It was late February and snow seemed to fall perpetually on the war torn country, leaving behind grey slush in the gutters beside the ancient, grey-brick buildings beside the grey factories to make the grey bricks and turned the normally white, snow-cloud sky a sickly ash grey. Everything was grey in the steam-run city, even the people who were starting to feel the after effects of the reluctantly lost war.
Still, within the grey, shrouded winter there were small patches of brightness and one of these was the Stargazer Cafe--as in, stargazer lilies, of course, though no one ever questioned why it was a tiger lily on the sign instead of the cafe's namesake. It was just a little, comfort-driven outfit, which is run by an attractive, young man and some of his close friends and frequented by the ladies for their tea, gentlemen for discussing important matters, and some other creatures too.
You see, behind the cafe was another room, also owned by this young man that only opened its doors after dark and only to those who knew the key. Within was the cafe's true namesake. The room itself was painted the deepest blue and speckled with little, silver stars to make it seem like one really was stargazing. The carpets were plush and the chairs even more so. The room was littered with overstuffed chairs and couches, some facing each other, some simply facing the room. A small bar was along the far wall where drinks could be made for the patrons, but just who was it who came here?
They were most commonly known as the Stargazer's society and this was where they met, let in only if they knew the password--which was Orion--and could show the silver, telescope charm that is received upon being accepted. While to any outsider, it was just a tiny gentlemen's club, but to the insiders, it was a sanctuary.
Vampires!
Yes, that's right. While the government really didn't care for them, they had no laws prohibiting their existence, unless, of course, they drank too much and killed someone. That was, after all, how the cafe had come to the hands of this kind young man when his sire had been locked away for killing an innocent person. Still, that's beside the point.
The point being, this was where they came to feed and to spend time with those of their own race. Even the cafe was a place where Vampires could come and simply chat in the late hours of the day, after the sun had gone down.
Welcome to the Stargazer's society.
