The Story of the Brannons

It was a snowy day in March when the expedition chanced upon the cave. Originally, they'd been hoping to explore the ruins of an old English castle - Castle Brannon - but they got a lot more than they bargained for.

The cavern was covered by carefully prepared slabs of clay, which were meant to blend in almost seamlessly with the surrounding grassy environment. In fact, had the clay not been starting to chip away, it's quite possible that the four explorers that located the place would have passed it right by.

Within the cave were hundreds of beautiful eggs... And written on the wall in English were instructions...

Quote:
I am the last of the living. Our castle is under attack, and it is my duty to ensure that this next generation somehow lives on. It is our hope that in the future, someone finds this cavern and is able to take care of the young within these eggs.

We are the Gargoyles. We guarded this castle for centuries, and have never failed to protect it until now. I wish the best for our children... And now I go to fight, and perhaps take a few with me before I, too, die.

Below the letter were instructions for hatching the eggs. Unable to leave the things unprotected, the explorers thought it best if they find a few willing people who could take care of them. Kos, the team's resident Realian, who was able to withstand the cold better than most, volunteered to make the cave her home in order to watch over the eggs until suitable homes could be found. It wasn't long after that that Sage arrived... Though ill-tempered, she's a permanent resident of the cave as well, and actually helps out sometimes!
RULES!

1. First and foremost, PLEASE don't steal my art. I actually work hard on it, and I'd really hate to see people taking it without paying for it. Art theft is illegal. If you decide to steal my drawings, I will find out. Just don't do it. Penalties for art theft include: Blacklisting, reporting to a mod. You will not be allowed to own a Brannon, and any Brannon you DO own will be taken away.

2. Flatsales will be held in this way from now on: When I open a flatsale, I will ask a question/provide a scene/etc. You will have 24 hours to answer the question thouroughly. There will be places assigned... The first place winner will have first pick of the eggs, and so on down the line. This is to prevent people with fast modems from snapping up eggs. It's also a measure I can use for quality control. Thanks to Jynk for the idea.

3. No harassing me or the people who post here and/or own Brannons. This means: If you don't like the Brannon you get, don't complain. Don't harass other owners, either, and to those that have enough to bid in auctions... Well. Leave them alone, too.

4. Be respectful to the others on the forum, and do your best to type legibly in the English language (No L33T. Type with proper capitalization/punctuation/spelling.) No flame wars or meaningless posts. Bumping is allowed; I just don't want to see anything that might belong in another forum.

5. No reserving. For auctions and flatsales, PLEASE wait 'til I give the Okay to start posting. Don't PM me about auctions/flatsales/raffles.

6. Don't edit a flatsale/auction post once you've posted. Also, one Brannon per flatsale or auction. Thanks.

7. People can be Blacklisted or greylisted at my discression. Blacklisting will last anywhere from a month to being permanent. Don't ask to be removed from the Blacklist. It won't happen.

8. You may have a total of three Brannons. If you already have one or two, and there's someone posting on the thread that's been wanting one, PLEASE be considerate and use your best judgement. Purposely sniping and stealing an egg out from under a hopeful owner's nose will earn you the egg, but you'll also be grey-listed.

9. To prevent sniping in auctions, bidding will close ten minutes after the last bid is placed. If the set time for the auction ends and there are people still bidding, it will be allowed to continue until there's a ten minute time cushion.

10. Now and then I will offer custom and special Brannons. These will be a bit more expensive, though I will draw pretty much whatever you want. There is a limit of ONE special/custom per person, no exceptions.

11. I will not PM you about your Brannon. If you don't A) contact me in some way about names for your baby and B) I never hear from you, I WILL ASSUME YOU'RE NEGLECTING YOUR BRANNON AND GIVE IT TO SOMEONE ELSE.

12. Co-owning is not and will never be allowed. It bothers me greatly that two people will actually get together and pool all their money in an attempt to take a pet out from under the noses of people that don't like co-owning. You cannot consistantly play a character this way. Do not ask about it, please. There are NO CIRCUMSTANCES where I will allow co-owning, even if I've known you on Gaia for 10 years.
RP Rules

Note - these RP rules only apply to Brannons v. 2.0. That is, Brannons given in flatsale or auction AFTER 1 MARCH 2006. Brannons acquired before that date do not need to RP, though they may feel free to do so.

1. Things to keep in mind about Brannons - one talent that each of the posesses is the amazing ability to heal when they TURN TO STONE during the day. Turning to stone cannot be circumvented; it happens to them all. In any case, while they're in this stone slumber, all injuries they may have sustained during the night will heal. However, broken limbs must be set properly, or they will heal incorrectly, leaving the gargoyle crippled. For this reason, young Brannons may seek to become healers. Injuries of a magical origin may not heal all the way.

2. I'm not strict about RP, though I like to see it happen. Many people ask why certain pets require RP, and others don't. The reason, for me, at least, is that a lot of time goes into each of these - an adult takes four to six hours to colour - and it's nice to see that people are appreciating your work. Eventually, there will be a guild where people can make their own journals and RP, though for now, RPing in the thread is fine. If you see people RPing, please keep OOC posts in parentheses, ((like this.))

3. On that note, owners who have Brannons that don't post in the thread at all won't grow, and will eventually be given to someone else. I'm not making RP requirements here... I just want to see people remaining active in the thread. Those who RP more will grow faster, because it will make sense to their story. Those who have no story have no need to grow!

4. Stages: The egg stage is first, of course. This stage may last a while - two to three weeks. Before hatching, the owner of the egg must RP with an active Brannon adolescent, to aid in the hatching. Quite simply, it is stormy around castle Brannon, and as stated in the Gargoyles comic book, all eggs must be struck by lightning to hatch. This can be RP'd out however you want.

Stage two is the 'hatchling' stage, and this one may last a while. During this time, your gargoyle will learn and grow, and he will develop into his personality. Personalities given on the certs are a mere guide, which should be loosely followed at first. People change, though, and so do gargoyles. Their personality may do a complete 180, but it should be developed through RP, and shouldn't be sudden.

When the gargoyle has reached a certain point in development, he will become an adolescent. He may fall in love, and he may be assigned more serious roles in his society. He cannot, however, have children. That is only for adults.

The Brannon Life Cycle

Egg:

All Brannons start as eggs. According to the mysterious Gargoyle that left the letter on the cave wall, all the eggs were born in one generation by various parents. They are left to mature for 100 years before they are hatched.

The hatching takes place on the night of a lightning storm. Ideally, the Rookery Brannon stands on the castle's high tower and holds the egg up over his head, allowing lightning to strike it. This gives the infant the spark of life it needs to awaken, and the egg starts to glow. If the baby is male, the egg will glow blue-white. If female, it will glow red. This is when you should PM me with a name. About five to seven days later, the egg hatches. (The egg stage will last about a week and a half.)

Hatchling:

Adolescent:

This is the "Final" stage of Brannon growth. As Gargoyles can live for thousands of years, they will never grow out of their adolescent stage. (That is... Unless you're around in four or five hundred years when they finally mature.)

There won't be any breeding with the Brannons. Adolescents CAN produce eggs, but they won't be viable. In addition to that, even if a Brannon were to produce a viable egg, it wouldn't hatch for at least a hundred years.

Types of Brannons

Enforcer: This type usually has more brawn than brains. They tend to be quite strong, and only learn to control that strength as they age. Occasionally one is born that is not only strong, but is intelligent as well. They are good friends and excellent watchmen.

Intelligence: These tend to be loners. They like problem solving and the like... When they do make friends, they tend to keep a few people very close, and the others at arm's length. Most are egotistical and develop a rebellious streak as they age.

Magi: Magical-oriented Brannons usually don't have wings, but that doesn't matter. In their youth, they are usually able to conjure arcane wings so they can fly. Personality can vary incredibly, and is totally up to the individual.

Technological: Incredibly gifted with machines, be they the war machines of old or more modern equipment like computers. They also like pretty things and are attracted by gold or silver. Personality can vary.

Psychic: These only come as twins. They are so attuned to each other that they can communicate through telepathy. They are somewhat of a mystery and like to stay aloof. They are very rare.

I will ONLY take full-custom trades for full-custom trades. That is, you will get a full custom Brannon for a full custom pet. At the point, I am NOT interested in ANY pet, as I simply do not have the time to RP it. That means trades are currently closed.
