A page from the diary of Sunny

I stood at the end of the driveway. It was crazy, really, how much I'd looked forward to this moment: ever since I found out that some far-off relative had died and left me their private island, along with a hefty portion of a bank account. Private island: just saying it makes me feel rich and famous. Well, it wasn't totally private; there was a small town on the opposite side of the modestly sized island. Standing here, staring at the gorgeous and proud mansion, I started to wonder. Was I dreaming? Was I going to wake up, disappointed at this magnificent dream I'd concocted?

I took a deep breath and moved towards the door. It'd been empty about a month, and the dirt and dust would no doubt need tackling. The estate wasn't small: it was at least seventy-five bedrooms (or so I was told,) and with a little elbow grease and some tenacity, it'd be restored to its formal glory in no time. Well, I kept telling myself that. It was the only way that I could put my nose to the grindstone and get the work done. I had the money, I had the time, and I had the desire. I had nothing to lose and everything to gain.

My first night here, in this empty mansion, was creepy, rest assured. I spent a good three hours finding the electricity breaker. Nearly every light worked; only a few had to be replaced. Once the lights were on, I putted around with some random cleaning chores; it was getting late and I wanted to get an early start the next morning. Oftentimes I'd find myself staring at the outbuildings. An eerie light glimmered up at me from them. They were a good half-mile away, and I was a bit excited to see what might be in there. I decided then that the outbuildings would be my reward for cleaning the estate; saving the best for last, I took a quick shower and headed off to bed.

Dragging myself out of bed the next morning, I wandered to the large kitchen that I'd polished up the previous night and prepared a light breakfast. As I sipped the last of my juice, I looked out the large windows that bracketed the breakfast nook and let my mind and gaze wander. The outbuildings ranged in size, the largest the size of a barn, the smallest the size of a garden shed. I chuckled to myself, rinsed out my glass, and went to get dressed. I knew that all the linens would need cleaning, as would the drapery and rugs, but for some reason I had this desire to see what was going on in the mysterious outbuildings. Double checking that I had my cell phone and keys, I locked up and headed off into the woods.

It was the oddest thing I noticed as I wandered through the landscape: there didn't seem to be any birds chirping, no rustling of branches, no nothing. No wildlife, nada. It was a little disconcerting, but I just shrugged it off as my mind working a little too hard and kept walking. It wasn't long before I discovered the first building. It was one of the smaller ones, and I peered inside. It was filled with garden tools. I snorted and wandered off to the next one. It was larger, wooden, and with huge doors. I swung one of them open, my eyes bugging out of my head, I'm sure. There was a rather large truck within. I'm sure it was used for hauling large ..things, but what, I didn't know. It was the weirdest thing. I continued on with a furrowed brow, hoping the next few sheds would reveal something more interesting.

I would be disappointed as I reached the last shed. Up until now I'd found nothing worth getting excited over. This last shed would be my last hope for excitement. It was the largest shed of them all, built like a ranch-style house. Reaching for the knob of the door, I gave it a quick turn. Locked. Odd. I slipped my key inside the lock and twisted as it unlocked promptly. It seemed to swing inwards of its own accord, nearly inviting me to enter. It was eerily lit within, and warm. Oddly enough, those were the first two things I noticed before I stepped foot inside the shed.

I hesitated as I moved past the threshold, allowing my eyes to grow accustomed to the dim lighting. It was almost tropical inside the large building: humid and almost damp. As my vision sharpened, I blinked rapidly, astonished at what was going on in the room.

Test tubes. Hundreds of them. I wandered closer, awestruck. Each test tube was kept in a warm incubator of sorts. And within each test tube were small.. fetuses??!! My mind kept tripping over itself as I tried to understand what was happening. I made my way over to a desk that sat near the far wall, falling back into the seat with a thud. What in the Hell was going on here?

I turned to the desk with hope, hoping that some divine explanation would bestow knowledge upon me. As I wrifled through the papers, I glimpsed one word over and over again: extinct. It would seem that my distant relative had some sort of obsession with extinct species.

'I have successfully recreated two long-forgotten creatures, but something odd has happened. It might be because they were missing certain aspects of their own DNA, so I spliced it with human DNA. They've taken on human-like characteristics as they've grown older. I am not sure if I should continue my research. The Red Colobus Monkey and the Quagga are now adults; it's odd, they mature much faster than humans do, but once they reach their adult stage, it's as if they suddenly.. stop growing.'

As my brain registered what I'd just read, I inhaled sharply. It was absolutely amazing what was going on. My distant uncle had been attempting to bring back extinct species, and in doing so, he'd created something different. Anthropomorphic creatures. Extinct creatures. It was amazing. Why had he given this fully functional re-creation facility to me? Just knowing that the room I was in contained hundreds of live creatures was simply amazing to me. I felt as if he'd entrusted me with his life's work.

It was at that moment that I knew what I would do. I would raise these creatures and let them use the island as their home. I knew I wouldn't be able to raise them all myself, and that I would need to find qualified guardians to care for them until they were old enough to take care of themselves.

Rule the First: We have a zero tolerance policy on drama, flaming, trolling, etc. Break it once and get put on the greylist. Break it again and you will be blacklisted and unable to post on the thread. If an owner is put on the greylist, it will prolong the growth of their Boundless by no less than a month.

Rule the Second: Do not, under any circumstances, PM Inle-roo or Smerdle. If you have a problem, PM the mule and direct one of us to it.

Rule the Third: If for some reason you decide you no longer want your Boundless you have the option of giving it to someone, asking us to rehome it, or killing it off. Keep in mind that if you do any of these, you will be ineligible to get another Boundless--make sure the one you get is the one you really want.

Rule the Fourth: RP is MANDATORY, whether it's in-thread or journal rp, at least once a month. If a month passes without RP or an indication that you're going on hiatus, you will be warned. If two weeks pass after the warning and there is still no activity from you, your Boundless will be rehomed and you will be ineligible to recieve another.

Rule the Fifth: Brackets (such as (()), [[]], etc.) are not required unless an RP is in session. We ask that you refrain from using chatspeak.

Rule the Sixth: Yes, Smerdle's art is pretty. No, you can't steal it. Art theft will result in immediate blacklisting and a report to a mod.

Rule the Seventh: If you manage to get yourself blacklisted, you will not get a refund. If you break the rules it's on YOUR head, not ours. Consider this fair warning.

Flatsale/Auction Rules

1.
Again, no drama. This extends to things like discouraging people from entering/bidding, complaining about insufficient funds, and saying things like "Omg I'm not gonna win my entry's so HORRIBLE omgoslajhlsjdh."

2. Payment must be recieved in 24 hours. If it is not, a new winner will be chosen/the next highest bid will win.

3. You can pay with anything except commons, uncommons (except headbands), '05 event items, and '04 event items excluding anything from Halloween. Sealeds will be valued at 5k, everything else at mid-LD.

4. In an auction, you may co-bid with as many people as you want and co-own with one other person. In a flatsale, you can only enter and win for yourself.

5. Bids/entries may not be PMed to the mule, Smerdle, or Inle-roo.

6. One of us will be around to open a flatsale/auction. Even if we are not around to close it, it will still end at the date and time specified. An anti-snipe will be set in place at the time of the auction.

FAQ

Extinct animals? Cool! I want a DINOSAUR! 8B
You're a little out of luck there, then. Dinosaurs are only available through full custom auctions and uber-bribes.

I want a SABRETOOTH TIGER OMG!
To prevent everyone from being overrun by 50 of the same species, only one of each gender will be available.

Aw, someone's gotten the species/gender I want! sad
The only way a third of any species can be obtained is through a full custom auction or an uber-bribe.

Extinct animals? How extinct are we talking?
Not endangered, not pending, extinct. In addition, it is most likely that we will only be ressurecting animals from as far back as the Mesozoic era--hey, extracting DNA is hard work, and we can only do so much! If you're looking for creatures farther back than that (with a bit of a twist), we recommend visiting Pikaia's Children.

Entice me with majikul powerz OooOooOOO!
Nope, sorry. The Boundless are resurrected animals and as such are limited to what their specific species could do. For example, a mammalian Boundless might have enhanced senses, a reptilian Boundless would be cold-blooded, and an avian Boundless would have feathers and hollow bones.

The Boundless Estate is on an island. Will my Boundless and I have to stay there?
Not neccessarily. Every child, upon their emergence from their test tube, will be given a room at the Estate that is theirs to do with as they wish. Some guardians may choose to take their child home to the mainland immediately while others may want to stay awhile. However, the child should be given the choice once they are at a suitable age--there are things they may miss out on if they live solely on the mainland. Although there is talk of establishing a mainland-based Center... ninja

Well, you've sold me! How do I get one?
Through a flatsale, auction, raffle or contest, or with a pet trade, bribe, or the purchase of a semi-custom slot. See the Availability post for more details.

Why?
Why not?

The Boundless are five-stage, unique lineart pets. They are RP-required, to a degree--there will be a minimum amount of activity required to grow from stage to stage, and any activity above and beyond that, including thread activity, can get you extras such as growth priority and special customizations. Once you have fulfilled the requirements, shoot us a PM; we will look over your journal and send you a growth form. A quest may or may not be assigned depending on how well you've developed your character. If we feel you need a quest, it will be posted in your journal AND sent along with your growth form. Onward!

The first stage is the bottle stage, in which you, the new guardian, become the owner of your very own fetus-in-a-bottle! Your fetus, of course, can't walk or talk--although it may occasionally twitch--and you should be very careful not to drop it, or freeze it, or stick it in the microwave, or give it to very small children to play with. The requirements for this stage are simple, and as follows: Journal setup, intro RP in which you ICly receive your fetus-in-a-bottle (unless you can come up with a post in which you somehow find it and all of the information pertaining to the Boundless--talk to us first), and a narrative or diary-style post describing your reaction to being the proud new parent of a fetus. Note that there is no minimum time requirement attached to this--growth will occur when Smerdle has finished the toddler artwork and you have finished these few requirements.

The next stage in a Boundless' life is the toddler stage. This occurs when the fetus absorbs the chemical cocktail it is immersed in and becomes too big for its bottle to contain it--hope you've got a broom handy to sweep up all that glass! Boundless toddlers tend to be at their most feral here; that is, it is more likely that they will resemble their animal in mannerisms and temperment than they would a normal human toddler. Toddlers, depending on their species, may be bound by certain limitations: avian- or insect-types with back-wings, for example, will not yet be able to fly, and a predator may very well see other children as prey. It is up to you, the guardian, to teach them all about their shiny new lives. The requirements for this stage are somewhat more complex and are as follows: 1-2 months depending on activity and character development, 5 dear-diary or narrative posts, 1 closed (private) RP, and 1 open RP. RPS WITH OTHER BOUNDLESS ARE VERY MUCH PREFERRED. PLEASE note: as these are toddlers, and feral ones at that, they may be able to walk and talk a little, but they're hardly going to be marathon runners or rocket scientists. They are TODDLERS; play them as such. heart

After a certain span of time has passed, your toddler may become rather moody or irritable or complain, in their way, of achiness. It's nothing to worry about, really, it just means that they're about to grow into a child! Here your Boundless will be capable of holding actual conversations and running around and scraping their knees and generally all of the things children do. It is not unlikely that they will retain some of their past stage's feral qualities--indeed, a Boundless will have most of the instincts their original animal did all throughout its life--but it should, by now, be tempered with more human tendencies. Those with the ability to fly may now be able to, albeit for short periods of time. The requirements for this stage are as follows: 3-4 months depending on activity and character development, 8 dear-diary or narrative style posts, and 5 RPs of any kind. RPS WITH OTHER BOUNDLESS ARE VERY MUCH PREFERRED.

More to follow once we get some kids beyond this stage! heart

There are two main locales for Boundless RP: the Boundless Estate, which is where the Boundless originate from, and the Boundless Center, which can be found on the mainland. The Estate was originally the only place to recieve a Boundless, but Sunny decided that it would be easier on the younger children if there was somewhere closer they could congregate--not only would it eliminate the need for sea-travel, it would be easier for the children to all meet up.

The Kilinge Island Chain set a few miles from the coast of Gambino:

((We need a map. If you'd be interested in making us one (for fun and/or profit) PM the mule.))

#1 ~ Kuu Kisiwa

Kuu Kisiwa: A lush island with tropical attributes. The largest island of the Kilinge Island chain. This is where you will come to receive your Boundless, and where they will remain until they are old enough for quests.

A - Hurul-ayni Estate: The estate where all Boundless are created. Sunny lives here in the large main house; the Boundless are always welcome here. It is a large building, Victorian in design, with an alleged 75 rooms. Tons of space for the explorative young Boundless. It is a four day walk to the Town of Adhimu.

B - Town of Adhimu: A bustling town filled with native people. There is a marina, saloon, inn, blacksmith and a goods store. Nearly all of the indigenous people are kind, with the exception of Devlin, who lives on the easternmost outskirts of town. The residents of Adhimu specialize in growing fruits and a few vegetables.

C - Shumbi Lagoon: It is rumored that Malkia Maha lives near this crystal-clear lagoon. This deep lagoon empties into the ocean surrounding the islands. Perfect for swimming and exploring under-water caves.

#2 ~ Nyafamu Island

Nyamafu Island: A small island to the East of Kuu Kisiwa. Very plain in appearance, yet lushly forested and quiet. Very peaceful.

A - Town of Kiwa: A peaceful people who want nothing more to live their daily lives. They specialize in beadwork and pottery.

#3 ~ Dubwana Island

Dubwana Island: A frightening hulk of volcanic isle. Explosive and dangerous, it looms on the horizon visible to all. A thread-like wisp of smoke drifts from it’s summit, proof to the rumbling monstrosity within. There is no greenery or life on this island.

A - Hayawani Peak: The summit of Dubwana. Frothing with a mix of magma and ash that it spews occasionally into the air. At its highest point, it reaches well over 26,000 feet.

#4 ~ Majifukiza Island

Majifukiza Island: A gorgeous island forested with evergreens. Set in the midst of this lovely island is a small lake which provides a bounty of fish to the Shwari, the town nearby.

A - Town of Shwari: A fishing town, the residents of Shwari use both the ocean and Lake Buluu to supply them with a seemingly neverending supply of fish, which they market with nearby islands for other goods. A days walk to Lake Buluu.

B - Lake Buluu: A deep island lake, chock full of fish. Surrounded by lush evergreens.

#5 ~ Barafa Island

Barafa Island: A frozen island of pure solid glacial ice. It is said that this island moves, but there is no proof it does. There is no greenery or life on this island, though it might be perfect for those who prefer icy regions.

A - Wembekali Peak: The summit of Barafa. Smaller than Hayawani Peak, the highest point of this ice mountain is only 14,536 feet.

#6 ~ Jankiwiti Island

Jankiwiti Island: A small plain island. No inhabitants. Rainforest setting, lush and gorgeous. No known indigenous people reside on this island.

A - Mafuu Beach: This is no ordinary beach, for the sand is created of tiny gold nuggets. The people of Kiwa will often travel here to gather supplies for their beadwork.

#7 ~ Karuacha Island

Karuacha Island: A desert island, oddly enough encased in thick greenery.

A - Town of Changua: These people provide the islands with a constant supply of grains and wheat, which seem to do well in the sandy soil. They are a staid people though non-hostile, and they prefer merely doing business and leaving.

#8 ~ Jabali Island

Jabali Island: The oddest sight in the Kilinge seascape. It seems to be a mere hulking mountain of mud or earth. No greenery is here, and there is no indigenous people known to reside here.

A - Utope Plains: The only flat area on the island. The Mud Plains, loosely translated. Those who travel through it are in danger of being sucked into the vast muddy plain.

B - Mtutumo Peak: The highest point on Jabali. It reaches a mere 5, 947 feet.

These are the NPCs your Boundless might come into contact with. Some of these characters are PURELY NPCs, others will interact with your Boundless through their diaries, giving them quests and checking up on them occasionally. Some NPCs will be nice, others evil. Inle-roo or Smerdle will RP most of the indicated NPCs.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Sunny:
The proprietor of the island chain where The Boundless live. She's a bookish sort, rather short and slender. Very proper: her hair is always in a securely tight bun; small wire-rimmed glasses rest on the bridge of her nose; her clothing is impeccably neat and clean. She's gentle, kind, and only wants what is best for The Boundless that she looks over. Lately she has been out in the field collecting fossils from which to extract DNA. The Boundless Estate is her home, however, and you may occasionally come across her.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Malkia Maha:
Her name means Queen Beautiful Eyes, as her brilliant pupil less eyes are the first thing noticed about her physically. She lives secluded in the forest of the main island in a small hut, brewing up concoctions and potions with her voodoo-like magic. She will be the most active of the NPCs, giving your Boundless their quests, encouraging them, tossing them hints. Malkia Maha may occasionally in your journal.

(Image Pending)
Devlin:
Devlin hates the Boundless, thinking them freaks of the worst kind. He's got a pack of vicious dogs and a sore spot where the Boundless are concerned. He's got a mandate, intending to fully wipe out all of the creatures from the isolated island chain, never resting until none are left. Devlin will not post in your Boundless diary, but he is available for interaction. You cannot kill Devlin, but with express permission from Inle-roo or Smerdle, you can wound him. Occasionally your Boundless may have a run-in with him or one of his dogs.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Niveus
Niveus is a white lion generally found on the main island. He is not like any other lion as he can telepathically communicate with others. He's a quiet soul, and remains secluded unless he wants to be seen. Keep a sharp eye out for him, as he may have bits of wisdom to impart to you.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Q
Q, a Quagga, is one of the first Boundless. He's fun-loving and happy, always ready with a joke or a smile. He's in charge of the Boundless Center, which resides on the mainland, although he will sometime pop up at the Estate. Q is also in charge of delivering the letters of invitation to potential guardians. If invited to the Center he will be the first person you meet, and he will also give you your Boundless. He may also occasionally post in your journal.

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.
Ruby
Ruby was the first Boundless, and she is a red Colubus monkey. She's a motherly sort, and loves all of the Boundless children. As she's spent her entire life on the island, she doesn't know much about the outside world--though things visitors might say or do will pique her curiosity, she will often be too shy to ask about it. That doesn't mean she's a pushover, however; she's fiercely protective of the children. She's in charge of things at the Estate when Sunny's not there, and will often send Q to deliver letters to potential guardians. If you are invited to the Estate, Ruby will be the first person you meet and she will also give you your Boundless. She may occasionally post in your journal.

The Native Animals of the Kilinge Island Chain

These are random animals that you will come in contact with, both in quests or if you'd like something to interact with in your journal entry. These can be played by anyone.

Scoryx
The scoryx is a strange creature about the size of an elk. It roams the forests and plains in small family groups. It is a gentle creature but can be deadly if provoked. The spikes on its tail are covered in a mild venom that burns and stings but is not fatal. It can swing its tail with enough force to crush bones. The scoryx is an omnivore, but eats mostly plants. It can be found on nearly every island in the chain -- wherever there is enough plant life to support it.

Usgowa
About the size of a bulldog, the usgowa is a stocky scavenger/predator that roams the shoreline. It can swim in shallow water and is extremely strong, powerful shoulder muscles and bone-crushing jaws allowing it to drag its meals back to its den. The usgowa likes nothing better than a good shipwreck -- a drowned sailor is a feast to an usgowa. It is a very dangerous and incredibly ferocious animal, and extreme caution should be used in approaching it.

Pokap
The Pokap is a slow herbivore that roams in small family packs. It eats roots and plants. The Pokap is the size of a small cat with big claws that it uses for digging up roots and the hidden food stores of other animals. The Pokap poses no threat.

Flatsales:

Flatsales will be 15k and always prompt-based. More often than not they will be prechosen animals, but occasionally we might hold a semi-custom flat. Flatsales will take place over the course of a weekend.

Next flatsale: None planned!

Auctions:

There are three kinds of auctions: a special auction, in which we will auction off a premade Boundless that is special in some way (such as a dinosaur); a semi-custom auction, where the winner will get to choose any animal BUT a dinosaur as long as the species/gender is free; and a full-custom auction which, along with the special auction, is the only way to get a dinosaur Boundless. Full custom auctions are also the only way to get a non-rp Boundless or a Boundless of an already-taken species and/or gender. Special auctions start at 15k, semi-custom auctions start at 20k, and full custom auctions start at 25k.

Next auction: none scheduled

Raffles:

Raffles will be exceedingly rare and will usually only occur when we're feeling too lazy to hold an event just to rehome a child. Tickets will be 500g and you can buy an unlimited amount of them. Ticket sales will last anywhere from two days to two weeks.

Next raffle: none scheduled

Contests:

If a child is abandoned, it will be rehomed. A contest will be held to determine the Boundless' new guardian providing we are up to holding one. Contests will vary from writing to poetry to art, and the entry fee is 1k. You can only enter once per contest.

Next contest: none scheduled

Customs:

Customs can be obtained through bribe, pet trade, or the purchase of a semi-custom slot. Only an uber-bribe can get you a full custom outside of a custom auction. Everything else is eligible for a semi-custom. If you wish to offer one of us a set-lineart pet you must offer two: one for each of us. Bribe and pet trade info can be found in the second to last post. Semi-custom slots will cost 500k.
