"Hey you're not my only ally either!" Crystal Isis screamed. She walked over to her holding cell.
"Besides, what kind of hero would I be if I let every single hero friend of mine be locked in jail?!" she looked over at Eagle Eye and winked.

"Don't worry Wall Shadow, I'll find some way to get you out of here. Also, I'm sorry for deserting you." she said to her, telepathically.

Something was up. Austin had figured out that a long time ago. He had pieces, but not all of them, because as much as his mind raced, he couldn't put them together. He was never offered a phone call, or read rights, or anything really. That meant the cops were either stupid, or dirty. He would assume it was dirty.

Another thing had been bothering him, though. The security tapes at the DWHAM would have revealed that Stone originally had the artifact. Austin was positive that the cops must have reviewed those by now. Not all of them could be dirty, right? So that meant that the tapes must have been tampered with. That meant somebody else was out there to bring him down. He had a good idea that the Politician was tied in here somewhere...or at least Stone. It was also fairly obvious that clean cops would have recognized Austin for who he was and never come after him in the first place. That meant that the one playing dirty probably was in a position of power.

With little interest in Wall Shadow's conversation, Austin sunk as far as he could into his holding cell, trying to tie all of it together. He was positive that he wouldn't like what he found, but he had to be getting somewhere.

The officer at the desk yelled at the girl, "Alright, that's enough. Get out of here before I arrest you."

One of the officers grabbed Crystal Isis's arm in atempt to escort her out of the station. She pulled her arm away from her.
"I can find the exit myself!" she screamed at the officer. Lyra was not in the best of mood s right now.
"You know what Wall Shadow, one day you'll want my help and I won't help you!" She said before finaly looking walking towards the exit. She glanced back and made sure the camera wasn't watching her and mouthed the words:
"I'll figure out some way to get you out of here!" Lyra walked out the door and climbed the tree outside the station and returned to normal and listened to what was going on inside.

Lyra heard Maria's phone ring a pulled it out of her bag. She saw that it was her parents so Lyra decided to ignore the call till she found a place for her to talk without any cops knowing she was there. She transormed into Crystal Isis and waited for the phone to ring again. She was right outside the window of Maria's holding cell. The windows had glass over the bars. She made sure she wasn't going to be seen before the phone finally rang. Maria might be able to hear her, but the cops wouldn't. Lyra answered the phone.
"Hello Mrs. Costa!" Lyra said.
"Lyra?! Why are you answering the phone? Where's Maria?" She asked.
"She doing Wall Shadow stuff right now. I don't know when she'll be back. It might be a week or more."
"A week? Well whats going on?"
"We're just investigating some stuff."
"As long as she's ok, I'm good."
"Ok, well I got to go, Mrs. Costa."
"Ok, bye Lyra."
"Bye." Lyra hung up and sighed deeply. "Damn, now I'm lying to her mother. If Maria would have told the truth, oh well. I'm Lyra and I'm trying to help her a** by not letting her mom know she's in jail. Now all I have to do is find a way to get her out of here." she said before climbing the tree next to the window. She returned to normal and texted Toshimi.
"Toshimi,
I'll be home late.
Crystal Isis stuff.
I'll tell you later.
See you at home.
Lyra"

((sorry for using your mom, Gatta! Hope you don't mind!))

Maria heard just the faintest bit of the conversation, but most of it was unintelligible. Sure enough, it was her phone ringing, not Lyra's. Maybe she found my bag or something...

Straining to hear from the bench in the holding cell, regardless of how close it was to the building's wall, she heard snatches of Lyra's end of the conversation. Something about her, a week, and then something about a lie...

She couldn't really piece together the conversation parts at all, but she figured that Lyra'd gotten her out of some trouble for the moment. She'd also have to explain everything when she got out of that mess, her family was bound to hear about her arrest sooner or later, but at least she didn't have to worry about her parents absolutely freaking out just yet.

While sitting there on the bench in the cell, her mind drifted, as it had a few times earlier that day, to that morning. She didn't know whether Mom had already woken up and just heard a footstep, a voice, something, and came to check, but she was afraid that on the carpeted stairs, her footsteps were muffled. That left the TV and Gatta's joking retort to get off the stage as causes.

Her thought process dazed by the fact that she was in jail, perhaps, or just because it had been a long day already, Maria boiled her thoughts down to one solution: Gatta was the one who had unintentionally led her parents to discover her secret. Luckily, this had worked out for now, there was no possible excuse for how long she would be gone otherwise, but she had not planned on the open but forced confession that had occurred. She had been planning to tell her parents later on, perhaps that exact day, but then she wouldn't have gotten into this mess, she would've gone home after helping Lyra and Toshimi find the kittens. She wouldn't have gotten involved with Eagle Eye and Stone's interrogation earlier... she wouldn't have gone to this building, much less this holding cell, at all. So, by the power of association, Gatta was the reason she was imprisoned; Eagle Eye would be here alone. Although she felt for the guy, she wasn't too crazy about being in a dingy holding cell.

Maria felt a wave of irritation at her sister, planning to tell her off, maybe more, at the first possible moment. However, before she ended up both in jail and stressed further, she decided to plan later and just wait now. There was nothing she could do, she was trapped like a mouse in this cell.

A flashback, perhaps brought on by the stress, perhaps by the fact that she was half-asleep and dying to not think about her surroundings, came to Maria, sitting there in the dull holding cell.

"MISS COSTA!" a voice rang out clearly, awakening her from a brilliant dream. She was in a crappy desk at the Free Academy. Her Sophomore English teacher, Mr. Stern, was living up to his name again, standing over her with a ruler, which he had rapped on the desk previously.

"What, Mr. Stern?" Maria asked, slightly grumpily. Give me a break, I just got back! she thought.

"Miss Costa, you're not one to usually sleep in my class... but I don't care if you HAVE just gotten back to school from the hospital, I need your attention! This is school, you shouldn't have come if you were so tired. And Maria, a girl in fishnet stockings and gloves is NOT notes on Shakespeare!"

"Sorry, sir..." Maria explained. She had just discovered something insanely bizarre, unintentionally, the previous night: as she was trying to make her tattoo vanish again. It had become easy for about an hour or so, she was working on endurance. Yet, she'd looked in the mirror and seen very little...she could see herself, but she could also see the room directly behind her.

She had thought immediately of the bizarreness of Delmor and the old League, and she had merely been designing a tentative outfit.

Maria had actually used that design for her original Wall Shadow outfit. She sighed out loud, but just sat back in her cell again, wondering why there had been no news on whether or not she and Eagle Eye would be staying in jail.

It was a mistake to think all of this would go fast. Maybe it was, but either way, every second dragged out to Austin. Time made him dreary. His own fear was slowly evaporating. He was thinking hard...to the point that he could think no more. And soon he sat up against the wall of his holding cell, his mouth hanging open stupidly, spaced out and staring into nothing.

Finally, the world spun away and Austin had fallen asleep.

Maria got up. Had that been a dream? She didn't quite know if that had been a mere flashback or if she'd dozed off, but it reminded her of the afternoon after that. She started to pace, her shoes making tiny clicking noices as she walked up and down the holding cell. She didn't know that Eagle Eye was asleep, but wouldn't have cared if she knew.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Maria put the key into the deadbolt on the front door, turned it until the lock clicked, and walked into the house. Sliding her heavy bookbag off of her shoulder and sitting it on the chair that already had Gatta's bookbag and purse on it, she sat down on her sofa. Mercury, hearing the activity downstairs, dashed down the stairs and leapt up onto the couch with a trill. Maria stroked the black cat's fur absently, thinking about how annoying Mr. Stern had been.

Within five minutes, a knock broke the near-silence.

"MARIA! GET THE DOOR!" a voice called from upstairs. Gatta was obviously busy reading something, too lazy to get off her butt and answer the phone.

"Fine!" Maria called up, getting up and strolling to the front door. She still ached slightly, but not much.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Opening the door, she saw a graying but still blonde woman wearing scrubs.

"Can I help you?" Maria asked, wondering who this woman was and why she was at the door.

"Yes. Maria Costa?" she asked.

"Uh... yes?"

"I'm Doctor Sims... you were out, but after the accident, I managed to revive you..."

"Ugh, my arm's still sore from those drugs you kept me on..." Maria half-whined, rubbing her arm tenderly.

"Sorry. That's an odd tattoo you have there. Is it some illusion as to why it comes and goes? Because when I put the needles in, it wasn't there, but I specifically saw it a few times... any problems from that?"

Is this some sort of in-home checkup? Geez... "Uh, no, and we don't know why it does that, but it's done that for ages... No clue why, but I was born with it. Odd, huh?"

"Uh, yes."

"Oh, go on and come in..." Maria added, almost forgetting that this doctor person was standing outside awkwardly.

The doctor walked in. "Seriously, Miss Costa, nothing weird? Nothing like that has happened in my own medical career."

Damn. Maria was a bad liar. Unlike her younger sister, Maria was unconvincing in spur-of-the-moment lies. "No, really. For someone who was hit by a car a few days ago and nearly died, I'm fine. Nothing bizarre's happened."

Dr. Sims eyed her suspiciously, but she chose to ignore it. If the Costa girl wouldn't talk, she wouldn't force the issue. She was going to keep an eye on Maria, though, that was too fishy an occurance, medically speaking, for no side effects.

Maria noticed the doctor's suspicious look as the doctor got up.

"Well, then, I'll be in touch. I just figured I'd check in on such an odd case."

"This is Delmor," Maria muttered, "Get used to it."

With a quick thud of the door shutting, the doctor was gone.

Gatta walked down the stairs within a minute and asked what that was all about, and Maria explained it to her.

Maria sighed, sat back down, and before she knew it, fell asleep as well.

Crystal Isis yawned and leaned against the tree, letting one leg hang free on the branch. Her cell began to ring and she decided to answer it.
"Hello?" she said, tiredly.
"Hey Lyra, where are you?"
"I'm at the Criminal Justice and Hospital place. Why? What happened at home?"
"Well, there's this creepy chick here saying she's gonna live here a few days. She said her name is Kassie Maitland."
Kassie's there? She arrived sooner than I thought."
"Lyra! Did you plan something behind my back?!"
"No, Kassie's my friend from Culpeper. Remeber when I went there for school my Freshmen year?"
"Oh yeah. I remember you telling me about her in your emails."
"Yeah she just moved here with her sisters. She just needs a place to stay until she gets moved in."
"You could have told me first."
"I told you two weeks ago."
"You did?"
"Yeah. When you signed up to go to Culpeper as an exchange student this year. When do you leave for that anyway."
"I'm not to sure. I think in like 2 weeks or something. Its after school starts there."
"Either way, its not that long. Anyway, tell Kassie I'll be back in like an hour or two. Crystal Isis stuff and yes she knows I'm Isis."
"She does?"
"Yeah I told her in Culpeper. Well actually she caught me in Isis form."
"What were you doing?"
"Singing a song in italian and a line in it happened to be "Desidero essere uno con acqua, potere entrare in un fiume. Appena il pensiero lo incita a desiderare congelare, come ghiaccio. Per essere una parte di un oceano, nuotare con i delfini ed essere con le spiagge." while singing I transormed and she happened to be with me. It was when we were rehearsing for a variety show. I hate the one line in italian that makes me transform. I took yoga as a club and she told me to say "To be one with water" in italian during a session."
"What did you do? Also whats the name of that song?"
"I said it in French. Also the name of the song is "Ragazza del mare" or in English, "Girl of The Sea" its from the Opera "Sogno di Atlantian". We went to see it for her birthday. We also saw Wicked on Broadway."
"Jeese, lucky! I so wanted to see Wicked! Also let me guess the name of the opera was Atlantian Song?"
"No it was Atlantian Dream. Also I know you want to see Wicked! Thats why I told you to sign up to be an exchange student this year! Their going to be performing Wicked in DC!"
"They are! Really?! Now I can't wait! How much are tickets!"
"I ordered them online. I having them sent to Rachel since you'll have them when you get there!"
"Oh my god! Thank you Lyra!!"
"No problem, consider it an early birthday gift."
"Ok, thanks Lyra! I'll talk to you later! Bye!"
"Bye Toshimi." Lyra hung up and slipped the phone in her pocket. She yawned once more before drifting off to sleep in the tree.

(Kassie is just a plot change for Lyra. She's no more than an NPC. Also I fugured Kassie would be a great person to take the place of Toshimi since she's gonna be an exchnge student this year.(I'm not going to be an exchange student in case you got that idea.) So yeah, who wants to be stuck in an apartment with four cats all alone for an entire school year!)

Previously
"must be funny, in a rich man's world..." Police Commissioner Jane Gorgon butchered the chorus to ABBA's 1976 hit as she entered the building. "...All the things I could, if I had a little money. Its a rich man's world." And Jane had just the right idea as to how to get some more.
First was that Ablebody punk. No one sets up shop in my town without buying security. He'd probably be re-thinking his financial situation. As well as his dinner, because that steak's not going to be any good anymore. And now the Gods had smiled down upon her with the gift of these two wrongly-accused individuals. It would be easy to figure a clause into their unofficial paroles that would net her some gain. Getting a job is usually an accepted part of Parole anyways, right?
She had Tubbins send the first of these assets into her office and set to work. She called up the boy's profile on the computer. Austin Aires, eh? Looks like he' got a loaded family... perhaps not after I'm done with him.

Meanwhile....
Officer Tubbins rattled the bars of Austin's cage with his billy club. "Alright punk," he yelled, doing his best police-officer imitation, "The boss wants to see you."
