as punishment, in rank battle, and if you have a reason. In all cases, though, the death is your choice. Q: OMG is the Queen ruler forever? That isn't fair!No, the Queen does not rule forever. Each Queen will reign for six months real time, before they will be forced to step down in the rp. (You may also find a way to kill your Queen off, if "she just isn't the type to step down!", but this still requires a PM to be sent to Anrea and Ninetails4.) The previous Queen will choose who will reign for the next six months, and so on.
