Have you ever walked into a group of people and been afraid? Known that each person surrounding you is capable of harming you, both mentally and physically. Either superficially, or to a depth from which you can never fully recover. Maybe humanity at large can be trusted. Maybe they are all just trying to grab what they can, while they can.Have you ever felt loss without depth? That ever extending void whose gravity only increases with time. Found that some pains never completely heal. Forever nursing the wound, for any inattention will only let it fester.
Have you ever met The Enemy? That subtle, sadistic smile. The one that knows it has already won, before a single fist is raised. Stood, full of both fear and surety, then done what you know you must. Suffered the terrible wrath of a person, with the will to do harm and a smile on their face.
Has the burning grip of need not passed you by? Hunger the likes of which most people never know. Standing outside kitchen after hours, hoping there will be something left over. Searching book after book, for that truth you need more than food and air eludes you still.
Have you ever stood before an authority figure, who had both the power and the moral obligation to destroy you, and told them off anyway? Certain that even if the consequences are dire, you cannot back down from that which is right.
