THE POINT OF NO RETURN

Many refer to the eighteenth century as the age of ignorance; a new world still clinging to old beliefs. During the century's great vampire scare, the superstitions of Eastern Europe swept across the continent. The word 'vampire' was introduced into the English language, and the existence of vampires became a subject under debate. Stories and rumors of vampires turned up frequently, and whole cemeteries were desecrated to destroy the evil within. Now, science has proven the signs of vampirism wrong. However, there are some things that can't be explained.

I have never been a superstitious man, but there are some things that go beyond all reason. The events of these past two days still prey heavy on my thoughts, and I am pressed to write them down in this journal. There are those that will tell you strigoi are just the peasants' scapegoat. They blame all their troubles on demons, missing livestock or ill luck. Everything that goes wrong is caused by supernatural forces. However, these past two night prove that not all superstitions are without reason.

The night before last, I was invited to dinner with the Szekely household. We had just sat down to dinner when an uninvited guest came through the door. The man looked haggard. His white hair was long and unkempt. His nails were long and pointed. It was as if he were a walking corpse. In the silence that followed his appearance, the man sat down, and after a moment, he was served as well. The dinner was a quiet one. I had no idea who this man was, but there was something unsettling about him. However, at the end of the meal, the host told all of us to clear the room. Since it was late, the lady of the house offered me a room.

The next morning, I awoke to screams. Veles Szekely was dead. He had been drained of all his blood, and there was no sign of the mysterious guest. When I asked about the stranger, Szekely's wife told me the man was Veles's father. He had been dead and buried for ten years.

ABOUT THE ROLE PLAY

The Point of No Return is set in the 1800s. Bodies are found drained. Loved ones are returning from the grave. Whole cemeteries are being desecrated to destroy the evil within. The vampire scare of the eighteenth century is over, but the villagers cling to the old ways. Though there is very little proof of these undead monsters, there is no denying the power behind the rumors.

PLOT:

One man, an officer, documented his discovery of vampires in a single journal. His journal is the key to unlocking the whereabouts of the master vampire. Unfortunately, the man disappeared twenty-one years ago. Yet, the pages of his journal remain behind, scattered. While the slayers guild tries to collect the remaining pages, there are agents of the master vampire who are working to destroy them.

SETTING:

In Eastern Europe, there is a town called Tulcea. To one side of the town, there is the church and its graveyard. To the other side, there is a path into the dark forest. It is said that werewolves makes their homes in forest, and the villagers tend to avoid it unless it is absolutely necessary to pass through it.

CHARACTERS NEEDED:

Villagers: Some male villagers would be nice.

Slayers: Possibly another female.

Werewolves: Maybe one more female.

Vampires: Three or four more really needed!

EXTRA INFO:

This role play will take place over a guild. Once the forums are ready, and we have enough people, the guild will open up.

The genre for this role play is horror fantasy. Though it is set in a historical period, the role play itself will not be 100% accurate to the time period.

There are many events and such already planned for this role play, so being active member is a plus. : )

Human: Nothing special here. Can be a normal villager or a slayer.

Werewolf: The day before, the day of, and the day after the full moon, they turn into a wolf. Completely human the rest of the time. However, their senses are heightened, and they are allergic to silver. They make excellent slayers.

Vampire: Not like the typical slavic vampires. The ones who look like corpses aren't vampires. They are merely corpses reanimated to do a vampire's bidding. If a human is bitten by a vampire before their death, they can be brought back by the vampire. A real vampire appears to be human, and for the most part, can live like one. While a reanimated corpse may not appear during the day, a vampire is not bothered by the run. A minion will be turned away by the odor of garlic, but a vampire has no problem with the smell. Crucifixes only have power if the one holding it believes in its power. A minion cannot stand the sight of one, while an elder vampire may on flinch. Vampires need the blood of the living to survive, and cannot consume solid foods (they would make them ill). They have superhuman strength and heightened senses. To become a vampire, a human must drink their blood and be drained in return. To kill a vampire, you must either cut off their head or burn their body.

Understand there are not many vampire or werewolves around. Slayers mostly fight the minions of vampires than the vampires themselves.

History: Growing up, Sasha had always been the one who was quiet. Her parents were generally good to her, but her father's alcoholic tendencies gave him mood swings, leading to Sasha being beaten many times. She lived with her parents until she was twenty, then she gave up on her father and went out. That same night was when she recieved that fatal bite, making her a Lycanthrope. At first, it had frightened her and she tried everything, even killing herself. But, after a year, she met another one of her kind and she was taken into a pack. She learned to love her new abilities and what she was and the pack became the loving family she never had. That one who had taken her in was like a father to her, and she took up residence with him. Then the Vampire Minions came, killing her pack. She barely survived, with the treacherous scar on her face as a souviner of the battle. History: Born as Romanian nobility, her small village was burned to the ground and she was taken-along with other young girls in the village- as a concubine to the perpetrators. She was found by a vampire lord and became a full-fledged vampire with time. She denied her race for quite a few years after that but, she finally realised what she was and what always would be. She accepted it with open arms. Her lord was killed by slayers several years later and once again she managed to escape with minor injuries.

Later in her unnatural life she met with Bernât and has sired beside him for the last several years.

One by one though, people of the village were beginning to be found dead, and his young mind automatically went to a conclusion – vampires. His dream come true. With a smirk, the young boy, around the age of thirteen or fourteen, snuck out one night to track the vampires down…

And he was never seen since. He was presumed dead, along with the other half of the village.

He had been found by a vampire, a real one, not some lowly minion, and accepted, no, asked, almost begged to become one. Yes, the reason he had left his village was not to slay the culprits of the village’s death, but to aid them. Domovoi’s plea was answered graciously, and he soon joined the ranks of the vampire race.

And then her friend left, off to the main cities to become a scholar. Her last words to Vera were to tell her that such dreams of being a slayer were ridiculous, especially since they were girls. Vera was alone. Perhaps it would’ve been a better idea to make more friends…

Vera continued to study to become a slayer, now determined to achieve the dream she and her friend made, though it was not in good spirit. She worked to become one to prove that becoming a slayer was not such a fairy tale. She would become a slayer. Her friend’s corpse could rot when she was killed by a vampire.

And guess what? She became a slayer.

History: Emilia Ivanka Malenkov. Or so she thinks. The truth is, Emilia cannot remember her past before she was turned. The man who turned her- Damek- said that sometimes, the mind blacks memories out that which it does not wish us to remember. Emilia knows nothing of her true birth or true family. The only things she does remember are distant thoughts that come to her nightmares. It doesn't phase her. Emilia is torn between the two world, human and vampire. Parts of her have always wanted to be normal, to be kind, and others are controlled by the bloodlust and driven by anger. Among vampires, she has quite a reputation for being ambivalent and dangerous to herself and others, no matter the race. Despite this, she is an excellent, skilled fighter, and an excellent guard of noble vampires.

Not realizing the injured being for what it truly was, Kamil extended a hand and helped the vampire escape from the slayer. He believed that he was helping an injured man run away from bandits. Once the two were alone, Kamil's mind finally fit the pieces together. He would have ran away in horror but was fascinated by the vampire. Kamil struck a deal with the vampire that he would leave his dying village to live with the vampire. After spending three years under the vampire's service, Kamil Veles was turned into a vampire at the cost of his survival. He murdered his own mentor and soon traveled alone, hiding under the guise of a merchant. Well-established, he loyally serves the Master Vampire without question although his true intentions are unclear.

It would continue untill the day before her sixteenth birthday... That was the day it all changed. That day, the one she thought her love stole her away her and killed her mother, though she never knew the entire truth... And she always thought her brother had died as well...

Then it happened, she was forced into her transformation... Forced to become a vampire. At first, she was disgusted with what she had become. Though, after time, she came to love and respect this which she was blessed with. She became intent on pleasing the elder vampires and serving their will.

History: Havek was once a member of high royalty in a neighboring country. He was the second born son of his family, and therefore, expected absolutely nothing of his father's fortune at his death. As was the custom of many second born son's, he left to become a soldier when he turned seventeen. For many years, he trained to become a knight, one of the highest ranks available. The men of the troop he travelled with were heading off to battle- were, Havek did not know at the time, nor could he remember now if he had known in the first place. The leaders expected that after the battle, Havek would be awarded the title of Knight. Nothing went as planned, however. On the way there, Havek shared a tent with a fellow soldier. Or so he thought. The man had been his friend for over a year, and suddenly, he turned into one of his kind, to become his companion in all travels. They became riders, the loners and strangers of every village, town, or countryside. Havek quickly lost his royal appearance, losing all high class ways or wardrobe.

Havek parted ways with his companion some time ago, choosing to wander alone. He heard tale in a pub one night of a village dominated by vampires and slayers. He headed there based on instinct alone and immediately congregated with a clan of vampires he found there.

Soon he was traveling wherever the road deemed appropriate, and only came back to his hometown sparingly. However, it was he who first noticed when Mikhael began to act...strangely. History: As a young boy, Viktor was brought up as a god loving young man. He always attended church even if his parents were unable to go due to his ill father who had been bitten by a strange animal. He would pray and pray to his lord that he would make his father better again. He did this till one night when his father’s symptoms had gotten worse.

It was a full moon that dreadful night. His father was sweating quite heavily. Viktor’s mother had left to fetch a damp cloth as she had already sent her eldest son to fetch the doctor who lived not too far from them. But by the time they were back, it was too late. Viktor’s father already attacked his wife leaving a wound to the chest and had bitten Viktor on the arm. He let go as his elder brother tried to save him and in the process lost his own life.

Tears flowing down the side of his cheeks, Viktor stood clenching his wounded arm and tried to stop his father from doing anymore damage but was pushed aside like a mere rag doll. He watched his father escape their home. Minutes later he could hear the screaming coming from the neighbors then a loud gun shot that ended the nightmare, or so he thought. When he ran outside, all he saw was a circle of people standing over a corpse and he knew that it was his dead father. He hurried to the location and squeezed through the others. He stood on his knees lifting his father’s head. He cried even harder cursing the name of his so called ‘lord’ that had forsaken him, allowing his father to die this way, like an animal.

Knowing there was nothing more he could do, Viktor ran back inside to his mother’s side, he saw the doctor tending to her wound and he said to him that she would be alright but needed her rest. However, he knew it wasn’t going to be the same for his brother. He walked to where his brother laid and took the necklace from his cold body; he swore to always wear it as a sign of gratitude for saving his life.

Viktor went back outside and asked his close neighbors to help take his brother’s lifeless body from his home as it was too painful seeing it lay there. The young boy watched with tear filled as they took him away outside next to his father. Any other memory from that night, his mind pushed aside. And from that bite, it unwound a new path for him.

History: Born into a rather large peasant family, Anezka never truly knew the meaning of being selfish. As a child, she was generous and was casually interested in the supernatural forces of the world. Anezka respected these unnatural predators and believed that vampyre and human could coexist under peaceful terms. However, when one of her brothers was killed suspiciously on her fifteenth birthday, the girl witnessed the unfortunate bloodlust of these beings. She became hateful and intolerant of the creatures. This sparked an oath of revenge and so began Anezka's part in the war against the vampyres. However, after a certain amount of years of training, Anezka finally came to terms with her brother's death and recognized that vampyres kill for survival, just like the humans they used to be. Presently, she understands that humans are no longer at the top of the food chain. However, Anezka still hunts in order to protect mortals, fighting in order to place humanity on the back on the pedestal of life.

History: A very long time ago, Lucia lived in a small town on the outskirts of the city. When she was fifteen, her mother died from an unknown disease that had struck the small town. People were found dead from this disease by the households. The disease seemed to drain the person completely of all their blood. Her father, her sister, her brother, and herself then lived by themselves, Lucia having to work in a flower shop to help keep the money circulating in their home. Lucia eventually found a man that she loved and the two became engaged. However, one day, he mysteriously disappeared and she never saw him again.

One night, a stranger came to their door, asking for a place to stay for the night. Lucia and her father agreed that he could stay, but only for the night. The stranger ended up killing her father, draining him of all his blood. He did the same to her two younger siblings. The vampire was intrigued by Lucia and ended up turning her into a vampire. Lucia loathed him for quite some time. After several years, Lucia ended up forgiving the vampire of what he had done, really having no other choice. He was the only one to teach her and take care of her. He was the only one who could give her a place to stay for the time being.

Only some fourty years of being her master, the vampire abandoned her. From that point, Lucia never saw or heard of him again. Lucia doesn't know where he went or if he'll ever return. Though him abandoning her did leave her with several issues. She never likes to be alone, though she is nearly all the time. Whenever Lucia becomes close with someone, she doesn't like them to leave and is always worried that they will.

History:Viorel was once a loyalist of the vampire clan, doing all bidding that his lord and lady asked of him, he was like this for many years until greed and selfish impulse took him over, he was driven crazy by his hunger for power and betrayed the clan, causing several deaths to members. He was found out and exiled, also branded as such.

He was filled with scorn and hatred of fellow members of the race, angered that he was no longer considered a member of the race. In this phase he became a slayer, cleverly disguising himself from the vampires; he also needed to disguise himself from the slayers to ensure that he wasn't found out and killed.

Viorel does alot of sneaking around, meals are hard to get but he still manages to keep his strength up. He only has one thing on his mind...killing any vampires he comes across and in turn, killing the slayers.
