Welcome to Gaia! ::

User Image

Wandering through the streets of Barton Town, you stumble on a several-story building, painted a humble white and comfortably settled between a shop selling angelic kittens and what looks like the home of some M&M-colored blobs. A swinging sign planted firmly in the front lawn proclaims "Children of the Crystal: Konokai Headquarters" in large, flowing letters, with a wing and a crystal shard etched on either side of the words. One side of the wood is a little scorched, and vines seem to be growing around the post, but for the most part it seems normal enough. Knocking on the large, oaken door, you take a look inside. "Hullo?"

In the rather large, comfortable front room, a small girl of about eight years old is playing with a strange-looking creature that seems a cross between a cow and a dog. The girl herself sports a pair of green and blue dragon wings, her reddish-brown hair styled in short spikes on top and ponytailed in the back. Blue runic tattoos decorate her shoulders, and as she turns to you, you can see a blue diamond etched beneath her left eye. "Hi - are you looking to adopt a Konokai?" When you nod, she turns toward a nearby door with a loud yell. "MOM!!! Somebody's here!!"

"Thanks, Dray." A short teenaged girl steps into the room, shaking her head wryly. "But I think they heard you in Duram." Flicking aside a lock of dark blue curl, she smiles at you. "Hullo, I'm Rune - or Lichen, whichever you prefer. This is the Konokai Headquarters - we give out young Konokai to caring, responsible guardians to raise. Would you like to take a look around?"

The Konokai Coming

Soon after the Heirlings came to me, I took four of them - my daughter Alter and my foster kids Oren, Fallie and Freedom - off to a fair. After we wandered around for a bit, we happened on a strange, dimly-lit shop with several small, silvery metal objects set out on the counters. I lingered on a small disk with what looked like a cat's paw print in it, but when I saw the dagger pendant hanging from a silken cord, I felt I had to buy it. The actual owner of the objects had given them to the shopkeeper as trash, but I had a feeling there was something special about it.

To make a rather long and complicated story short, the dagger went missing several days later; that same day, a trio of young kids was chased to my doorstep by a huge, demonic monster who nearly killed Alter. These kids used a brand of magic none of the Mages or Royal Houses had ever seen before . . . calling themselves the Konokai, they apparently came from ordinary objects enbedded with a shard of an ancient mage crystal. One of the girls, Dray, had come from my dagger pendant, while Nikki had been 'born' from the silver disk I'd first admired. Where the crystal shards came from, how they got into the objects, even what they were, nobody was sure. Some actually say they might have come from the Fey themselves, a last gift from the dying race to combat their enemies. This seems to fit, since the word 'Konokai' means 'life crystal' or 'mage crystal' in Heiraldic. Plus, the children all speak Heiraldic. It's rumored that some of them also know more than they're telling, but that remains to be seen.

Note: The actual story of what happened to bring the first Konokai out will be told in the guild once I've raised enough gold for it; it's rather long to post here (what can I say? I'm a novelist.) Also, these children are designed so you can help them uncover their origins. They - and possibly even your RP self - will gain magic, powers and knowledge as this progresses. That's the reason they're RP intensive.

There are four Common stages for the Konokai children, all with individual lineart. These are listed below, along with some idea of what they are / do.

Stage #1:

The first stage is the Item. Similar to the Egg stage in some other pets, this is an item with a shard of the Konokai crystal embedded in it. These items can range from the mundane, like a shred of cloth or a pendant, to odd or outright strange things, like a pirate's eyepatch or a pair of stereo headphones. At this stage, the 'crystal' is able to communicate slight emotions as well as likes or dislikes by either glowing in various colors or making noises. Exposing them to different things can cause different reactions, and can help in determining your child's personality.

Stage #2:

The second stage is the Baby Stage. Here, your item has transformed into a small child, with a basic set of abilities, likes and dislikes based on the things they were exposed to as items. Here you learn your child's type and universe. Their previous experience also determines how old they appear; "Baby" Konokai can seem anywhere from newborn to a year and a half in human age.

Stage #3:

The third stage is the Toddler stage. Your baby has grown, and his / her personality is becoming quite a bit more pronounced. They may gain new markings or a shift in looks, and their actual abilities may become stronger. When in the "Toddler" stage, Konokai children appear between the ages of two and four in human years.

Stage #4:

The final common stage is the Kid stage. At this point, the Konokai appear to be roughly five to ten years old, and their personalities are quite set. Their basic abilities will be permanent, as well as their 'look,' and they will be able to use weapons and take magick lessons in the RP. Finally, they can bond to each other, and have the ability to "Summon" others of their kind.

Other Stages:

Once a Konokai has reached the Kid stage - and even slightly before, if the RP requires it - they will change from time to time depending on how they are role-played, what special items they have (if any), what classes or training they undergo, and what quests they might have taken. These special stages can change just about anything concerning your Konokai, and believe me, there will be rewards for frequent RPers.

Growing: See the Roleplay section.

You knew these were coming, didn't you? 3nodding

1. No harassing or repeated flaming of the shop or any guardians of the kids. Your kids can argue, the adults can argue in RP, but anything viscious or insulting won't be tolerated.

2. DO NOT constantly ask for a Konokai. Whatever is available will be listed in the Raffle / Auction / Flatsale post below.

3. If you have a question, by all means, post it here. You'll probably get it answered quick, unless I'm in class.

4. If I haven't answered you, please don't bomb the thread or send multiple PMs. My classes are getting rather demanding, and I'll be doing my best to keep up with the shop.

5. Co-owning is NOT allowed at the moment. The children are supposed to bond to one person for the most part; it also relates to the RP.

6. Roleplaying is NOT optional! The Konokai are designed to grow and gain abilities, and they must be RPed to do that. This can be done in the journals, in the HQ thread, or in the guild once it's established. Anyone not RPing their Konokai roughly once every two/three weeks without explanation will have the Konokai taken back and given to a different Guardian.

7. Guardians may currently own only five Konokai at any time, and only if they've shown they can actively RP all five. This is because RPing is hard enough with just one child.

8. No STEALING MY ART!!! I draw all the Konokai art myself, including weapons / toys / other items, and color at least a quarter of it. This means I really don't want people claiming it as their own. Anyone found to have taken my art will be blacklisted and set upon by rabid, psychopathic Miendrakes.

9. Save your Konokai on your own server! I can't stress this enough . . . with everything the shop and HQ has to offer, direct linking would totally destroy my bandwidth. And I don't think anyone would appreciate Red X's in place of their pets.

10. The certs were made by Keily, one of the coolest people I know. So luff her. xd heart

11. Konokai cannot be suicidal, sociopathic or evil. Sorry if this sounds harsh, but there is a reason; the crystal that shattered and made them was created by the ultimate good / life magic. They do have human emotions - they can be petty, cruel, angry, spiteful, anti-social, crazy etc., and they can even kill if circumstances warrent it. However, they have an innate respect for most life, and cannot be truly evil, even if they might seem that way sometimes.

12. More when they come.

These lists represent my personal experiences with these people, and I will be adding more as I speak with others. They will also be linked.

The wonderful Good list:

heart All Guardians of the Konokai and the Heirlings, as well as our lurkers. smile

heart Keilantra. Yeah, she's Sophie's guardian, but she also made the new, awsome certs. And donated 1.5k to the shop. AND gave me a march letter! *hugglez* Mine!

heart Keiko Mitsu, because for two years she's kicked butt and been one of my best online friends. Visit her shop!!! whee

heart CloudWind . . . she forgives me when I'm stupid with my tabletop.

heart Arafel, 'cause the Banir Kinder kick butt, and I love Ravenbrooke and Shiran to death. And I'm in total awe of her drawing / shop-managing / storytelling abilities. So luff her.

heart Rain McCoville. Mother of Kitten, the only half Konokai, and constant motivator. Drives me crazy IRL, but I wouldn't have it any other way. And she forgives my bad GMing, too.

heart Kayaze, who stuck with the online Illuzen RP even when Avidgamers was insane. And plays wonderful characters.

heart Furasshu . . . the absolutely marvelous person who donated a whopping 1k to my guild fund. *bows, worship*

heart Lord Changeling and +Within+, because the Tomyus are beautiful and so are all their other pets.

heart Heyy13 - motivator, understanding, and just all around nice person. We will miss her muchly.

heart Korini, 'cause she puts up with me. And 'cause she has one of the coolest shops in existance. *dances* Mirelle and Kiri!!

heart Draco_blue_flame - 'cause he got mad that he wasn't. *snicker* No, no, seriously, he's a good guy, and he's donated quite a bit.

The Gray List: (can be taken off with good behaviour)

No one yet, yay! Possibly soon, though. *pouts*

The not-so-wonderful Bad list:

Nobody yet! Hurrah! But mess with any of my fav shops or me - *chomps*

Note: This is from a set of prequel novels I'm currently writing. The 'universes' themselves are each novel series or trilogies; the prequel story - which deals with the Fey - explains how they're connected. The Konokai Children play a part in that later on, but at present, are known only in the Slider universe and within Sierre Rafel.

Long ago, the legends say that there were several universes, all connected to one universe known as the Hub. It was there that the Fey lived; a race similar to humans, with shapeshifting and incredible magic abilities, they moved freely between time and space, mingling with others and sharing their knowledge. However, there was a great war between their Clans and the Triad of demonic races that sought to rule the Universes. This war raged for an unknown amount of time, claiming hundreds of Fey leaders and warriors. Finally, the surviving children of the most powerful Clan, the Fellain, used their greatest magic to destroy their enemies in what was called the Last Strike. However, the Triad had their own protections set up; in obliterating those protections, parts of the Strike washed back over the Fey and their allies, shattering the connections between the universes and causing them to change into what we know today. No one is sure what happened to the original casters, although the Fey died out completely around 10 thousand years later. However, each Konokai child claims a Universe as well as a type, so it is possible that some of the other universes still exist. Children with the same universe often share some of the following traits:

User Image
Slider: Diversity, diversity, diversity. Konokai from this universe seem to have no problems accepting other creatures, no matter what they are. They're also exceedingly loyal, but often trust others too easily.

User Image
Summoner: Those from the Summoner universe often exhibit a deeply practical view of the world, almost fatalistic or even pessemistic on occasion. They can also be rather ruthless, though they have trouble trusting others, to the point of switching alliances and friendships almost on a whim.

User Image
Mage: Mage-universe types are fierce in everything, from fighting to friendship; they are almost obsessively loyal, and would do just about anything for their friends. They are also extremely intelligent, and can often read hidden meanings that others might miss.

User Image
Lightburst: The best with weapons, those of the Lightburst are usually loners, comfortable with quiet and their own thoughts as much as in the company of others. Like the Summoners, they can adapt quite quickly.

User Image
Avalon: Leaders and quite independant, Avalon Konokai often seem noble . . . and occasionally, a bit pompous. They aren't very good with change, either, though they are quite charismatic.

User Image
Askani: Possibly the best with magic, Askani-universe types have a deep sense of kinship and honor, as well as a flexible approach to life. Their hard-headed problem-solving mentality, however, can occasionally cause problems.

It should be noted that these are only guidelines to the Konokai - like humans, they run the gamut, and can resemble this profile or not. The symbol for a Konokai's universe is the second in the row at the bottom of the cert.

There are currently six types of Konokai, each with their own distinct features and markings. Some types are more commonly connected to certain universes than others.

User Image
Anthro: A Konokai that has the features of a natural animal, such as a cat, wolf, weasel, etc. This is usually ears, a tail, facial markings, and/or paws. Most anthros are from the Askani or Lightburst Universes.

User Image
Maganthro: Not the same as Anthro, a Konokai who is Maganthro has the features of a mythical animal, such as a dragon, a unicorn, a grphon, etc. Like the Anthro, however, it usually consists of ears, a tail, facial markings, scale patches, wings and/or paws. Maganthros are mostly from the Slider or Avalon universe.

User Image
Angelic: These Konokai have a circular halo, feathered wings, and occasionally runic tattoos. Most come from the Mage universe.

User Image
Deamonic: (Yes, it's spelled correctly; it comes from a Glyphic word that means 'demonic but not evil.') Konokai of the Deamonic type have horns of various shapes and sizes, demonic tails, and occasional tattoos or claws. They are usually from the Summoner universe.

User Image
Clown: Unlike the English connotations of funny or foolish clowns, the Clown type consists of those Konokai who look mostly human. They usually have very vivid coloring - either dark or light - and have multiple facial / arm markings. This type is equally likely to come from any of the universes. Special themed Konokai will usually be listed under the Clown type.

User Image
Mecha: Mecha Konokai are those who resemble androids or have talent with mechanical or electrical objects. They can come in all sorts of coloring, but all have some sort of mechanical connection, whether it's a mecha-electric bracelet as their item or an actual android or machine body part.

(There will probably be a few special type auctions / raffles / contests later on, but these are it for now. If you're ording a custom but not sure what it falls under, ask here or PM me about it.)

Rune Traverse:

The founder of the Konokai and the owner of the Adoption Center, Rune is a Slider from the same universe who stays in Gaia to get away from her rather famous Slider family. A sucker for children - her own especially - she posesses a quick wit and an intense loyalty for those she admires or trusts. That isn't to say she doesn't have her faults, though; aside from quite a bit of sarcasm and a vengful streak, she is rather easily embarrassed about certain things and hates looking stupid. She also has a knack for blowing things up when she gets angry or stressed, something that drives her nuts.

Nikki and Shazran:

Part of the original Konokai trio who first came to Rune, Nikki and Shazran are also some of the only Konokai to have gone directly from items to children. Nikki is very shy due to the scars on her face and tends to hide behind her hair; Shazran is also quiet, but is both confident and cold when it comes to people he doesn't quite know.

Not pictured

Thrall and Ramene:

Not very much is known about Thrall, other than the fact that she comes from a universe different than either Rune or Shiloh and knows something about magic. Small and sandy-blond, she tends to wear jeans and a baggy sweatshirt most of the time; she also wears glasses and her eyes - normally dark green - change to a light blue green when working spells. Ramene is her Konokai child, a strange little angelic girl with pale skin, black and white hair and gorgeous, white and black feathered wings. Her eyes are a vivid sapphire blue, and she often carries a bladed staff.

Cody and Aries:

Another pair of Konokai that ended up with Rune, Cody and Aries are a Clown boy and an Anthro eagle girl, respectively. Like the trickester Illuzen demi-god he was named after, Cody likes to play pranks, although he's toned it down quite a bit since Ravenbrooke the Banir Kinder tied him to his bed; Aries is extremely active and most often found in the air, with her mini-dragon Nyle.

Kado and Illuzen: A pair of merry prankster fosterlings from the Saga of Illuzen RP, they'll show up occasionally to amuse themselves and cause trouble. Kado is a small Elf with pointed ears, silver-green eyes and shockingly bright red hair done in spikes; Illuzen, a demi-goddess's child, has short, medium brown hair and eyes that change color depending on her mood. Kado has very few magical abilities, although he is a skilled acrobat. Illuzen can use any of the Illuzen elements at will, though she must drop one before using another.

Mana and Amire: Another pair of fosterlings, this time from the Misty Rose Bar and Inn in Sierre Rafel. Mana is a small, hyperactive little girl with short, dark hair and pale gray eyes; her 'brother,' the silent and cool Amire, has the same eyes but blond hair he usually wears in a ponytail.

Brodie: The man who runs the stables for HQ and within Illuzen as well. Tall, weathered and muscled like iron, he has a soft spot for kids but takes no nonsense from anyone.

More will probably be added as more places are found within the RPs.

The magicks of the Konokai are a many-splendored thing . . . some have control over a single element, some can manipulate physical or elemental things, some are psychic, and some are just plain odd. Here are a few samples of the magics (as listed in the certs) and what they entail.

Dark / Light / Water / etc. (e): Control and use or the element stated; usually related to the eleven Illuzen elements, although there are some from the other universes as well. The actual powers themselves depend on the element(s) involved.

Alter / Restore / etc (a): Not available yet, but there are six special styles of magic called the Aeon schools of magic.

Phasing: The ability to phase themselves or other things through objects by magically enhancing the subject's atomic structure. The limits and range depend on the Konokai's strength.

Sun / Sand / Shadow (m): Similar to the elemental abilities, This is a less focused, manipulation talent. Usually used in making solid creations; the more detailed an object is or the more of them, the higher the power involved.

Psychometry: The ability to see where an object or person has been by touch alone. What is seen is entirely dependant on the power of the Konokai.

Note: All Konokai are telepathic and have limited telekinetic / energy projection powers. These aren't listed in the certs as they are considered common gifts.

Roleplaying is everything for the Konokai, especially in terms of growth. A Konokai who isn't roleplayed doesn't grow, and will remain at their current stage indefinitely. The roleplay itself can be done in many different ways, from here in the thread (or in other shop threads, if they allow it) to the journals. If I haven't set you up a journal, and you either have one yourself or would like one, please let me know. The shop still isn't quite organized. sweatdrop

Roleplaying in the Shop thread: I encourage this immensely, 'cause it's easy for me to see who's been RPing and who hasn't. This can be done in formal or informal, but I prefer a formal past tense post so I don't confuse myself. *snicker*

Roleplaying and Growing:

Like it says up there, a Konokai who isn't played doesn't grow, pure and simple. But there are ways to grow your Konokai with minimum RP time. The scrolls in the mini-shop, when purchased, represent a certain type of quest which your Konokai can undergo. The Search Scroll requires you to find and / or purchase a certain something for your child; the Recieve Scroll means you must recieve a certain item from someone else. Magick Scrolls require a magical ritual to be performed - usually in RP - and Social Scrolls ask for some sort of social interaction, like a playdate or an adventure. The exact quest will be based on the child's personality and the nature of the growth - that is, growing from Item to Baby will be an easier quest than growing from Toddler to Kid, or from Kid to a Special Stage. These scrolls can also be used for the gaining of new powers or special prizes, but please PM Rune for the details.

If you're still not sure you want to RP your Konokai, consider that all special stages depend on the direction your RP takes him / her. For example, if a child has certain family members they've grown close to, the child may start to look more like that important person; or, if there is an animal they're fond of, it may appear in the cert with them. Sometimes these won't be a good thing - I plan on a major bit in the near future that'll scare some of you - but overall, they're kind of fun. So come RP!

At the moment, I am accepting pet trades, but I have a few conditions for them:
~They cannot be a high-RP or RP-intensive pet. I'm sorry, but if I'm running the HQ and doing classwork AND writing novels, I very much doubt I'll have time for a lot of RPing. (the exceptions to this rule are an Artifae, Anime cosplay children, or a Banir Kinder. I've figured out a way to make time for them.)
~They cannot be pixelated, itty-bitty floating-head type pets. I just don't like them, I'm sorry. sweatdrop
~Putting them in my sig cannot be required. They will be posted in my journal and RPed lovingly, but my sig will be devoted to HQ advertising.

Other than that, I'm open to most things. If you're not sure, post on the thread or PM me with a pic of the pet you'd like to trade. I'll reply with what I'd be willing to trade for it, or politely turn it down.

Things Rune would absolutely adore and dreams about getting:

~I GOT MIRELLE AND KIRIKA!!!! *glomps Korini* MINE!!!
~A Japanese / Celtic Artifae (probably not.)
~A Yuffie, Anastasia or Aeris Disney Baby from the Magic Kingdom (No, Anastasia is technically not Disney. But I want one!!)
~Another Banir Kinder (*hugglez Ravenbrooke and Shiran* Mine!)
~A Prismasprite in blue, green, silver or red (Sooo dreaming.)
~A dragon Child of the Paper (*wishing, wishing*)
~A Plush in blue, green, silver or red. (*hugglez Mass and Keily* Also mine! xd )

Gifties:

Ha, I can dream, can't I? Well, I've made gifts for other people, and I notice very few people have a list of gifts they'd enjoy, so I figured I'd make this now. The same conditions for my pet trades apply to gifts; I appreciate the effort, but the same reasons I wouldn't accept a pet trade would also apply for a gift. Basically, if I don't think I can do the pet justice, I won't accept it.

Here is where you'll be able to purchase the Scrolls necessary for your Konokai's growth. The actual toys, weapons, potions and such created for them will be sold in a separate mini-shop, the link for which will be posted here shortly.

Okay, this is a sort of "Needs to be known" thing, so I'm putting it here. It's especially important for anyone who wants to do themed Konokai based on other Gaia pets, or on various anime / novels / video games / etc.

Although there will be anime / novel / video game themed Konokai available for sale, these Konokai will have no relation to the actual anime. They can look like specific characters, even have similar personality traits if you want. However, they are not the actual anime character, nor have they been the character in a past life or some such like that. The reason for this is simple; the Konokai are a unique concept from my own novels, and I really don't like the idea of having characters not created specifically for them. Also, there is another shop - *insert the ACC link here* - that deals with anime charries, and as I adore both the shop and the people in it, I would never do anything that resembles a clone shop. If you want the actual anime character, talk to Korini or Tenshi.

A similar saying goes for those who want their Konokai to look just like other Gaian breedables, such as the Fa'e (absolutely not happening), the Banir Kinder, or the Masqerade kids. Angelic and Daemonic Konokai can resemble a Banir you might already have, but Arafel must agree to it, and they will not be actual fallen angels or risen demons. There will also be an opportunity for your Konokai to become PlaneChanged (which involves them gaining masks and specific powers); some Konokai will also grow out of masks. However, there will be as little relation to Masqerade and the other mask-breedables already out there as I can manage. I remember Masquerade when it was just starting out, and I respect both Ice and Trinity immensely, so there will be no cloning that shop, either.
