I'm just going to put in my two cents on roleplays based around Anne Rice's works. I have read from multiple sources that Anne Rice does not approve of fanfiction in any form. Roleplaying would be a form of fanfic, wouldn't it? Characters created by one person written by someone else...

So, I just wanted to say that I don't agree with anyone professing to be a fan of Rice's work participating in roleplays based on the VC or any of her other works.

NOTE: RPs based in a world like the one in which her characters reside would be different, though. As long as people aren't roleplaying her original characters...

I see your point and I recognize your right to your beliefs and opinions. But I don't see the harm in letting these people rp. Its fun for them. Its not like very many people are ever going to see it, or like its hurting someone.

Honestly, I don't see the actual harm in it, either. It's more the principle of respecting the author's wishes.

I'm not going to make a big to-do about it, I just wanted to give my two cents, as I said.

And, as I also said, if someone were to start an RP that took place in a Ricean world with Ricean-type characters, I would be all for joining in. ^_^

I'd also like to do and RP with VC-type characters, but no existing characters. I generally don't like VC-based RPs or fanfics (sans those that parody actual scripts, like some I found that go through the movies and point out the differences from the books), not so much out of respect for the author's wishes (though that's part of it). I just feel that generally, people can't portray an existing character nearly as well as they can one of their own creation. And with this particular fandom, to me, it seems too much like putting words in the vampires' mouths, if that makes sense? Anyway, if no one else will, I'll start one.

I don't write fanfiction of any sort, however I see role playing more as play acting for the purposes of entertainment rather than creating derivative work. I equate role playing to dressing up in a Halloween costume and pretending to be Frodo, Harry Potter, esc. Or pretending to be fictional characters like we did as children, raise your hand if you ever pretended to be superman/super girl, a princess (maybe a Disney one), or a type of animal.

Even if she doesn't like it, theres not much that can be done really. Though i must say at least we are doing it for entertainment and play then to insult her works like I've seen some people do. It human nature to want to pretend to be someone else at SOME point. and its fun, also i would join if someone created an RP
