Prologe

In the dark shadowy forest Stripetail could still make out the clearing ahead. She kept her pace slow , since so many deadleaves were on the ground,
she could easily step on one giving her away to a RiverClan patrol. It was Moonhigh and she expected they might be around patroling there borders.
Ever Since WindClan attacked their have been more patrols and scent markers remarked nearly three times a day. She knew only because she was a
Medicine cat and the Riverclans Medicine cat Rosewater ,a tall she cat whose
body had pinkish spots,was free to say what warriors should not. Her apprentice Sagepaw was collecting catmint just in case a outbreak of greencough broke out, ever since her mother died , Swanpool she was frantic of always having a good stock of catmint in Leafbare. She told Sagepaw she was heading to find some juniper berries so Sagepaw would not follow her.
though nobody her dark secret shes kept for some moons Storm Star is her father.
When Swanpool was near death she told her she needed to tell Stormwhisker later Stormstar that shes was dying when Stripetail asked why she revealed it was her father nobody knew except her that she is half Riverclan and Shadowclan she couldnt reveal to much that she knew but she should at least ask some questions.At the last Gathering He annouced his mate Willowfur
was having his kits her body was itching with anger she unsheathed and sheathed her claws how could her father do this? Swanpool was his mate not Willowfur . Stripetail was brokenhearted now she was going to have halfbrothers or sisters she had to tell StormStar she knew.As she looked down into the River, Silverpelt gleamed brightly up above.She sniffed the air she smelled a Riverclan patrol heading towards her direction quick to think she dashed in to a bramble thicket.She heard muffled voices talking in a low whisper one cat
said,"It's so cold Rainwhisker can we go please?" a birsk firm voice repiled
"No,Streampaw I know it's cold but we need to patrol the borders we'll be back at camp soon.", Soon the voices died away and Stripetail carefully crawled out she then raced on the open moor beside the lake she would be at the camp at any moment.In a couple of heartbeats a low hiss sounded behind
her a mouselength away ,"What do you think your doing in Riverclan territory?"
She whisked around to find a broad tom with a darkbrown pelt and cold amber eyes, she then realized it was the deputy of Riverclan ,Rippletooth ."Well?" he hissed, Rippletooth unsheathed his claws and sniffed the
air."Your Shadowclan" he growled , He stalked around Stripetail then he spat," Of course the last thing we need is a ShadowClan raid." Stripetail wasnt going to get frisky with this tom and do something wrong she calmly remarked,"I have no wish to raid your camp,I am Stripetail Medicine Cat of ShadowClan and I wish to speak with StormStar." The tom didnt seem convinced and he growled,"Of course your going to speak with StormStar im taking you to him as a prisoner." Stripetail stood dumbfounded and snapped, "You can't do that I'm a medicine cat!"
"But you tresspassed on our land".The tom made sense but she had a right to go to a Clan to visit other medicine cats.The tom started walking towards the camp "come with me or I'll force you with my teeth and claws" Stripetail followed but now she knew she was in a heap of trouble and nobody could back her up this time.


Chapter 1:RiverClan in need

Stripetail woke up, the sunlight was blazing into her den,she yawned and stretched. By the looks of the sky it was sunhigh the scent of strong herbs located at the other side of the wall made her fur tingle. Sagepaw stirred but did not awake she stood on her paws and padded towards the herbs the stock was freshly supplied but she noticed she might need more moss.She then walked back to Sagepaw and nudged him with her front paw."Wake up Sagepaw it's Sunhigh",The apprentice did not stirr at first but then Sagepaw heaved himself up and mumbled
"may I go with the hunting patrols?".Ever since Sagepaw was injured on his right eye he was proclaimed to become a Medicine cat when he couldnt see very well anyways.Stripetail sighed and said,"When your out there collect some moss when got some freshkill".Sagepaw nodded and walked out of the cool grassy cave outside it was leafbare but the tempature felt the same as it did in Leaf-fall. The ambitous appertince was always wanting to join hunting patrols or border patrols,it made her heart swell with grief Sagepaws sister was killed whileThunderClan attacked
Because a ShadowClan warrior Duskbreeze accidently caught the vole she was chasing on ThunderClans land.Their leader ConeStar was considerate but the deupty Fallingleaf was not as understanding. Sagepaw flustering with anger trired to kill Fallingleaf but the huge tom was stronger than the small appertince so Fallingleaf slashed him on his right eye but Sagepaw sprang towards the muscular tom and clawed his throat.Fallingleaf did not die but he was replaced with Autumnwhisker a strong she-cat who has tortoiseshell fur.As Sagepaw bounded away Dawnfur a cream-colored
queen walked towards Stripetail the queen gave a curt nod and sat down.She looked exhausted and Stripetail queried,"Is something wrong Dawnfur?", the queen sighed and said,"It's nothing Stripetail but I think Im already near the time to have my kits".Stripetail looked in her den ,"If you want I can stay in the nursery with you" , the queen gave a gracious nod and padded towards the nursery. Stripetail when into the den and collected some poppyseeds ,borage leaves,coltsfoot,and fever few she then wrapped the supplies in a leaf and padded towards the nursey.But suddenly
she heard a ear-splinting yowling coming from outside she dropped the pouch and ran outside, their outside the the entrance to Shadowclan came Riverclan warriors running towards them with a fear scent on them all.Immediatly warriors came out and with hackles raised and charged towards the Riverclan intruders.Stripetail spotted Stormstar leader of Riverclan yowl for the Shadowclan warriors to halt, Stripetail padded closer towards the Riverclan cats they all had a ill stench on them. Stripetail calmly padded in front of the leader.
"Your sick are you not Stormstar?", the leader looked tired his fur was unkept and his eyes drooping, he nodded and repiled feebly "Are kits caught something while accidently venturing off, now were all suffering and one elder has already died." "When did the kits venture off and where did they go?" Stripetail could tell that nearly all the Riverlcan had caught the sickness."Almost three sunrises ago, we didnt notice until the kits started coughing, are medicine cat Rosewater thought it was outbreak of greencough ,but Leafbare just started but the kits say they didnt remember where they
went so we don't know." "Then why are you here?" growled Talonclaw a dark tabby warrior. "We ask your medicine cat to please come with us Rosewater can not do this alone and we can not we risk more lives dying by this outbreak. "You know you smell alot like carrionplace" rasped and elder named Ravenfur."You think thier's a carrionplace here"?
Streakfur questioned.Stripetail never knew what Carrionplace looked like she wasnt born when the clans had to move here. "Stripetail will you help us?", the Riverclan leader had a pleading look in his eyes and stripetail had to help him. Stripetail nodded and she spotted Sagepaw racing towards her,"Whats going on?" I cant explain
right now but go to the nursey and help Dawnfur she might go through her kitting soon." Sagepaw looked confused but raced towards the nursery. "Your really going to help those furballs?" hissed Shadowtail, he lashed his tail but she kept walking towards her den. She quickly grabbed as much herbs she could carry and streaked to the Riverclan cats but she heard a yowl and heard Shadowclan leader Shadestar a a black she-cat
said , "Stripetail please be careful and do not catch this sickness, the last thing we need is sickness." Stripetail sadly remembered the last outbreak of greencough killed one of her kits Spotkit, she gave a quick nod and dashed towards Riverclan. Stormstar looked warmly into her eyes, "Riverclan is forever in your debt thank you Stripetail". She nodded and sped ahead towards the camp, when they arrived she headed towards
Rosewater who was helping a tom with a shining pelt with amber eyes. I padded towards Rosewater she looked and said , "Thank Starclan somebody came to help." She pushed a bundle of herbs towards the tom , "Make sure everybody eats each of those leaves I gaven you Sparrowpelt." The tom nodded and headed towards some elders, Stripetail I need someone to get wet moss. Stripetail nodded, since rosewater didnt have an
apperentince it must be harder to care for all cats. She grabbed a bundle of wet soaked moss and handed them all to the queens,elders,kits,warriors, and appertinces. She then gave them poppyseeds to rest and yarrow to vomit out the poision, Stripetail
Rosewater, and the tom Sparrowfur were exhasuted. Sparrowfur padded towards Stripetail making her pelt tingle and he remarked,"Thank you very much, all our cats have been feeling better thanks to you". Stripetail nodded and replied " I must be
heading back towards camp and your very welcome Sparrowfur,tell Rosewater I said thank you", "Oh" he scoffed "no thanks to me?"
"Oh, no I did'nt mean it like that " she mumbled. "Eh, don't worry about it im a warrior not a herb smelling medicine cat" he joked flicking his ears playfully
"If your done Sparrowfur I need you on a border patrol to make sure those Windclan scum havent been on our territory." a huge tom with massive shoulders
was stalking past his words spiteful and rude, "Don't mind him" said Sparrowpelt, "Hes the deputy Rippletooth" ,"I'll escort you home if you want"
Rosewater then walked towards them ,"I'll take her home you should go with Rippletooth before he claws your ears off". Sparrowfur nodded and bounded towards some cats
"So you like Sparrowfur" Rosewater nudged Stripetail, "What!?" Stripetail exclaimed. "Don't play mousebrained ,I saw the way he looked at you."
"But im a medicine cat" , "exaxcatly" she snapped, "so don't be falling head over hindlegs over that tom". Stripetail snorted of course she knew it was against warrior code for medicine cats to fall in love
though she didnt want to admit it she felt different when Sparrowfur was around. Her fur tingled and she felt woozy. Soon they were at Shadow clans Border line,"I want to thank you again for helping us"
"No problem" Stripetail replied. "See you at the next half moon", Stripetail nodded and headed back towards camp.



Chapter 2 : The Medicine cat Code


Sagepaw felt a gentle nudge on his flank he heard his mentor Stripetail say it was Sunhigh, Sagepaw stretched and went out to join the hunting patrols. His fur tingling with excitement now he was finally allowed to join hunting parties, he saw Flowerpaw
talking with another appertince, Heartpaw he padded to join them and mewed hello. Flowerpaw snorted, "arent medicine cats suppose to be in that den playling with their leaves and berries?", Heartpaw laughed and walked passed Sagepaw with a flick of her tail.
Sagepaw was used to getting snide comments, ever since he decided to become a medicine cat because his eye sight was poor because Thunderclan's old deputy slashed it with his razor sharp claws. But he did'nt mind the furball teasing him, instead he padded over
towards Flufpaw, a very fluffy white-cream colored tom . The tom nodded and said ,"You going on a hunting patrol?", Sagepaw nodded but didnt want to say much to Flufpaw, even though he wasnt rude like the other appertinces he just wanted to eat some fresh-kill
and get some moss, to finally get a nap, but tonight was the gathering and he had to be well rested he hoped he would be allowed to go. He trudged out of the entrance and he heard a mew sound behind him he turned to see Rosemarypaw look warmly at him ,"Hey Sagepaw
I can help you collect some moss if you want." , he gave a gracious nod Rosemarypaw was a white she-cat with red-like amber eyes. They went out together and caught some voles and mice along with moss for the elders and the medicine supplies. By then it was
well past sunhigh and Stripetail was hurrying towards the entrance and saw Stripefur streaking across the camp he questioned what the problem but she hissed to him that Dawnfur was near kitting, she then gave birth to a tom and a she-cat named Starlingkit, and Olivekit. Soon he was exhausted and wanted to sleep
for a moon but Shadestar asked for him to go, he relucently nodded but he was so tired. He then heard Stripetail coming in the den with a look of disppointment.


Stripetail padded into the den and heaved a great sigh, being medicine cat was never easy though when the last medicine cat Woodwillow made it look so easy. She looked at Sagepaw he looked so tired, she walked towards him and pressed her flank against his.
"Im very proud of you Sagepaw, if your to tired for the gathering Shadestar will understand.You have worked hard so you deserve to rest". Sagepaw shifted but didnt reply.She walked outside it was near Moonhigh, and cats were heading towards the entrance
Shadestar nodded towards Stripetail and remarked, "I figured Sagepaw wouldnt come he looked exhausted, hes only been an apperntince for two moons but he will become a great Medicine cat I can tell." Stripetail looked at her paws , "Its such a shame hes been
through so much grief , his mother died from accidently fell from a gorge, and his sister was killed". Shadestar nodded and ran towards the gathering place which is on a island with a tree that gives access there.
She sat near one of her close friends in Windclan , Blossomlight the young she-cat nodded and whispered,"I heard Riverclan had an outbreak and you helped" Stripetail flinched Windclan recently had a battle with Riverclan
Would she be angry for helping them? but instead she gave a symphetic look, soon a yowl sounded from the leaders
