Walking through the hallways of the laboratory, Zee had been well on her way to finding her brother; she could feel that he was up to something. But the tug of a Deus seeking to be awakened pulled at the lobes of her brain, and she had no choice but to follow where it led.

Within moment, she was upon the room, staring at the embryo as it swirled with its glass prison. This task of uploading was not even close to being the first thing on the cold creature's mind as she attached herself to the control panel, allowing the new Deus to come forth using her spark.

As always, the lid lifted off quietly, and she could sense another lid opening in harmony with her own. Ah yes, another Deus had to be coming forth at this very same time at her brother's hands. No matter, the mist poured from the structure as Zee lazily murmured, "I give you the gift of oscillating emotions. You change your emotions and attitudes so quickly that you can easily convince yourself that someone you once loved is an enemy... and vice versa."

It wasn't her best work, but it was enough. Floating back out of the room, she was gone before the child even set foot on the cold laboratory floor.

But when the mist cleared...

(( Two Deus were uploaded at the same time, so Perri's will not get Zee's gift, and yours will not get Ex gift. You can either have the two Deus feel a connection to each other, or not. It's up to you.))

The Discovery
Today, when I returned to my lab, I came across an interesting discovery. So interesting ? and surprising ? that I dropped all that I was carrying in shock. The Blob is no longer a blob. It?s ? or rather he ? has emerged from its jar and taken on the form of a young child. Much like some of the other experiments I?ve seen around the building.

He?s a quiet little thing, curious and cold when he does speak, but occasionally appealing with bouts of compassion or a warm little smile. His mood seems to change rapidly from moment to moment, and it seems easily influenced and receptive to his surroundings. It must be daunting to suddenly he hurled into a world like this, so I have hope that he might settle down after a while? though I?ll just have to deal with it if he doesn?t.

Later, I took the boy along to see Perri. As we received our embryos at the same time, it seemed logical that they should? be ?born? at the same time. She has a little girl named Lorelei. Now if only I can think of a suitable name for him?

For the first time since her arrival, Ren was genuinely happy. Her smile could have easily broken into a jaunty whistle as she strolled down the dazzling corridors back to her part of the laboratory. The reason for her high spirits was simple, and cradled in her arms. Her letter had got through after all, and her parents had replied dutifully, so now an open cardboard package contain book after book ? from dusty old volumes about world history to novels and children?s fairytales ? bounced precariously in her grip.

With her mind elsewhere, she didn?t notice the boy sitting cross-legged on the floor of the lab at first. When she did though ? a couple of seconds after realising there was something vastly different about the room ? she stumbled backwards and the package slid from her arms. Books went flying everywhere, skittering across the floor and under the desk. She didn?t move to pick them up though, far too intent on staring at the child. He just regarded her through a curtain of feathery golden hair, one eyebrow raised in curiosity. Had he really managed to shock the human woman so much without even doing anything?

Slowly, he leant forward to pick up one of the scattered novels before pulling himself to his feet, still feeling vaguely lethargic from his sudden materialization. ?Here. You dropped this.? His tone was clipped and precise, and he drew his hand away quickly once the human had taken the book from it.

?Thank you,? Ren paused, holding the book tightly to stop her palms from shaking. Collecting her wits, she breathed deeply and began to clear up the rest of the books, placing them on the desk next to her monitor. Noting the lass now ? now only containing a few pearly drops of the clear fluid that had been in there previously ? she glanced round at him again. ?When did you? arrive??

?Only a short while ago,? he said. Sitting back down again without moving his eyes from her back, the two bells on his outfit jingling sharply in the room?s cool air, he frowned. It was eerily clear that the woman was afraid of him ? or at least wary. Ren only nodded once she?d finished with the rest of the books and sat down on her swivel chair. Lacing her fingers together in her lap, she considered just how to deal with the newly arisen situation.

?Okay then,? she began, ?my name?s Ren and I guess I?ll be the one taking care of you for now.? The question of his own name surfaced in her mind again, but she quickly dismissed it, catching the near horrified expression he was wearing. ?What?s the matter??

?You?re looking after me?? he snapped, staring at her in disbelief. Not only was that term insulting ? he felt perfectly sure he could watch himself, he didn?t need a caretaker ? but the woman was evidently incompetent to do such a task well. ?No!? He jumped to his feet again, glaring at her. Ren recoiled as if she?d been hit, but then rose herself and walked over to kneel down to his level.

?Whether you like the idea or not, I don?t think we have a choice in the matter. Please, I was just a little? astonished when I found you in here. I?m used to watching a swirling dollop of black and yellow in a jar, not a child?? she reached out to push some of his silky hair away from his narrowed eyes with cold fingers. A gesture she?d often used on her siblings to soothe them, and seeing this child in obviously turbulent feelings compelled her to do the same. ?So please just give me a chance. What do you say??

She?d expected him to pull away, to remain angry, but instead his frown just melted into a confused pout. ?I don?t know.? Well it was better than the irritated retort of earlier. With a faint, airy smile Ren moved away back to her chair once more.

For some time they watched one another from opposite ends of the room, before Ren announced sheepishly that she had someone she wanted to see, and that she wasn?t prepared to leave him alone there. The pair of them headed out to find Perri and her Deus shortly after?
