A long day had pasted, and Seth was understandably exhausted after one of the most eventful 24 hours he’d had in a long time. He yawned loudly as he pasted through the front gate and headed up the path to the entrance of his families estate. He needed to get his sleep in, and soon.
Father wouldn’t happy once he saw his now fully formed bruise when Seth gave him the flowers. He wasn’t.
“What happened!?”
“A commoner boy…it doesn’t matter” his eyelids fell further down then usual as he spoke.
“Why where you getting into fights with commoners!?”
“He was the one who fought me father”
“And why did he want to fight you?”
Seth remained silent, he didn’t want to delve into his conversation with the flower girl, or what he’d learned about his feathers origin.
His father sighed, taking the flowers from his hands. “Go to your room, I knew I shouldn’t have let you leave home.”
“But fa-“ his eyes drooped a little further, usually we would have been able to respond properly, but he was losing his focus.
“Go, don’t let your mother see you on your way”
Seth was to tired to argue, he obediently nodded and did as he was told. Father would have to be told eventually, he was getting in his way of playing this game.

As quickly as he could, Seth change into his pajamas, and promptly collapsed on the four poster bed that dominated his bed room. He’d never left this tired, his urge to sleep was stronger than ever. Since it was still afternoon his shut the curtains that surrounded the bed tight, he couldn’t possibly reach the window without dowsing off like this.
Finally he cured up, resting his bruised against his pillows, and closed his eyes. His thoughts carried on into the dream. “That’s better…”
“Seth”
“Uh?” What was it now, he wanted to sleep, to go to his peaceful dream.
He groaned again, what was this, he was about to go to his happy place. Under the tree in that field, it was his favorite dream. His cloudy mind was suddenly replaced by darkness. He was in an almost pitch black room, there was a slight sound of flowing water in the distance.
He was still groggy, but he was sort of waking up now. He lifted himself up, and looked to the other side of the room. There stood a huge four poster but, not unlike his own, but this one was decorated with black feathers along its posts. And in its mattress’s place was a seemingly perfectly squared pile of black feathers.
He felt compelled to rest on it, it look so comfortable. Maybe then he could got to his happy place. He lay down on the feathers, the there as soft, and comfy as they looked. He started to close his eyes again, he could lie here forever.
“Seth, I wouldn’t do that if I where you, mortals who lie there never wake up.”
“Uh?” Seth’s dazed mind processed someone was there, he rolled over “Hypnos?” Hypnos had finally decided to show himself. He was draped in a cloak loosely fitting his frame, with large wings protruding from either side of his head.
“So I see you already had a run in with someone today eh?”
“Urgh, yes, and where you?” he replied, quite perturbed, as he lifted himself up to the sit himself down on the foot of the bed. Seth finally found out what it was like for everyone else around him, every moment he spent in Hypnos’ presence made him want to sleep.
“I was sleeping, I didn’t expect you to talk to Persephone any time soon. It got bored waiting for you to leave your house. And by the way, next time look out for that kids kick”
“Hmph, so want do you want me to do?”
“Do? Play the game I suppose”
“You don’t have any plan?”
“It’s not up to me what you do Seth. But if you have to do something, you’d best look out for other Gods. I don’t really know which ones are around, Thanatos was in such a rush to get me here, but we where never allowed to directly change your own will”
“Thanatos? Your brother?” Seth was rather knowledgeable about mythology, Thanatos was Hypnos’ brother, a personification of Death.
“He pushed me into it, he’s not allowed in this game, being Death n’all”
Seth wasn’t liking how this was all sounding, it sounded like Hypnos didn’t particularly care about the game. That he was only doing this as a favor for his brother, not himself.
“So you’re doing this for him?”
“Yep, now first things first, the powers I’ve given you. I suppose you already know what it is, but your not using it to it’s full potential”
“How so?” Seth replied, sounding rather glum now that he’d been told Hypnos was essentially lazy.
“Your only using your aura to put people to sleep, like that kid this afternoon. You need to reach part of your will to touch theirs. It works are easier that way. It worked on Zeus.” Hypnos took his own stead on the foot of the bed next to Seth. “I’ll grant you other powers soon, when you’re ready for them for now, enjoy your nap” Before Seth could reply Hypnos instantly lulled him into sleep and he collapsed forward into Hypnos’ arms.
His mind went blissfully blank, like anything he’d ever cared about had been wiped away. It was the best night sleep he’d ever had.

After much switching between a hurried pace and a sluggish one, Seth managed to return home through the throngs of ghosts that he’d done his best to avoid touching. He didn’t know what would happen if he didn’t, but he’d rather not find out. As soon as he arrived he ran up the pathway to the entrance and ran to his room with what little ounces of strength he still had.
He collapsed on his bed at once, not even bothering to change into his pyjamas, nor remove his raincoat. But his hopes for some peace and quiet t last where soon dashed away as he awoke back in Hypnos’ signature dark room, the large four poster bed and distant sound of running water in the distance. He lay face down on the dark marble floor in the same position he was in as he fell on his bed, only now he was draped in a matching dark tunic.
“Hypnos…I want to be alone and rest” He moaned, in as much of a forceful tone of voice he could bother summoning.
“Your bodies resting Seth, your fine here”
Hypnos was right, Seth felt wide awake. He lifted himself of the floor, he defiantly didn’t like the feeling he got from the loose fitting tunic Hypnos had decided to give him.
“Hypnos I don’t think this is funny”
“If your going to be my Godling you should dress the part Seth, but I wouldn’t make you do it in the real world… yet anyway.
“You didn’t bring me here to dress me up, so what is it?”
“Those monsters? You saw them, when you weren’t half asleep right?”
Seth remained silent for a few awkward moments before answering, ”Yes”
“Well, you should go out and get rid of your share of them, I’m not to sure on the exact details, I’m rather out of the loop these days. But there’s some Gorgons out around the edges of the city, If you put them to sleep they’ll be no problem.”
Seth remain silent, so far, he’d failed to even put a person to sleep, let alone a monster. Hypnos actually expected him to be able to do such a thing?
“You should take some kind of weapon with you, that Hermes kid had a metal pipe, something like that would suffice, you don’t want to be walking around the city with something that’s obviously a weapon.
Well, at least he had a good point there. But Seth stayed quite.
“Fine”
Hypnos was clearly aware Seth’s enthusiasm for this was dwindling, for now he’d let the kid rest, now really wasn’t a good time to be talking to him. Before Seth could react or do anything, his consciousness faded and his soul returned to his sleeping body.

The next day, late into the afternoon., Seth finally woke up, and at long last he wasn’t nodding off every other second. So, now what was he to do, Hypnos had instructed him to go out a beta the monsters that now inhabited the city, the Gorgons specially, apparently he had a better chance of beating them over whatever else there was lurking in the streets. Considering he’d be stuck in his house if he did otherwise, it was, despite it’s inherit lack of a plan, the better option.
He changed into a new set of his usually clothes, and too Hypnos’ advice to take an inconspicuous weapon with him. In this case, it would be a statuette that stood on a shelf in the corner of his room, it was silver and just short than his forearm. He never liked the thing, it was just some part of the old fashions decorating the entire house had. If it got destroyed, it’d be two birds down with one stone.
With it hidden beneath his jacket, he headed off towards the edges of the city, taking the route that best avoided Midding, and what ghosts he could.
---------
As he pasted the corridors, he walked further and further into unfamiliar territory. At first glance he though a statue on the street a normal sight, but as he kept going there became an increasing number of them, and less and less citizens going about their business. The Gorgons must have been here, or where already nearby. Hypnos had never specified how many of them there where, only that there was more than one of them. Eventually, all activity in the streets ceased, save only for the ghosts wandering aimlessly about ignoring him.
Seth had already drawn his makeshift “Weapon”, ready to try and take on the monster if it was here. It was, unfortunately not where Seth expected it. He gorgon griped Seth tightly from behind, he dropped the statue in his haste to try and club her. He struggled as he was unable to escape her clawed hands.
“Ah, a Godling for our collection” it hissed.
Seth shut his eyes. “Don’t look, don’t look” He tried with what will he could to force her asleep, but already being half suffocated he was powerless to. The gorgon spun Seth around still in her grip, so his nose was practically touching he own serpentine one.
“Open your eyes little Godling….open you eyes” it teased.
Seth resisted for a long as he could, until she grew irritated for his determination and dug her claws into his back. Seth winced in pain, and for a brief moment opened his eyes. It was too late, he body was turning to stone, the gorgon left him to stand on his own as his legs where already immoveable, a wicked smile on her face.
”..Sorry…”
“What a fine little Godling for the collection, Sister will be pleased…”
That was the last thing Seth could here before his flesh turned t stone, his clothes still tighy bound to his frame. His face will with his trademark blank expression.

“…Seth…”
“Urgh”
Seth was starting to come to. He felt groggy, as if he’d been asleep for what seemed like forever. It took him a great length of time and effort to even for many coherent thoughts.
“…Seth…”
“….wha?...” At least that was sort of a word
“…Seth…”
“…What is it?...” Seth moaned like anyone who didn’t’ want to get out of bed would, oblivious to what had happened to his body.
“…Seth, get up”
Seth’s mind had one of those delayed reactions, and it suddenly dawned on him the last thing he reminded was a sharp pain in his back, looking that gorgons eyes and his body turning to stone. He mentally shuddered, those two things he hoped he’d never have to see or experience ever again.
He bolted upright, he was sitting down, a number of dark sheets that he’d been sleeping under now covered his legs. Save only for those his was completely naked, without his usually hair band, locks of his hair splayed about his shoulder in haphazard fashion. He had been lying in Hypnos’ ever familiar been bed judging by the dark room he was now in.
“Finally your awake” Hypnos said, piping up at last from the foot of the bed.
“Hypnos...w-whats…” Seth for once found himself at a loss for words. His whole body ached, he was suddenly somewhere else, naked.
“It’s okay Seth, your body was turned to stone, it took quite a while for me to get your spirit here.” He sat down next to Seth, looking rather calm in comparison to Seth’s current panic struck state.
“My bodies…stone?” He was starting to get sleepy again, in his weak state, it was hard to resist the nature enchantment the bed had about it, and Hypnos’ presence didn’t help either. His head started to drop as well as his eyelids.
“Rest if you need to, I understand”
“I’m dead?” Seth ignored him
“No, you just don’t have a body”
“But...but” his eyes started watering, followed by tears sliding down his face.
Hypnos knew Seth wasn’t going to feel any better if this continued, no doubt he felt useless and weak now. He couldn’t have Seth be like that if he was going to stay in the Game. He’d have to put his plan into motion, Seth would be happier this was. The ends justified the means.
“Here” Hypnos produced a goblet filled with crystal clear water. “Drink this, you’ll feel better” Seth took it without a word and drank the water, which Hypnos had taken from the river Lethe. As soon as the water had touched Seth’s lips he was entranced, he continued until the goblets contents where spent. As he drank Seth’s mind become foggier and foggier, his thoughts muddled, it was like earlier, they where hard to string. Until they cease altogether. His mind went blank as all his memories where washed away. Seth lapsed back into sleep, and collapsed back onto the bed.
Hypnos called upon his sons, Morpheus, Phobetor, Phantasos, all of whom appeared much like him and Seth, though in their teens. Their job for the night was the shape Sets dreams, so when’d awaken, he’d have some, albeit hazy, false memories.
-------------
A night pasted and Seth woke up much in the same matter he had the pervious. Though now he had to memories to draw back on or recall. He felt no shame that he was naked now however, innocent was one of the perks of having to memories.
“Who are you?” Seth said, acknowledging the man sat next to him on the bed.
“You father Seth, you don’t remember?” Hypnos wrapped his arms around Seth in a hug.
“…father?...” He repeated, before returning the hug.
Hypnos was free to mold him now.

A few days later….at least that’s what it would be on earth, Hypnos’ realm never seemed to have what someone would call day. Just nights interrupted by lingering periods of twilight, where the sun just stayed out of view behind the horizon. Leaving the sky a hazy purple for hours on end, an aspect of this place that was starting to grow on Seth since his stay here.
Hypnos had finally let Seth see the rest of his realm, beyond that dark room Seth had always been in before. (Not that he ever remembered ever begin here prior to a few days ago) The dark room had just been Hypnos own room, and only a small portion of his partially underground place. As anyone would have expected, it was all comprised of Greek architecture. Many of the rooms where open are airy, as they opened out to the cliffs the places was build into, windowless save for the pillars that held up the edges of the ceilings. They where all made of dark blue cleanly cut marble, far beyond any workmen ship you’d expect fro ma mortal craftsman. Along the many heavily curtained rooms that over looked a seemingly endless sea, and the meagre land the peninsula that the place was located, where was a domed room for viewing the stars, a dining hall, multiple bedrooms, and Seth’s own room Hypnos had given him until his memory was recovered. Aside fro mall the grandeur, much of the palace was old, not broken, or damaged in anyway, just as if everything hadn’t been touched or moved in an immensely long time. (After not being worshipped for thousands of years, one doesn’t exactly always feel motivated to clean up)
Over the past few days Seth had adapted to the fabricated history of his life that Hypnos had informed him of. He was Hypnos son now, and Hypnos was quite the story teller when he wanted to be. According to him Seth was part of The Game, though Hypnos had claimed The Game was for anyone chosen by a God, Hypnos had just chosen his own son. But Seth wasn’t entirely a fully fledged god yet, just a demi-god, and that he’d have to prove himself in The Game if he wanted to be like his “brothers”. He went on to explain that Seth had gotten lost on the way to the mortal realm, and without a body, his spirit had to wonder for a while, that was his reason for Seth’s memory loss. He claimed it would take some time for a new vessel for his spirit to be ready in the mortal realm. He’d already pulled enough strings on the first. Without any memories to draw back gone, Seth couldn’t exactly argue with this history of events. Especially his three new “brothers” acting along with the whole delusion as well.
Aside from the whole new lifestyle, Seth’s personality was left untouched, though he did appear to be, at least a little bit happier now. Though Seth was spending most of his time between his conversations with Hypnos sleeping. Having for spirit encased in stone, then having it ripped out and brought into a whole different world altogether took a lot out of you. That, and he was living in the realm of a god of sleep. Seth had taken a liking to the long flowing tunic he’d been given to wear, and having his hair unbound behind his head, and just having it flow about freely. He felt it suited him, like it had always been like this. That could be attributed to Morpheus, Phobetor, Phantasos periodically influencing Seth’s dreams, and adding subtle messages to him. Seth was soon becoming Hypnos’ model son, obedient always willing to learn and loving towards him. -
Seth woke up his room, soft moonlight flittered in from the gaps in the curtains between the pillars, partly illuminating the cushion infested room. Hypnos was sat down next to him, apparently waiting for him, or perhaps he’d willed him awake.
“Do you think you’ve got the energy to go outside Seth?”
“I think so father” he replied, politely, as he adjusted his tunic, pulling it back up to his shoulders to fit loosely round his frame.
“Alright, follow me to the garden , I’ve got some things to show you.”

“You really think its okay to do this son?”
“Why? I’m not breaking any of the rules”
“Not that”
“Then what?”
“You can’t just go tricking that mortal boy like that; you can’t honestly believe the other gods will let him be one of the Oneiroi?”
“I never told him that”
“More lies”
“He’s happier this way, far happier than when he thought he was mortal”
“And if he wins?”
“We’ll cross than bridge when we come to it.”
There was a long awkward silence as the beautiful dark haired woman (And barely dressed) stared back at Hypnos. Nyx knelt down by Seth’s sleeping body, wiped his brow and ran one hand through his hair. She propped Seth up into a seated position again one of the beds cushion. She continued to prop about his body. Examining it, as it were. He was so frail and weak in comparison to the other children.
“I still don’t understand why you chose this boy out of all the ones in the world”
“He seemed intelligent, it was more Thanatos’ idea, since he wasn’t allowed to join. But Seth’s all books smart, and nothing more, no help at all in this game. Its better this way, if I let him stay the same way he’d only end up getting hurt, or turned to stone or who knows what else?”
“…still, it’s not fair on this boy”
“Don’t talk about him like that, he’s your grandson after all.”
Nyx shot Hypnos and annoyed face, before returned to her inspection.
“You took his life away”
“We won’t miss it…he can’t remember it, you can miss something if you never knew you had it.”
“Hmph, fine do whatever you want. But if he ever recovers his memories you’ll be sorry” With that Nyx vanished off in a wisp to black smoke, leaving her son to his business with his adopted child.
Hypnos wasn’t worried; nothing could ever recover its memories after touching Lethe’s waters, let alone drinking it. It had already been a few days, Seth was already settling in nicely. He embraced his brothers and father like they’d always been blood relatives. Everything was fine; Seth was already fitting to his new mould.
--
Hypnos walked Seth along a marble path that stretched along the garden path. The garden itself was hidden behind the mountainous peninsula and ended abruptly at the cliff edge. Much like the palace, the plants appeared to have been untouched for a great length of time, though they seemed to have avoided growing over the paths and benches. Any of the trees where dark, and tightly knotted into each other, forming a canopy through which very little light filtered through.
Seth final piped up after being lead along the path for well over fifteen minutes. “Father what is it you wanted to show me?”
“You’ll see, we’re nearly there”
They walked along for a further five minutes on the path, the darkness generated by the veiling of branches and leaves started to dissipate slightly. Until the reached a large gazebo like structure, make of classical Greek pillars and a domed roof. However this had a very large tree growing through its middle, and its branches and many other plants entangling the entire thing with greenery. Without a word Hypnos lend Seth into it and sat him down on a circular bench that, while it was originally built around the tree, not looked like it had become part of it.
“Father, you wanted to show me this...tree?”
Hypnos chuckled lightly at Seth’s newfound innocence. “No Seth, I wanted to teach you a few things, if you gin got go to the mortal world you’ll need to learn a few powers to use on the other children playing The Game.”
“….like?”
“The power to induce sleep is one let me show you” Hypnos, with hardly any indication of giving a command, called down a small black bird which perched itself on his now outstretched index finger. The bird stood there quite still and clam. This was of course, Hypnos’ real, he could control anything he wished to within it, and these birds where with comparable to lifting a finger. Though they weren’t exactly true birds, more like some spirits that had wondered and found their way here, Hypnos giving them a more suitable from for his realm.
The birds head drooped suddenly, and its eyes closed. Seth just stared in wonder at it, just like he’d seen it for the first time.
“Here you try” Another bird drifted down and sat down on Seth’s bare shoulder. He could only stare back at it puzzled. How could he just make the bird fall asleep? Think at it? Hypnos just watched Seth’s at he engaged in a staring contest with the bird, he kept his smile, he was positive this would happen.
“You have to reach out to it with part of your spirit, when yours and its touch, your natural sleepy aura will over come it” But an explanation wouldn’t’ be quite enough, further demonstration was in order.
Seth started to feel very sleepy. Hypnos doing just as he’d explained to him, allowing their spirits to touch. He tried to resist the now overpowering urge to sleep, even as he eyes nearly closed shut. A nap seemed like a really good idea now, a nice long nap. ”…Father won’t mind if a take a nap now…” Hypnos stopped just before it overcame Seth and h returned to full coconsciousness.
“See Seth?”
“I...I think so” he forced on the bird again, this time letting his aura surround the bird. Just like the other one that was still sleeping on Hypnos finger, its eyes closed and its head drooped.
“Good Seth, but it’ll take more focus than that to put a human to sleep, now, there another power you need to try. Wiping memories away, it won’t last log in the mortal realm, but if you’re nearby, it’ll last much longer.”
“How do I do that?” Seth was clearly happy over his accomplishment. (Not that it showed very much on his face)
“The same way, only you need to reach out to the mind, and use your spirit to wipe their memories away. It’s harder, I’ll admit, but it’s worth it, it’ll get you out of a few sticky situations I’m sure” Hypnos now regretted never teaching Seth this to begin with, he could have still had his body and memories if he’d been able to give that gorgon amnesia. But was done was done.
Seth focused on the sleeping bird, and keep he’d done it when the bird awoke with a startle and squawk, and it promptly fly away. The corners of Seth’s mouth actually formed a smile as his sense of accomplishment rose.
“I think you’re ready now Seth, you’d best go get some rest, you’ll be off to the mortal realm tomorrow.”

At first glance, the room where Seth awakens is no different from the one in Hypnos's palace. However, if he gets out of bed and goes exploring, he will find it is connected to a small suite of rooms in an apartment in Middling opening into a sleepy little hippy-dippy neighborhood.
However, there's no time for that now.
Seth's new body, exhausted from the process of its formation and the tedious time spent stuffing a soul up its nose, falls into a deep sleep. Hypnos leaves a bag of sand for the boy, his new son, a fitting weapon for the bringer of sleep. A while later, Cthulu stops by and places a heavy bracelet of tarnished gold on his wrist.
Seth's new body is older than the one that is still petrified down in Borders. It is entirely likely he would not recognize himself.
