Day into night, and night to day:
As twilight fades, the sun gives way
To moonlit grace, so still, so deep,
Adorned by starry gown asweep.
She rules across the midnight hour,
And watches from her sleepy bower,
Until the touch of dawn at play
Comes soft, to banish her away.
Night into day, and day to night:
The dawning breaks. Darkness takes flight
Before the swiftly rising wing:
The brightness of a glorious king.
Across the endless, arching sky,
He rides, he strides . . . only to die
Once more as dusk reveals its face
And snuffs sun's light without a trace.
Day into night, and night to day,
They pass but never reach. They stay
Within their worlds, two lights apart . . .
Yet there's a stirring in each heart
To meet, to know the other's soul—
To make, at last, a brighter whole.
But day and night, each rules alone,
Sovereign of one divergent throne.
And only twice they make one light:
Night into day, and day to night.
