IKR! Dolly was such a queen, such an icon to many and she brought people together. And no item. crying This isn't the first time I was expecting Gaia to do an item for someone or something important and Gaia does bupkis. Disapointment, man. Gaia ain't what it used to be but I guess it's still here so that's somethign. crying
Yeah, things are really going well! (Please no jinx, no whammies - always seems whenever I gush somewhere that things are going well, something terrible happens, heh. Maybe my parents coming to town for my birthday is that terrible thing happening preemptively.) I often talk about the 2016 me, and it was one of the best years of my life. This is feeling very much like a 2016 throwback, but now what I wanted so bad then I have now. (Kids, the farm, a job not in social work, haha.) It's really exciting! And thanks, we truly miss Pumpkin, but we totally see some of her personality in our two new pups.
It's been great catching up with you!
Glad to hear you're well! My parents did foster care when I was growing up, and it was always very rewarding, but it could also be hard on the heart. Glad you're in a peaceful place with your kitties!
Kids are doing well. smile Brie will be 9 in a couple of months and I'm finding it difficult to fathom, and Bug is as sweet and sensitive as ever. Sadly we had to put our dog down. She just began having too many seizures and respiratory distresses. One day we found her in the laundry room completely out of it. She was in something similar to a postictal (post seizure) state and was only breathing one breath every 4-5 minutes. She did eventually come out of it, but we decided to call the vet and they came to the house. It's been rough, because until we had kids we spoiled our dog and she even came to New York with us during the clinical trial. And after we had kids, we still spoiled her like crazy. She was a very loved dog. We've since adopted two new dogs though, a 15ish month dog with a really sad story (left in a dumpster at 8 months with her 9 puppies, 5 already deceased, and one dying soon after arriving at the rescue) and a 3 month old mini goldendoodle/beagle mix. The son went to check in on his dad and found him deceased. They thought the mama goldendoodle was just fat until she started popping out puppies. The family of the deceased couldn't take the dogs, so they went to the rescue. I just feel like our little zoo is getting bigger between all the ducks and chickens hatching, the cow giving birth, and taking on a bunch of neglected horses. (Still waiting on what happens legally there.) Busy busy farm life. Never expected to be a cow matchmaker or a crazy chicken lady, or someone who had two dogs again, but here I am, living the dream.
The older I get, the deeper I sink into a bath of unapologetic realism. I've spent too long being a pushover and letting others cross my boundaries (and also too long around toxic positivity). I've always known life is short and not guaranteed, and because of that, I decided that need to live my best life and enjoy what time I have. It's been mostly great - although it's made some people scatter because apparently I'm mean now by setting boundaries and calling out behaviors. 😂 But I just look at is as the quantity is getting smaller but the quality is much better, which leads into the realness that I want to have!
Yeah, so pleased things are going well. (Except for the present day - we're in the process of making plans because our sweet dog just turned 14. She's starting to have frequent seizures and we think she may have a brain tumor. We'll know more at her vet appointment soon, but my husband and I are devastated, and we've been trying to prepare the kids.) Deer Rose has turned into something I wasn't quite sure would actually happen. As a kid, I tolerated farming for the extra cash, but now as an adult I enjoy it, and it's a lot cheaper than therapy. Ever since I lost my job a little over a year ago, I've tried to drum up all the skills I can. I started taking cooking and baking classes and they've been so fun. It's kind of like a new type of art to learn. Kids are doing great well, and now that things have stabilized with the kiddos and we know we have more time with them, things feel much more manageable. Now if only my health and spousal unit's health would get the message! haha.
How have you been doing?
