I like to be flexible about what I roleplay. Pure romance isn't my thing; but neither is pure adventure or crack. Put them all in, why not! The only compulsory factor: dynamic character relationships and conflict. -- And ooc talk, probably. I don't understand how people can steer their plots smoothly without communication!
I've a handful of pre-made characters. My avi's named after one of them: Vittorio. He's fairly new; some of the other characters have been around for years.
Apart from that, literate roleplay is a must. Advanced/elite roleplay puzzles me a little (some of it seems pure frivolity), but a few paragraphs, at least, is essential -- almost. There are times when even that rule must be broken.
But I've only ever really roleplayed with one person. So, I'm fairly nervous about the whole thing with new people.
