I've only actually listened to a few of her songs but she is so amazing. ^^

Bad things? Like what? Gender issues? Politics? Ethics?

You think so? I know she sings about controversial things, but I didn't think she'd really sparked much new controversy.

Wow. I hadn't realized that when I first listened to "Buzzer" and I went back to listen more closely. That's intense. An attention-getter, for sure. I'd failed a test... I was the cause of war. I pushed the Buzzer. In fact, it sort of builds on the "no one's innocent" quote. That's great that you're using it for your project, and your teacher sounds great! Yay for Dar converts.

I brought "When I was a Boy" into class once, when we were doing a unit on Womens' Issues in Lit. It sparked this big discussion about gender issues, and how people in the class changed growing up, and about our younger brothers and sisters.

Those are two of my favorites, too! "You say is it how she moves, or how she looks? I say it's loneliness, suspended to our own like grappling hooks. And as long as she's got noise, she's fine. But I could teach her how I learned to dance when the music's ended." I'm also really fond of "The Ocean" from that album, "When I was a Boy" from Honesty Room (the first song of Dar's I ever heard), and "Beautiful Enemy" and "Empire" from My Better Self.

"Buzzer" was on her Myspace. It sounded really good. I'm going to have to see if I can find the lyrics.

No... In fact, I didn't realize she'd come out with one recently. Thanks for mentioning it - now I know to grab it next time I go music shopping.

Dar's one of my all-time favorites - I've been listening to my parents' copy of "Honesty Room" since I was twelve or something. And I love how so many of her songs are so sing-able. But then I guess that's not too unusual for folk artists. Probably why I love the genre so much. I've got "Mortal City," "The Beauty of the Rain," and "My Better Self."

for 11 years... I mainly show hunter's but I do jumpers occasionally (I have trouble remembering complex courses) and right now I'm working with a 17.2 hh thoroughbred for jumpers.

I do dressage occasionally, and I've shown through level 2.
