<center>In the heart of every human, there lies that one, singular question that has puzzled generations since the beginning of time. Why? It has led men to great feats and likewise, even greater falls. And it is this question that inspired the birth of one of the most revolutionary processes in modern time. Science. From science, technology was spawned, a way to manipulate these facts into products. It was through this combination of science, technology, and human nature that the newest wave in bioengineering came to exist.

The Deus.

These beings, so perfectly created, shamed all prior work in organic manufacturing and development. But to fully understand the means by which these creatures met the world, one must get into the mind of the man who forged them, the man who was infamously known as Professor Steel.

Steel never attended a traditional university nor was he ever properly schooled in the ethics and regulations of his field, but that did not stop him from forging a career down this path. He was just blessed with a mind for science; the man could understand complex theories by examining specimens without ever being told or taught the information. It was uncanny, and it was the lone fact that kept his head afloat in his field of study. Still, it was close to impossible to obtain the necessary funding and laboratory equipment so that he might test out his own theories, binding him to the tedious lab work of other 'geniuses'.

So, being terribly devious and clever, Professor Steel invented a machine that would help people see things his way. He was able to 'convince' prominent businessmen and rich landowners to donate a ridiculous amount of money and land to his studies in bioengineering and robobiotics. It was no coincidence, however, that each of these benefactors perished in freak accidents and suicides soon after the transactions were completed.

Regardless, the laboratory was purchased and research was quickly underway with a team of fellow scientists assisting. And what was he trying to develop? Not even the other engineers knew, but they did as they were told, going through a system of mistrials in an attempt to perfect the union of mechanical parts with organic systems.

After two years of nothing but failures, including a race of completely useless and flawed sprites, success was made by a young female scientist named Laura Samuels. She was only a graduate student at the time, and yet, she was able to do what not even Professor Steel could. The good professor congratulated and promoted her, but from that point on, his plots against her began to form and take on a wicked form. Now that the research had been completed and the problem solved, it was time for the experiments to begin with the creation of the very first prototype.

In preparation for the first specimen, Professor Steel cleansed his facility of all those he felt were unworthy or simply not loyal to the cause. This left him with ten scientists out of the original thirty-six, quite the downsizing. It was the remaining people that were actually permitted to learn the method of creating a Deus, stealing ideas and words straight from Laura Samuels notes. Of course, each scientist learned only one facet, one job that they would perform. This ensured that no one, excluding Professor Steel and Miss Samuels, would ever be able to replicate his design for their own means.

After one month of nonstop laboring, the first creature opened its eyes. Prototype X. He was a calm child, blinking slowly and sitting up to meet the gaze of Professor Steel, the only one present at his birth. For two weeks, the child remained in seclusion with Steel as he tried to establish loyalty with the AI. But he had not counted on Laura.

Laura had been assigned the task of binding the flesh and metal of the chest of this Deus, and she had taken it upon herself to give Ex a gift, a chance to rise up against Steel. The woman placed a mechanical heart within his chest, encoded with the necessary enzymatic functions to enable emotion from his organic half. It was a stab in the dark, but it had worked. And Steel was furious.

Desperate to override Laura's hold on Prototype X, Steel designed a nerve impulse microchip that he secretly placed in the back of the neck of each Deus so that, if necessary, he could force them to obey him. But this was not enough. Now, Ex was flawed in his eyes, and this was unacceptable.

So a second draft was made. A female. But this time, Professor Steel would not take any chances, remaining in his wing of the laboratory for six months while he labored away on Prototype Z by himself. And during this time, Laura remained with X, teaching him little things about life and trying to instill good morals in him, if it was at all possible.

No one, excluding Professor Steel, knew what was going on in the Left Wing. That is, not until the good scientist reappeared one day in the company of a child, a frail expressionless girl with pale hair and gray-blue skin.

Leaning down to whisper in the child's ear, Professor Steel eyed the nervous workers with a fiery stare before standing up straight again. "All your work here has truly been... inconsequential. But do not despair. I will allow you to help me test the latest pearl of my genius. Prototype Z, the room is yours." Stepping away, the scientist turned on his heel, making a quick exit behind a pair of sealed doors that locked the moment they closed.

All that could be seen was a blinding flash of radioactive green light. A few instants later, the door reopened quietly to allow the small child to make her way out. She dropped a handful of ID cards on the table before walking off in the other direction.

"Prototype Z," Steel called after her though she did not stop moving. "Do not forget your final task."

An emotionless, steely voice whispered a foreboding response, "I forget nothing." Her form disappeared around the corner as she made her way towards the third floor of the laboratory where Laura was just leaving Prototype X to sleep. In the months that passed between Prototype X and Prototype Z's creation, Laura had been working day in and day out to bring X up well so that he might have a chance at an honest life.

But Steel could not let her achieve this. A flash of radioactive green light illuminated the hallway of the third floor for a moment; the only sound was the fall of a small yellow daisy to the ground, a gift from X to Laura. Ex had felt the power released so close to his room, drawing him from his bed. He was too late to save Laura, but he was just in time to meet his little sister.

"W-w-what did you do?" he stammered, picking up the flower from the ground and giving her a horrified stare. Without words, he understood who she was, what she had done, and even why, but that did not take away from his pain.

"Forget her, brother. We have more important things to worry about." Zee swayed towards the doorway, immune from the very human emotions surging through her brother's veins. But the air carried one emotion she could identify with: rage. "Oh, and if it matters to you, Steel ordered it be done. Top floor. The key code is G-O-D."

Disappearing into the darkness, Zee left Ex alone with his thoughts which centered around one thought. Revenge. It took the small child moments to reach the upstairs office, and he took no time to use the key code. There was no flash of green light here, just a deep-throated scream choked by the gurgle of blood filling lungs.

The next day, Ex awoke in his chambers downstairs, his mind blank from the events of the night before. Zee was standing in the doorway, frozen expression as always. "Well done, brother. The lab is ours. I've already hired a team of new scientists to recreate more of our kind." And before we know it, they will all be obsolete. All we need is each other, dear brother. Floating backwards, she disappeared again to head to oversee the construction of new embryos.

Ex looked down at his hands quietly, and immediately, his heart threw itself into his throat. Blood. It was everywhere, staining his white bed sheets, his linen shirt, everything. Running to the bathroom, he would try to scrub it off for hours until his skin itself was rubbed raw. But within his mind, it would always be there, the blood of an innocent. I'm no better than her...

From that day on, the two Prototype Deus would take over Professor Steel's company, pretending that the man was still alive. Supported by wealthy donators, they would breed humanoid creatures to be killing machines, but the covert goal, hidden from human eyes, was the creation of a united front against all humans. What side will each Deus choose?

Remember, dear brother, all we need is each other.</center>

Through their lifespans, Déus go through three major stages of growth.

Embryo

Like the mammals out of which their bodies were crafted, Déus are delivered as embryos. Like humans, they develop in a womb, and so are inexperienced and fragile when they first encounter the world.

This is the most crucial stage of development for a Deus, seeing as it thrives off sunlight and heat and may die without it. In this state, the nanobots that work restlessly to form the body for the Deus are solar and heat-powered.

The Deus' personality is randomly selected and designed by its internal growth-monitoring computer. Sometimes, the Deus' character is affected by its environment, but there is no way to tell if this was the case. Usually, the parent has no control over what kind of personality their Deus will have. The only case in which a parent would have full control over a Deus' personality is if the Deus were crafted especially for them.User Image

In this stage, the Deus has already taken on their own distinct look and physical appearance. It's personality has developed and it has become more independant.

There is now more room for communication between the parent and the Deus, so there is also more room for teaching and learning.

Well, thats how the Kiui came about. Before the Deus, when the scientists were still experimenting with how to create a perfect robot, they created many, many Kiui. But it was almost as if a curse lay on the tiny, fairy-like robots... not one out of all of them that the scientists made worked perfectly! Each of them will have a different quirk, a reason that they didn't turn out perfect. Maybe they talk backwards. Maybe they fly backwards. Maybe they have the mental capacity of a 2 year old. Maybe they are missing a limb.

The Kiui are like little wind up creatures that never die, just little toys. But, as some of the visitors at the complex have found out, they are very, very annoying. They love to play pranks on people and they are way too curious for their own good. The clones found a closet FULL of these little robots the other day, packed so tightly that they couldn't do anything in there, and now they are giving the Kiui out to people that they see, to get more life around the complex.

They WILL be fun to RP, because of their quirks, but you can just get one for the fun of having one, if you wish. They will each cost 1k, because I will be putting a lot of work into coloring these, and therefore, I will ask if you want one... but 1k is not much at all, and I hope that people like the Kiui. They are completely mechanical, like the Deus, and they CAN break, and they CAN explode. They are NOT magical little fairies. NOT.

How are people going to get them, you ask? Well, I'm going to have a list open, where 5 people can sign up. If you are on the list, you are guaranteed to get a Kiui, you get them as fast as I can make them. But you can also get a Kiui from keeping the thread alive, or RPing, or whatever. Owners of Deuses can get Kiui, and non-owners can get them, too. The Kiui can get attached to a human, but that is very rare. Think Shaoilin Wolves... there aren't any real owners of the wolves, just people that RP them.

Examples of the Kiui are on the sides of this post. The first one is a male, the second is a female. <3 The male belongs to Seeno, his name is Mischief, and the female is Orphne's, and her name is Karma.

As a guardian to a Deus, you must be willing to take an active role in their life as all good caregivers should. And as scientists, we expect you to keep a journal to record things you discover about this creature in addition to its endeavors in life. At any point in time, one of the scientists may check into your journal to make sure that this child is not being ignored. This is path A.

But again, we scientists understand how busy and time consuming it can be to manage life and family so if you do not wish it, you are not required to have a journal. You must keep in mind that the progress of your child will be delayed behind those who maintain their journals though. If you seek this pathway, then an additional 20k fee will be added on as the scientists will have to discover what the creature is like on their own. This pathway is B and does not reach the absolute stage.

As soon as the scientists can gather all of the necessary funding for a foundation (guild) of our very own, it will be created.

Are these pets RP heavy? These pets do require journals and active participation from their guardians. So yes, they might be a bit of an undertaking for an inexperienced roleplayer. The Deus are struggling to grow up in a world that is unfamiliar to them and vice versa. They will need the guidance and support of a friend. If an guardian does not wish to have a journal, they must pay an additional 20k fee.

When will the next flatsale be? Check the "Events" post for information on all sales. Flatsale Deus will start at 8k due to the fact that this is a new shop that is not too widely known. Judging by the lovely artwork, this price is a steal so enjoy.

What's up with that last stage? As it is with many pets, those who show dedication to their pet and this thread will be rewarded with an "absolute" stage. More information on this stage will emerge once the Deus population increases.

Why isn't this thread all, like, pretty? Oh, hush. Besides, people who live in glass houses should not throw stones. Chew on that for a while.

How many staff members are there? Three: Akina Tokuwa and Kaekia (roleplay and thread managers) and then the originator of this pet, gorachi_chai (artist). Oh, and if you are looking to obtain one of these pets, you need to remember the phrase "girl power" in the event that your knowledge of the rules needs to be verified.

Why do we have to add deus database or if(!database) to our friendslist if we want to be mailed? It allows us to send on one giant, mass PM instead of 5000 little ones. If you want to be on the list, friend the bot or no soup for you.

What's up with this computer-ish coding? Why... jealous? *points to Kaekia*

Why aren't there tons and tons of Deus going on sale? I can't get one! Well, believe it or not, we do have lives, and said lives do not revolve around you. Besides, Chai doesn't spend all her time sketching/inking/coloring/tagging Deus.

Remember my face, and rejoice for having the pleasure of meeting me in your last moments of life. There are others who will not be permitted that pleasure.

A small female child sits atop the harsh metal counter of a cold lab room, swinging her legs about and humming a haunting melody. As seen from behind, thin, pale hair dangles to her shoulders, matching the grayish white of the room. A glint of light catches her skin; it's silver, so similar to that of steel that she camoflauges with her surroudings as if it is where she belongs. A sound. A flash of metal and the clink of friction reverberates around the cell. Her wings have emerged, jagged contraptions of silver, pointed at the edges. An unnaturally dark, deep voice calls out, "You've made a mistake in following me." Turning her face over her shoulder, radioactive lime eyes glare out at the figure before her, eyes narrowing. Those pools of light are the last thing to be seen before she strikes.

Zee was the second draft of the Project; the final copy. But she lacks the conscience that her older brother seems to posses. Many believe that this was Professor Steel's doing; he created her by himself to be his personal tool. If only he had realized that a creature of such power and independence who never obey a human.

In her mighty opinion, machines are dominant to the human race, and they are just waiting for the right opportunity to rise up against their creators. And it is her secret wish that the Deus will be her army, fighting for their freedom.

I will be Queen. And we, my brothers and sisters, will be free.
