· merryweather institute for witches and wizards ·

- Merryweather Institute for Witches and Wizards has been open since 1692. When the world revolted harshly against the presence of magical beings, Ann Merryweather thought that it was imperative for young witches and wizards to have a safe haven to learn and grow. She took it upon herself to gather willing workers and build an institute of learning for the children. Parents that suspected their children had magical abilities were instructed to observe their children until their fifth birthdays. On that birthday, the parents would have either previously noticed some strange happenings and knew that their children was a witch or wizard and receive a letter—or their children was normal and the parents would be subjected to extensive paperwork and oaths to ensure absolute secrecy for the magical community.
Once the child was accepted to the school, he or she would be assigned to one of the dormitories according to their age group. There were three dormitory buildings: one of the buildings was for the youngest children from ages five to nine; then there was the second building for those children in the middle from ten to fourteen; and finally, there was the building for the oldest children from fifteen to eighteen.
The student would attend the school until he/she dropped out or graduation. During the first five years at the school, each student would learn the basic plebeian knowledge and core magic as well. This core magic would allow them to perform simple magic with little control and no finesse.
The next five years, the student's curriculum would expand for more rigorous course instruction; some students advance to a higher level and some lag behind. These courses would include some basics in pre-algebra or algebra, physical science, world history, and grammar. The magical courses would also become stricter and allow the student's abilities to expand; the student would have intermediate control and little finesse.
During the student's last years at Merryweather, he/she would have to open his or her mind to core concepts and introspection is crucial for the student's success. The student will choose his or her own course of study in these years. There will be no deviation from their course once their eleventh year is reached. The last four years are essential for the finesse and specialization of the student's magical abilities. The student would also learn its last nonmagical courses in these years as well. (Unless he or she decided to attend college.)
If the child makes it through this time at Merryweather, he/she will be considered licensed to use advanced forms of magic and a specialist in his or her magic of choice.
