Looking out the window in the rain - musings of a starlight senshi

Everyone needs a quiet place to think and to be yourself. This is mine.

About

Hello. My name is Amaya Kou. It means light of the night rain. I am also known as Parallel Sailor Star Maker but I tend to keep that a secret. It is a pleasure to meet you and I do hope you come back often.

If you really want to read my life story, well you can see it below but it really isn’t all that interesting and has more questions than answers. Well I’m going to go find a quiet place to read some poetry so please enjoy yourselves. May fortune shine upon you. Take care!

Amaya – night rain
Kou: light

Hello. My name is Amaya Kou. I am 20 years old. Where do I live? Well that’s really a tough question. I don’t really feel that anywhere is “home” for me, and yert I suppose “home” is where I am, wherever I go. I am a wanderer and I’ve seen a lot of places. One of my favorite quotes, said by a very wise man, is "Wherever I go, there I am!"

Anyway enough about my rambling. The first thing I can remember was an orphanage on the outskirts of Romania. I grew up there until I was 13. To be honest it was pretty bad. Things were dirty, and we were all sometimes hungry or cold so you had to learn to be tough quickly.I used to raid the nearby farm sometimes for food to give to the younger orphans as I got older. I do feel somewhat badly for doing that but it was a matter of survival and the amount we took was minimal. We all took care of each other in a way but I never really made any solid friendships. I preferred to sit by a tree on a nearby hill and just watch the people below, smell the air, and dream. When I turned 13 I left one night clutching this note tightly and walking off into the world. I was not really missed. There were too many mouths to feed already. Poverty is a very harsh thing.

I did a few odd jobs in town and one of the small shops I worked with gave me a small guitar as payment. At th time I was disappointed but in the evenings when I would be lonely out in the world, I would play it teaching myself little by little and it made me feel warm and safe. It was dirung my first time out alone that I realized there was something special about me. It turns out I was destined to be a sailor senshi. It happened when some sort of creature showed up in the small town center. At first it was a bit strange. I had no ont to discuss it with and was very confused...but I now think it is a clue as to who my mother is.

I made my way to England when I was only 15 and worked in a shop sewing garments. It was hard and laborious work and I thought I would never get anywhere but in the evenings I would sneak into the library down the street to read…and that is when I found poetry. There are poems for everyone, poems of comfort, poems to stir the heart, and poems about sitting alone on a starry night trying to figure out who you are. I fell instantly in love gradually teaching myself English by using Romanian versions and copying back and forth. I do love languages. With music and poetry new doors opened up for me and I began to work singing folksongs of all the countries I passed through, and I also write a few of my own songs. That old man’s guitar was my ticket to freedom.

A few years ago I made my way to Japan. My last name is Japanese so I believe I may be closer to finding out about my parents now. Every night I look at the letter, especially when the stars are out and it is raining softly. I picture the raindrops as notes in a song played to the stars. a bit old and tattered now, it comes with me always.

I will share with you the little I know. I have had this note since I was born. Though

Your name is Amaya Kou. It means light of the night rain and we named you after the silvery glow of rain at night as it falls. There is not much else I can tell you because I want you to live your own life but please know that we love you…and if you look up into the stars at night, they are our tears because we must be apart. And if you listen to the rain, it is our lullaby to you so that you may sleep safely and soundly. Please accept this chance that we have given you and live your life safely to the fullest. Perhaps someday we can finally be reunited.

This was the note that was attached to my wrist by a string so they tell me at the orphanage. I can’t tell you how many times I have read and re-read it and still I am as clueless as when I first began. I can sense that I was loved, and that they believed they were protecting me from something but I sincerely wish they had told me more…given me the choice to come and find them and accept whatever danger or suffering they were going through. That is why I am searching for them, to learn who they are and where I belong. To my parents I say: I will stand alone and make you proud. Some day we WILL be together.

Favorite Place: sitting by the water reading
Favorite Song: Dust in the Wind
